LG Eve :: Keypad - Keyboard Locked
Jan 16, 2010
I just got the LG Eve from Rogers a month ago. I was typing a message with the keyboard, and suddenly all the keys weren't working. But the touch screen looks fine. I suspect that I accidentally press something that cause me to lock the keys. Is there anyway to unlock it?

I just bought an HTC desire. I love the different keyboards, but would love to set them as defaults for different tasks. The QWERTY keyboard is too difficult to use while on the move, so I like to use the keypad (mobile set up) when sending text messages. The rest of the time I find the keyboard easier to use but it is a pain to switch between the 2. Is there anyway of setting different defaults, or an easier way of switching between the 2?

i find the phone key pad better than QWERTY/compact QWERTY bec i do most of my texting one hand.. I'm using HTC_IME right now but its still slow to me.. it highlights the words while typing.. i tried betterkeyboard, touchpal, swiftkey, and a lot of keyboard apps but very few has the phone keypad keyboard on it.. and those who have it (betterkeyboard) responses very slow..

I just upgraded to Android 2.1, and I HATE the keyboard defaulting to XT9 style. Is there a replacement keyboard program that will let XT9 be disabled, AND that will let me use the cell phone keypad style for input? I do most of my texting with 1 hand and find the cell phone keypad style easier to use.

I have a layout with lots of different imagebuttons on it. Application is developed in full-touch, so there should be no response to keyboard or keypad on all activities except one, where user can input his name.
Is there a way to achieve that?
I've checked on debug, keypress and keypad press result in onKeyDown event. I've set it to return 'false' for all keys. But, for some reason, android keeps selecting my imagebuttons when keypad is pressed. And pressing Enter key result in View.onClick event.
How to totally disable all keyboard input for activity? I use Motorola Milestone for tests - a slider with a keyboard.

Does anybody know if it's possible to slide open the keyboard, but keep the screen locked? I couldn't find any settings connected to this, but even when the keyboard would slide (just a little), the phone would automatically turn on and unlock. I want to prevent that from happening.

I have a sony ericsson X10, it has a security pattern lock on the phone. However this has gone off in my pocket and now the phone is locked. I can not remember the google email address for the phone and now i can not access the phone. Orange customer service has told me to get in touch with google, in order to delete the old account [whatever that may be] but there is no number for google customer service.

I tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.

For those of you that are familiar with better keyboard. I was wondering about an easy way to switch from the t9 keyboard to the regular qwerty keyboard. I was under the impression that swiping left would toggle between the 2 but all that does is bring me to the numbers and symbols keyboard. I've been changing back and forth to the android keyboard because its faster than going into the better keyboard settings.

I want to have input type for the text boxes that only takes numbers and decimal point. Input type of Number or Decimal, still brings the full keypad and the buttons are small. Input type of Phone does the trick, but not all phones have a comma or a dot to enter the decimal point. What is the best way around? I think I found a bug in 2.0.1. If you power on your Droid in the dark, the keypad backlight does not work. You have to go to Setting -> Display and manually unclick the "Auto" and reclick it back.Anyway to get it to work is to power the droid is a lighted room and everything will work fine. I think somehow the light sensor got screw up when it is dark to start with.

I know I know, texting while doing other things (we all know what I'm talking about) isn't safe. However, one thing I miss about the flip phone that I ditched a month ago is that I could text completely without looking by using T9. I was really good at it. With the full QWERTY on my Samsung Moment. I have to look, and sometimes, it's not safe.I had a thought the other night. Is there a way to pair a bluetooth number pad with a phone and use it for T9? I assume the number pad would have to be used upside-down (keypads are flipped from phones), but it would work wonderfully. I'm sure some software would be needed, but I'm no application developer, so I don't know where to start. Any thoughts?

I've seen with the onscreen keypad, the application does not seem to be notified that the OSK has been brought in front of it.I would like to be able to change the layout of my screen so that relevant information is visible when the keypad is brought to the fore.I have information onscreen that changes as the user types in a number. Also, the implementation of the OSK in landscape mode completely breaks the functionality of our application since the OSK takes over the complete screen. It would be much better for us if a 12-key numeric keyboard were available on one side of the screen and leave the other side available to the application. Can there be layout qualifiers such as we have with layout-land- keyshidden...such as layout-land-osk?

I'd like to replace the "enter" button that appears on the keypad automatically, with a done button that would just close the keypad when the user hits it. I've seen this done on a couple of apps (e.g the Nexus One twitter app) and would like to implement something similar. does anyone know how? Also is it possible to get the text that appears by default to auto erase when the user click to edit the edittext box?

I've installed MyBackUp Pro, but when I try and run it it asks me to enter the google order number, which I have. However, selecting the text field doesn't open the keypad, and I can't find a way of manually opening it, so I can't enter the number. Any suggestions? The alternative of looking up the details is no use as my name or postcode wasn't on the order.

The HTC Hero is my first experience with a virtual keyboard. It takes some getting used to but I have adapted rather quickly - to the point that I actually like it better. The self-correcting feature is great. It catches nearly all my mistakes and fixes them on the fly.
However - I don't know if I've gotten better or my phone has gotten slower - but it seems to lag behind my typing now. I discovered that if I turn off the vibrate feedback feature that it speeds up considerably. I would think that anybody who gets really fast at typing on their Hero is eventually going to have to turn that off.

Today my wife upgraded to the HTC Wildfire - so far it's great, but I seem to have come across a small problem, and wondered if anyone had any advice please?
When typing status update, or email on facebook app, or being online through hotmail, gmail, or any other site where you are typing a lot, or where you have username on one line, and password on the other, the keypad seems to be massive, and gets in the way so you can't see what you're typing?

I have a HTC Wildfire and anytime I'm on a call, the keypad is active which means I'm pushing numbers or unknowingly scrolling through parts of my phone when my face/ear comes into contact with the phone.
It's extremely annoying and I'm wondering whether this is the case will all Wildfires or is there something I need to change in the settings?
Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere in the forum. I've done a quick search and haven't managed to come across any solutions so far.

I'm new to smartphones. I hate the keypad on the calling app. Running 4.3 on xperia z1 compact. Just can't hit the right numbers. I notice that the numeric keypad in a number of apps is a lot more usable, Because there's physical separation between the numbers. I've tried searching around the subject, but just get info on text keypads, not calling keypads. Can I configure my calling app keypad?
