KitKat 4.4 :: Nexus 5 - Gmail Sync Will Not Stay On
Apr 7, 2014I've gone into settings on my Nexus 5, and everything is checked right. Auto sync is on under data usage, and under the Google account. I've tried deleting and re-adding them etc.
Been googling this all day and none of the answers I've found have worked.
Every time I open Gmail, at the top it says "account sync is turned off"
How do I get it to stay on? Or is this a glitch I'm just gonna have to get used to/wait for a fix.

However, I am having problems with the stock messaging app. No matter what app I choose as the default messaging app Textra or ChompSMS, the pop-up notification for the stock messaging app always shows up, despite the fact that I have already turned the notification off on the stock messaging app. This means I am getting two pop-ups each time I get a text message.

Feb 19, 2014 I'm suddenly having trouble opening up audio attachments/files. Running a Nexus 4 - OS 4.4.2. I get my work voicemail as e-mail attachments in .wav format. Up until today I was able to just tap on the attachment, and it would download and start playing. Now it says "No app can open this attachment for viewing". If I go into the Downloads and try to open it up, it says, "Can't open file". Same if I try and open up a mp3 that's in Downloads. However, opening a PDF or Excel file from Downloads or straight from email works just fine. If I go into the music player I can open up the .wav and .mp3 files from Downloads just fine.
I tried restarting a few times, and also tried clearing the app cache with no luck. What should I try next?

Nov 19, 2013I'm having problems with my nexus 10. It wont play any videos when I'm running cyanogenmod for android android 4.4. It can't play any videos online or files. I tried another ROM for android 4.4 and it still won't work. It works fine on android 4.3 or any custom Roms for it. I'll include a video for it in the next post.

While connecting Nexus 7 and PC (Windows) via USB cable, after taking a screenshot on Nexus 7 (using Power + VolumeDown), a png-file of Screenshot is saved, but its file-size is zero (of course, png graphics is not shown).
Once USB cable is unplugged, the png-file gets correct file-size, and png graphics is visible.
I hope taking screenshots while connecting Nexus and PC.

Dec 2, 2013Some issues are correctable through doing a factory wipe. Other issues can be corrected through reloading the image from Google's own factory image repository. However, some things (in particular the battery drain issue) seems to be an issue within 4.4 itself, and the only solution I've found has been to revert from 4.4 to 4.3.
So I'm posting this thread and asking the more knowledgeable users here on AndroidForums to post clear, concise directions for acquiring and flashing these devices back to the Google "factory image".
The reason I'm asking for the community to pitch in is that the instructions I've seen are kind of scattered, are not necessarily up to date, and they can and do vary depending on whether you're doing this with Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, or with Mac OS X, or with Linux.
I was able to re-flash my Nexus 4 in Lion back to 4.3, but I had to do editing of bash shell scripts and even then had to issue the execution of the appropriate shell script from the exact right spot or else it couldn't find the command, or couldn't execute the command. The directions on Google's site were incomplete, and the ones I found on various message boards seemed more like an author's "best guess" than authoritative "you can trust that this will work" workflows.

May 6, 2010for the last two days ive been trying everything i can think off to sync my laptop and phone.i have windows 7 64bit,ive installed the drivers successfully and can read/write to the sd card but cannot sync contacts via htc sync.it only ever tells me "disconnected" last week i could sync with a htc desire with no problems,please can some one help me from tearing my hair out.yes ive tried ticking usb debugging.

I clicked yes and now cannot access the app. I see it under settings/app/downloaded/ or all, but can't launch it. How do access it after its hidden? Dec 18, 2013My Nexus 5 has been great but many of the widgets freeze regularly especially any with a clock or weather. I've did re-installs on them and it continues to happen. The clock and/or weather will update for a while and then after a few hours will freeze in time. I have everything stock still but did try a few custom launchers including nova & apex to see if it occurred with them as well and it did so I went back to stock. I did a hard reset and they began working for a few days then back to the same issue today. I've tried everything I can think of. The problem is consistent and with every widget no matter the developer. Those for sure affected are HD Widgets, Beautiful Widgets, PolyClock (a world clock), and RetroClock. I'm assuming this is a kitkat compatibility issue but do not know for sure.
I also have a Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 10. The 7 hasn't been affected at all but the 10 has it intermittently. All 3 devices have updated to 4.4.2
This is very annoying as widgets are one of the primary thing that sets Android apart from iOS for me.

