View 3 RepliesI'm looking for a text widget that can access a text file that is located on my phone or dropbox and display the contents of the file. It should always update itself as soon as there is a change in the text file. Does an app like this exist and where can I find it?

Hello there I have a problem regarding the new HTC Magic I purchased : in my text display where I read the conversations between me and my contacts... it has all of the messages I sent in 1 group together, and all of the messages my contacts have sent together. How do I change this to display the order in which they were sent and received? For example right now it is
ME : blahblahblah
ME : blahblahblah
ME : blahblahblah
You : blahblahblah
You : blahblahblah
You : blahblahblah
I have some reference data in a text file (~5MB) that I want to use with might android application.The file is of the format:
1|a|This is line 1a
1|b|This is line 1b
2|a|This is line 2a
2|b|This is line 2b
2|c|This is line 2c
What I want to know is the most efficient way (less memory, fast, size etc.) to use this file within my application.
a.) Should I save the file as a raw resource and open and read the whole file whenever I need a certain line.
b.) Should I convert the file to XML and use XPath to query the file when ever I need to look up a value
<!--sample XML -->
<data>
<line number="1">
<entry name="a">This is line 1 a</entry>
</line>
</data>
c.) Should I just copy & paste the whole file as a static string array in the application and use that.
[EDIT] I will also need to search this file and jump to arbitrary keywords e.g. "line 1a".
app that could copy text from picture and then make it to text file or copy it to clipboard? GT-I9300

View 1 Replies View RelatedI thought it might be interesting to some developers. Here's a complete working example of ContentProvider for this purpose: http://blog.tourizo.com/2009/02/how-to-display-local-file-in-android. I also found a topic here: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa. Looks like the topic was closed and I couldn't reply there, so I created new one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a png file in my res/drawable-ldpi folder. I'm working in Eclipse with the emulator, but I've tried this on my 2.2.1 Android phone and I get the same behavior. I have an ImageView and I want to set the src programatically, based on a database call. If I just put
Code:
src="@drawable.norusdpyr"
in the Activity's XML file, the file displays fine. BUT, if I put
Code:
String imageresource = "R.drawable." + parsedData[4].toString();
chart.setImageURI(Uri.parse(imageresource));
where parsedData[4].toString() = "nor_usdpyr" I don't see anything. I've also tried
Code:
String imageresource = "android.resource://" + getPackageName() + "/R.drawable." + parsedData[4].toString();
chart.setImageURI(Uri.parse(imageresource));
and
Code:
InputStream is = getClass().getResourceAsStream("/drawable/" + parsedData[4].toString());
chart.setImageDrawable(Drawable.createFromStream(is, ""));
and
Code:
String imageresource = "R.drawable." + parsedData[4].toString();
File file = new File(imageresource);
chart.setImageDrawable(Drawable.createFromPath(file.getAbsolutePath()));
and
Code:
Context context = getApplicationContext();
int ResID = context.getResources().getIdentifier(imageresource, "drawable", "com.KnitCard.project");
chart.setImageResource(ResID);
finally,
Code:
chart.setImageURI(Uri.parse("android.resource://" + getPackageName() + "/R.drawable.nor_usdpyr"));
doesn't work.
None of these work. What am I doing wrong?
We have a large HTML which contents 1000's of lines. But we want to show content of the HTML file that fits a single screen. We want provide a '>' kind of to show the next contents of the same HTML file. Our objective is to only display the HTML contents that fits the screen.Similar to reader application For user, it seems there are several pages. Is there any way in which we can achieve this functionality. Whether WebView has any function related to full fill the requirement.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHere is what I am trying to do:
- have a database that contains a word, and the name of an image file associated with that word.
- the words from the database will be displayed in a listview
- when the word is selected, a new activity will start displaying the word and the image in an image view.
Would it be best to store the terms in an array and have the list view populate from this array and then pull from the database onitemclick? Or can the list view be populated with the terms from the database?
Will android be able to display the image if the name of the file is stored in the db?
I am writing a simple little game. I would do in her dialogue with the character in the game.
Is it possible to display the text without the use of XML? I also want to be able to move my text to any location on the screen.
Is there a way?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm working on an Android app that's licensed under Apache Software License 2.0. As recommended in best practice, I would like to display the license to the end user for acceptance before proceeding. However, the ASL text is large and I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to show the entire license.
I would like to know if there are any recommendations for apps under ASL on what license text to use (perhaps an abbreviated version of ASL)? Pointers to actual license text would be quite helpful. At a minimum, I was thinking to show the "Disclaimer of Warranty" section and for the whole license include the link to ASL site.
I'm fetching some data from my web API that returns XML with content which includes escaped unicode characters. So there is content such as "Izložba" which I need to display in a TextView as word "Izložba". How can I do this? Right now these characters are either omitted or displayed as that raw escaped value.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs the best way to add some static text to a display to use a TextView?
Seems like there should be a TextLabel or TextStatic or something like that...
simple question. In a class, if I wanted to set the text to the text value of a string I have, what is the code for that?
I have: TextView textView = (TextView) findViewById(R.string.noFaceFive); textView.setText(textView);
but setText says : The method setText(CharSequence) in the type TextView is not applicable for the arguments (TextView)
is there a set Text to display the text of a string? Serious mind fart on my part.
I want to display the icons in grid view and also text heading for that icon just below it.
