Aug 24, 2010I forced 2.2 onto my droid. Now I'm reading all this talk about OTA's and random updates. How do i get the official OTA? Do I need to revert to 2.1?

Aug 20, 2010Go into recovery (like you did to apply the update.zip). Wipe your cache. Perform a factory reset/date wipe or whatever it's called from within recovery. You _should_ (again I take no responsibility here) boot into 2.1 where you can root and then apply 2.2 update again. Good luck, and let us know if it does/doesn't work.
To revert to 2.1:
1: Flash sbf. After this, you will bootloop.
2: Get into recovery like you did when you updated to 2.2.
3: Wipe cache.
4. Factory reset.
When you reboot you should be at stock 2.1. This would be useful if you needed to return the phone for warranty services, or if you need to reinstall 2.2 for some reason (like to gain root).

Nov 15, 2010I know I procrastinated, but I installed the leaked 2.2 months back, and never reverted back to stock, to get the OTA 2.2 Verizon sent out. Is it too late? If I revert back to stock, will I still be able to download the official OTA 2.2? Is there any difference over the one I have?

Sep 12, 2010For the Droid X i want to try to use the froyo update that was leaked before however, I am worried about as to whether or not I can flash back to the stock OS. I see how to do it for other phones and know how to do it for the original droid with much help however, I do not want to do the update until I know there is a way to revert back to 2.1 Also I am using the leaked NON ROOTED 2.2 update if I get an answer on here. I do not like to root only because I am a noob.

Aug 11, 2010This is what I'm dealing with. I Used astro to get my droid into the 2.2 FRG01B but I'm NOT rooted from stocked 2.1 just like in the Guide but i didn't Backup any files or i don't have SPRecovery, or anything like that. My recover screen reads as follow;
1:Reboot
2:apply update.zip (which is what i did the first time to get to 2.2)
3:wipe date/Factory reset
4:Wipe Cache partition
5:wipe baseband data
As you can see i don't have install or anything of that nature. Now my question is, is there a way to get me back to 2.1 Stocked like when i got it or am i pretty much screwed with what i've done? If i haven't totally messed up can somebody provide a step by step so i don't mess anything up further.

Aug 22, 2010I have a quick question. My Droid screen is nonresponsive on the right side and also it will not allow me to slide it open to receive a call. According to several posts on this forum, the phone will most likely need to be replaced. My question is, since it is rooted, do I need to revert it back to stock before taking it to the Verizon store or will they know anyway? I do not want to waste my time reverting it back if they are going to know anyway that it is rooted. I know the warranty is voided since it is a rooted phone. I downloaded bootstrap and the first thing i did was create a nandroid back up for my x. then i proceeded to try and install tranquility rom. it got stuck in a bootloop. so when i rebooted into recovery it now goes for some reason to the droid stock recovery and i can't revert back to my back up. what do i do?!

It supposedly finishes and after it reboots I get stuck @ the Motorola "M" screen indefinitely. After that it wouldn't start up @ all and wouldn't respond to anything. Sep 7, 2010I couldn't find the answer to my question even though this thread seems to dance around it.
There is pretty much only ONE reason i want root on my droid x: to rename all VZW bloatware. That's it. I don't want to overclock. I don't want to get rid of blur. I don't want to custom theme or anything. All i want is to rename the bloatware apk's to bak's.
So my question is, if i root my original 2.1 droid x and change the bloatware app names, when the OTA is getting pushed, will i receive it and be able to upgrade just fine? I realize that if i get the official 2.2 it should break my root and i'm ok with that because right now for me official 2.2 > official 2.1 with bloatware renamed. Mainly since i am confident 2.2 will be rooted soon after it comes out.
Lastly, is the universal and root still the simplest way to root droid x 2.1?

How to Root DROID X Running Official Android 2.2 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog and well when I hook up my phone to my computer its telling me that it can install the driver. (Its never done this before when I had 2.1) the SDK program wont even do screen shots for me so thats the main reason I am trying to root. I know thats a dumb reason but still. I know this isn't much info but its all I got for you. I did run the root program and it said my phone is now rooted and no errors occurred. I know its not rooted cause the screen shot applications are not working on my phone.

Jan 29, 2010One thing some of you over-clockers may not be aware of is, the over-clocked kernel that you flashed to your DROID is based off of the 2.0 kernel. Some folks are reporting issues again that were present before the 2.0.1 update i.e. crackling audio, LED and keyboard back-lighting dysfunction, etc. Actually, I have yet to experience any of these issues.
This isn't bad news, mind you. Just a little something that we can look forward to as the new & improved kernels become available. I still have high hopes that the official 2.1 release is going to be a very optimized ROM/kernel for our beloved DROID. And when that kernel gets over-clocked.
UPDATE: I have since removed the CompCache from my DROID. I would get reboots when I tried calling anyone.

Aug 15, 2010Does anybody happen to have the official Google Gallery .apk running on the X? I really miss having my Picasa photos available on the phone like I did with the original Droid. I could have sworn that I had the file somewhere, but I can't find it.