I tested the flash by sheilding light with my hand and it works (on auto) just greyed out cant change from auto to manual. Pretty ordinary if you ask me. would like to force flash on on occasion.

Jan 21, 2014I have enjoyed my nexus 7 2103, on 4.4.2, for a few weeks now. I got adblockplus to clean up my browsing. My office wifi wasn't letting me ssh tunnel to my home server, so I set up hotspot vpn shield, but it limits usage in the free version. So I grabbed connectbot and proxydroid to get in, root using wugfresh to make those work properly. Got what I needed from the home server, shut it down, and headed for home.
So I got home, and Chrome now says Unable to connect to proxy server. So I made sure connectbot and proxyserver were not connected, and deleted the profiles I'd set up. No luck. Deleted the apps. No luck. Deleted the apps, no luck. Turned off ad block plus and deleted that, no luck. Cleared out hotspot vpn shield, deleted, nothing.
So I tried factory reset, no luck. Then I read that some people have had luck reinstalling those apps that changed proxy settings, which hasn't worked for me yet. I've tried restoring the backup I made preroot, no luck.
What can I do to get my nexus back online? I finally found the proxy settings under kitkat (totally different than older versions, you press and hold the network name, NOT intuitive). I'm back online, and will tell my self I'll be more careful in the future. But I won't be.
General :: Spoofing MAC Address On Nexus 7 FLO With KitKat?
Dec 7, 2013I recently bought a Nexus 7 Flo tablet running the latest Android 4.4. I've since been trying to spoof a MAC address on it, but for some reason the wireless card seems to refuse to use the spoofed mac no matter what I do.
There's a more detailed discussion what I've tried in android.stackexchange.com/questions/57922/wifi-network-not-accessible-with-modified-mac-address (forum won't let me link), but I'll repeat the main points here. I have tried both ip link set wlan0 address XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX and busybox ifconfig wlan0 hw ether XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX. They both result in the MAC address being changed as far as I can tell from the output of ip link and busybox ifconfig, but when connecting to a network with MAC filtering with the spoofed MAC address being allowed, the device fails to connect. /sys/class/net/wlan0/address also shows the spoofed address. If I use the device's stock MAC and add this to the filter on the AP, then the device connects successfully.

Nov 14, 2013I'm on the Nexu5 and was wondering whether or not the permissions manager was reachable through Kit Kat? I've tried the usual permission manager / App Ops stuff from the Play Store and nothing seems to work. Is there a way to access it or did they take it back away with Kit Kat?

Nov 21, 2013My Nexus 4 (purchased directly from Google) automatically downloaded the latest update today. I installed it, and everything crashed. My phone is now caught in a continual re-boot loop. It gets as far as the little dead robot, and then stops with the message "No command", holds for a bit, and then starts the reboot again. Has been doing this for the last half hour or so.
How can I break the cycle, or reset, or something? Anything?

Mar 14, 2014When I go to change or assign a contact photo, I'm prompted like always to crop the photo I've selected. Once the crop is made and I hit done, an error message at the bottom is posted. "Edited photo can't be saved" and the photo is not assigned. This is something new that has just developed recently and seems to be specific to 4.4.2 on my 2 different Nexus devices.The only work around is to change the photo through gmail on my PC.

Anyways I'm having a weird intermittent problem when I send texts through Hangouts and I'm not sure whats causing the issue. I've had Hangouts send roughly a dozen texts through thinking they were picture texts. I've had my friends answer me back saying "I didn't receive the picture", and I never tried to send a pic?I'm also not really keen on Hangouts, whats a simple to use, bug free messaging app?
