PNG File Not Display In Image View When SRC Set Programmatically

Jun 8, 2012

I have a png file in my res/drawable-ldpi folder. I'm working in Eclipse with the emulator, but I've tried this on my 2.2.1 Android phone and I get the same behavior. I have an ImageView and I want to set the src programatically, based on a database call. If I just put

Code:

src="@drawable.norusdpyr"
in the Activity's XML file, the file displays fine. BUT, if I put

Code:

String imageresource = "R.drawable." + parsedData[4].toString();
chart.setImageURI(Uri.parse(imageresource));
where parsedData[4].toString() = "nor_usdpyr" I don't see anything. I've also tried

Code:
String imageresource = "android.resource://" + getPackageName() + "/R.drawable." + parsedData[4].toString();
chart.setImageURI(Uri.parse(imageresource));
and

Code:

InputStream is = getClass().getResourceAsStream("/drawable/" + parsedData[4].toString());
chart.setImageDrawable(Drawable.createFromStream(is, ""));
and

Code:

String imageresource = "R.drawable." + parsedData[4].toString();
File file = new File(imageresource);
chart.setImageDrawable(Drawable.createFromPath(file.getAbsolutePath()));
and

Code:

Context context = getApplicationContext();
int ResID = context.getResources().getIdentifier(imageresource, "drawable", "com.KnitCard.project");
chart.setImageResource(ResID);
finally,

Code:

chart.setImageURI(Uri.parse("android.resource://" + getPackageName() + "/R.drawable.nor_usdpyr"));
doesn't work.

None of these work. What am I doing wrong?

Will Android Be Able To Display Image If Name Of File Stored In Database?

Aug 11, 2012

Here is what I am trying to do:

- have a database that contains a word, and the name of an image file associated with that word.
- the words from the database will be displayed in a listview
- when the word is selected, a new activity will start displaying the word and the image in an image view.

Would it be best to store the terms in an array and have the list view populate from this array and then pull from the database onitemclick? Or can the list view be populated with the terms from the database?

Will android be able to display the image if the name of the file is stored in the db?

Android :: Write Contents Of Custom View To Large Image File On SD Card

Mar 12, 2010

I have a class that extends View. I override the onDraw method and allow the user to draw on the screen. I am at the point where I want to save this view as an image. I Can use buildDrawingCache and getDrawingCache to create a bitmap that I can write to the SD card. However, the image is not good quality at a large size, it has jagged edges. Since I have a View and I use Paths I can transform all by drawing to a bigger size. I just don't know how to make the Canvas bigger so when I call getDrawingCache it doesn't crop all the paths I am just transformed. What is happening is I transform all my paths but when I write the Bitmap to file I am only getting the "viewport" of the actual screen size. I want something much bigger.

Android :: Add View To XML Layout Programmatically / Make It Z Order Below Existing View

Oct 8, 2010

I have an XML layout with some custom tabs, a heading, and a ProgressBar(main.xml). I wish to add another XML layout(home.xml) to the main.xml layout, as i wish to keep main.xml re-usable for other activity's layouts and simply add things to it as necessary.The problem: after inflating R.layout.home into rootLayout, it seems as though the ProgressBar contained in rootLayout is hidden underneath the content of home.xml.Is there a way to tell certain views(via XML) to float above other views when the layout is constructed in this way?if not, am i forced to use methods such as progressBar.bringToFront() to raise targeted views to the top?what alternatives do i have in z-ordering views when some layouts are constructed using inflation?

Android :: View Image In Action View Intent?

Nov 16, 2009

I'd like to show a png or jpg I downloaded from the next in an image viewer intent, but can't get it to work.

Bitmap bmp = getImageBitmap(jpg);
String path = getFilesDir().getAbsolutePath() + "/test.png";
File file = new File(path);
FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(file);
bmp.compress( CompressFormat.PNG, 100, fos );
fos.close();
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setAction(android.content.Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
intent.setDataAndType(Uri.fromFile(new File(path)), "image/png");
startActivity(intent);

I know the bitmap is downloaded ok (use the same routine for supplying it my ImageView instances elsewhere in my app) - I think it wrote to file ok, I can see it on disk and the file size is correct. The intent is launched but an exception is thrown: then the new activity just sits there, blank. How does this work?

Android :: Can I Programmatically Generate Focused Image For An ImageButton

Mar 6, 2010

I'm porting an application from iPhone to Android. The iPhone app has artwork for some dozen or more buttons in their normal and pressed state. That translated over just fine to Android. However, we of course currently don't have any images for the "focused" state.

Besides the work involved in creating all these focused button images, we're not sure exactly what color to set the focus too. Selection color varies from phone to phone, etc. We'd have to come up with some neutral "white glow" of some sort I suppose. Then the idea struck -- could we programmatically render a focus images for the buttons based on the current selection color? Have folks been doing anything like this in the Android dev community? Can you point me to some examples. A net search didn't turn up anything too useful, though perhaps I searched on the wrong keywords.
