I am thinking about buying this and just wanted to know from someone who has used this if the screen is very responsive. I know if may not be like the iPhone or the Hero which used "capacitive" screens, but is it responsive enough that you barely have to push down on the screen to select items? Also, would you recommend this over an unlocked HTC Magic?

my newly bought Tattoo became unbootable a few days ago.It worked perfectly fine two days ago, then it started to randomly reboot itself, but after that, it became completely unbootable, as in, it was stuck at the "TATTOO" screen. The phone internals are completely untouched, no custom images, not rooted, no nothing, it's factory fresh.The battery is full too, and I didn't install anything that could possibly have corrupted the bootloader (or whatever is failing to load).I already tried to wipe the user data _TWICE_ (using HOME + BACK + POWER) with no success. I'm also perfectly able to get into HBOOT (using VOLDOWN + MENU + POWER), and connect via usb (using "FASTBOOT USB" from HBOOT). However, I can't completely wipe the cache with fastboot.exe from the android-sdk, since it doesn't allow it: "erasing 'cache'... FAILED (remote: not allow)".

I have experienced this myself when my phone is in the car dock and when it is laying on plastic or fabric. On my phone, it seems to only be on the top half of the screen.

View 24 Replies View RelatedDid a search and its discussed in other models sections of htc but not really a fix, so i figured it would help users of the tattoo to list the results here.having only just got my tattoo i was in a call today and answered it as per normal, and then wanted to switch on the speaker option when i looked it was a black screen! having done a bit of searching it seems this is a problem for lots and I would like the screen to remain active so i can end or speaker without lots of button pressing. I found a app in the market called "screen On" where you can select to keep the screen active for different apps, and active call has been added in the latest version of this app.
I have made several calls since and not had any problems with pressing the screen with my ear/face ending or launching other apps.Try "screen On" in the market if you find the change to android different that what your used to.
Is anyone else having issues with the responsiveness of the touchscreen after updating to 2.1? It seems to have lost some accuracy on touch detection and I find myself having to select things twice sometimes before it registers my touch.

Is it true, that most of the apps from the market don't work well or dont work at all, because of the lower resolution than normal android phones ( 240x320 vs. 320x480 ) ???
This seems a big issue to me, and im surely not gonna buy the phone if this is true.
As i own a Samsung Galaxy with 192Mb RAM i know that memory is a big problem on Android phones and am wondering how much memory does the tatoo actualy have, considering different info on different sites? Does it have 256 Mb of memory and does it work well?
How is the phone performing overall, what are the main pro's and con's?, a question for the current users
I have two questions about sensor listeners
1. from which thread are sensor values updated and should this be synchronized? can sensor's listener callback be a good place to call custom's view onDraw method? as this should be done from different thread. I cant find anything about it. In another words my problem is that I want to listen to sensors change and draw something on view surface but I dont know which thread (the main thread of the application?) is updating sensor's state
2. If I register sensor listener with SENSOR_DELAY_FASTEST my application is not responsive at all! Raw application with TextView only is not reacting to go back or home button! How should I deal with this or am I doing something wrong?
my touch screen doesn't work or work sometimes on the different place where i touch.I remove the protection from the screen and make a reset to the fabric settings but problem is still here.Early i can make a calibration but now i can't do this.Problem is worest every next hour.Now is a problem also to unlock the phone,i do this once in ten or more times.
View 3 Replies View RelatedBasically on Saturday it was raining hard where I live and I was out and about with my tattoo in my pocket. I used it a few times whilst out but made sure it didn't get too wet although I personally got drenched and the phone was in my wet trouser pocket! That evening the touch screen stopped responding completely, nothing would happen when I touched the screen at all! The directional buttons like home and menu worked however. I then took the battery out and put it back in, but still no luck, the touch screen was dead. Resigned to having to send it back to HTC, I left it switched off over night. The next morning I switched it on again and it started to work fine again!! No problems, so I thought the problem had passed.
But then a bit later in the day the same thing happened again, touch screen not responding but this time as well although I wasn't touching the screen the tattoo was pressing the touch screen button in the bottom left hand corner of the screen on its own!? So that made me think that the touch screen was indeed broken! I then performed a complete factory reset last night, and yet again after that the phone was working fine again. But then again when my alarm went off this morning, the touch screen was not responding again and the tattoo was pressing that same button again on its own, on and off. So I took the battery out again, left for a few hours, just turned it back on now and the tattoo is working fine again!
I could say that these days I've made a big mistake by sitting on my phone, it was on my bed and i've managed to sit on it. The resoult was that my touch screen not worked for an hour. After that, and after a full phone reset, i've managed to bring it back to life. But now, when i'm looking at my screen i see on it a small rectangular thing with different collors and i can see some small dot's on it in a pattern. Should I go in service with the phone, or you all have the same rectangular thing.

Is it just my phone or every time I attempt to take a picture it takes quite sometime after I take the picture the actual moment the picture is captured? not to mention the lag between pictures, the lack of burst mode, and another thing that is quite annoying why does the image in the camera gets so DARK when you press the camera button to focus? the image on the screen should represent the actual photo your capturing not some dark version of it one or two seconds after you click/touch the screen to capture the picture.

Today I got a 16GB Class 6 SD card in the mail, one to both max out storage and to settle a hunch -- that the class of card (i/o speed) would noticeably affect how the Eris responded. Class 6 cards are about 30 - 50% more cash than Class 2, but triple the rated write speed. Just happened to find one cheap enough to try it out...
Wow. Not only has everything from the pattern unlock screen to the browser become far more responsive, but the stutter for actions in the Sense UI is gone.
Now, for the circumstances... formatted the new card and copied the entire old card's contents onto it w/USB & my desktop. Added another 2GB of music while mounted... still slick. Mind you, tasks themselves don't happen any faster... just the delay between them I'd gotten used to, vanished...
Am I missing something? I'd hate to get anyone's hopes up, if this is just something that only resembles a performance tweak. Either the system or software use SD memory more than I'm aware, or this is all in my head. All I can say for certain is that my Eris is much nicer to use now.
Just received my Tattoo, this is an upgrade from the iphone then the blackberry 8900 which both broke. so far i am loving it and set emails, facebook and twitter up. I do have a question that I cannot answer from the manual. in the top left of the screen in the status bar i have a symbol of a person with a circle (looks like the circle when refreshing twitter or emails etc). i cannot work out what this means, I do not have any unread notifications and my friend does not have this symbol on his tattoo.

There doesn't seem to be any explicit way of doing asynchronous file I/ O or asynchronous resource loading. So, suppose I put BitmapFactory.decodeResource() or Resources.openRawResource() into a separate thread. Will those methods play nice with the other threads, yielding during blocking I/O operations so those other threads can run?
If those methods rely on the thread scheduler to forcibly suspend them, then the separate resource-loading thread isn't going to help me get my application started any faster (although it will help it to be more responsive to user input).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using HTC Desire S for about 2 yrs now, but since I am not a power user, I just use it as it came. Now considering to root it and was looking more closely at things and I see there are many services running in the background under "Running".
I don't know the inner workings of Android system, so would like to know if more services are running (especially from apps which I don't regularly use) then does it effect battery life and does it make the phone slower ?
For example under Calendar, 4 services are running - AutoSettingService, ImmediateModeService, DashboardService,ConnecttoPcService.
Google Maps has TrafficAppWidgetUpdateService and PrefetcherService ( I rarely use Google maps because I use offline rmaps)
Another thing is I have a prepaid connection without a data plan so I would like to control which apps connect to the net when i switch on 3G - i mean I would prefer if only the app which I want to use the data should use it, while others should not.
And there are some things taking data, which i don't really understand - but since they are related to Android system I am not sure whether to try to restrict them (Android System, HTC Function test, HTC Checkin service, Settings storage, VPN, Status bar, Bluetooth, Google backpp transport, etc, Phone, Dialer Storage, SIM toolkit)
Any general idea about these services - battery and network usage and effect on responsiveness ?
I'm considering changing my phone (quite old Motorola) with something from the 21 century..While looking for one (HTC), I found, that only Tattoo can fit in my budget.There are, however, couple of question I'd like to ask:
Does Tattoo support offline GPS navigation (and if so - can you, please, suggest a app for this). Most of what google has to say about this is related to Google maps (obviously), but it looks like this can't be done there. And i really don't see the point having a GPS antenna that requires Wi-fi/data connection in additionIs the lower resolution / screen really such a pain for the apps in the market. Are there any problems with the all-day apps, that one needs?I might have a chance to buy a second hand Iphone 3g 16 for 40-50 euro higher price. Can you advise what's the better choice? I'm not sure about the condition of the iphone, but lets say it has only cosmetic problems, which doesn't bother me.
I'm trying to play around with the wifi settings on the Tattoo. Other threads suggest that there are some advanced settings under wifi settings, I can't find these on my Orange UK Tattoo. Is this another of Orange's helpful modifications (still smarting at their gmail app trick).

I have poor reception anyway But I found out that if I stand near a wall in my office an tile my head at 55 degrees, then I get 'ok' reception (exaggerating) But this is with other phones. The Tattoo doesn't want to know And I have to move to somewhere where there is a much stronger reception
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am thinking of getting one of these for my girlfriends Xmas but would be getting it on a tariff without a data plan, relying on wi-fi for any data requirements. We were in the orange shop briefly - so i could sneakily test the water as to which phones she likes - She likes the look of the Tattoo and loves the idea of custom cases (her idea of a good phone is very superficial) but hasn't used a smartphone for any longer than 10 minutes. She doesn't like WinMo because it is very straight-laced and business orientated. I played with a hero in the orange shop and found it a pleasure to use but i have been using smartphones for a few years now. I have a couple of questions :
Will the Tattoo be usable/of any use without a data plan? What will work? what doesn't?
How easy is Android to use for a complete beginner to smartphones? She currently has a Samsung D600 (which she loves). Is she going to struggle to use basic functions?
