My SD card on my droid x went bad so the verizon store gave me a new one but it seems they formatted it for a blackberry hence I see blackberry folders in there Can someone tell me the file/folder structure for Android 2.2? Once I format and clean it up, what are the directories I should be creating? If there's a link that describes it, that would even be better..

Added music to SD card (I accidentally formatted so initial file structure was gone). I created a Music folder and dumped some MP3s in there. Now I can play them through music player, view them in Astro File Manager, but they are not available to select for phone ringtone.

my newly bought Tattoo became unbootable a few days ago.It worked perfectly fine two days ago, then it started to randomly reboot itself, but after that, it became completely unbootable, as in, it was stuck at the "TATTOO" screen. The phone internals are completely untouched, no custom images, not rooted, no nothing, it's factory fresh.The battery is full too, and I didn't install anything that could possibly have corrupted the bootloader (or whatever is failing to load).I already tried to wipe the user data _TWICE_ (using HOME + BACK + POWER) with no success. I'm also perfectly able to get into HBOOT (using VOLDOWN + MENU + POWER), and connect via usb (using "FASTBOOT USB" from HBOOT). However, I can't completely wipe the cache with fastboot.exe from the android-sdk, since it doesn't allow it: "erasing 'cache'... FAILED (remote: not allow)".

That's what I want to know. If yes - awesome, if no - who can we "request" to root that thing?!? If maybe - what are the risks I'm running into?How can I aver those risks? Backup? System Restore? What are my options.

I'm new to Android having got my HTC Tattoo during the week.I'm wondering if there is any way to get Android 2 (Eclair) onto my Tattoo? I've googled for it but there's only instructions for the Hero.I don't care if its a vanilla ROM without Sense UI. I'm just looking for an update to help improve battery life and bluetooth functionality (plus I like to have all the latest versions of things :-)I emailed HTC about it and they said they couldn't confirm if the Tattoo was getting the update (which probably means it won't...)
Also, I'd rather not use a buggy beta ROM .I know people managed to get a V2 ROM onto the G1 by rooting but I presume it's differen for the Tattoo because the different screen size, addition of FM radio etc.

I'm trying to play around with the wifi settings on the Tattoo. Other threads suggest that there are some advanced settings under wifi settings, I can't find these on my Orange UK Tattoo. Is this another of Orange's helpful modifications (still smarting at their gmail app trick).

I just found out something today: my reception is exceptionally poor with the Tattoo. I have poor reception anyway But I found out that if I stand near a wall in my office an tile my head at 55 degrees, then I get 'ok' reception (exaggerating) But this is with other phones. The Tattoo doesn't want to know And I have to move to somewhere where there is a much stronger reception

I am thinking of getting one of these for my girlfriends Xmas but would be getting it on a tariff without a data plan, relying on wi-fi for any data requirements. We were in the orange shop briefly - so i could sneakily test the water as to which phones she likes - She likes the look of the Tattoo and loves the idea of custom cases (her idea of a good phone is very superficial) but hasn't used a smartphone for any longer than 10 minutes. She doesn't like WinMo because it is very straight-laced and business orientated. I played with a hero in the orange shop and found it a pleasure to use but i have been using smartphones for a few years now. I have a couple of questions :
Will the Tattoo be usable/of any use without a data plan? What will work? what doesn't?
How easy is Android to use for a complete beginner to smartphones? She currently has a Samsung D600 (which she loves). Is she going to struggle to use basic functions?

The headset is quite new, but has no makers ref on it so can't find out what it's setting are, but when its on and the Tattoo is scanning, it is never found... I have also tried making the Tatto discoverable during this process as assume its a two way process....

I have been emailing the people at copilot asking when they will get it on the market. Finally go to the development team and explained about the screen size on the Tattoo and they need to "sign" the file as compatible. They emailed back saying they have found the settings and will submit a new copy to Google soon

I've read a few posts about the amazing deficiencies of Tattoo's bluetooth connections.I've got a built in car bluetooth kit - I forget the name, but it's one of the more expensive ones that comes built in with company cars.My Tattoo refuses to pair and connect.Before I give up, I wanted to know if I 'root', will this help?I say 'root', I know what it's about, but haven't looked into what is needed to do it and how easy it is and what disadvantages, if any it has....I can't do without the bluetooth usage on my car, if I can't get working, then I'll just have to sell - which I don't want to.

I'm trying to create a simple Workout Timer for Android. The user creates a WorkoutPlan containing info such as total duration, total rest time, etc, the app will display a timer that updates every second.
Pretty simple to begin with, but I'm trying to build the app as properly as possible, i.e. separation of concern, correct techniques, responsive UI, ensure the timer will be accurate, etc.
Here's a simplification of what I have so far:
WorkoutPlan, the user can load/save different workout plans to the timer
Code:
public class WorkoutPlan {
public long duration;
}
TimerThread, this class implements `Runnable`, it takes in a `WorkoutPlan` in the constructor, start/stop, shows elapsed time.
Code:
public class TimerThread implements Runnable {
public boolean running = false;
[Code]....
TimerView, the custom view that displays the elapsed time
Code:
public class TimerView extends View {
private final Paint mBg;
private final Paint mText;
private WorkoutPlan plan;
private TimerThread timer;
private Thread thread;
private Handler handler = new TimerHandler();
[Code]...
Finally, WorkoutTimer, the activity that starts it off
Code:
public class WorkoutTimer extends Activity {
private TimerView mTimer;
/** Called when the activity is first created. */
@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
[Code]....
A couple of questions:
Where's the best place to create the `WorkoutPlan` object? Currently it's done in `TimerView`. Should it be done in the `WorkoutTimer` activity instead? If yes, how do I pass the `WorkoutPlan` object to `TimerView`?
The app works fine the first time, but crashes when I go to the home screen then back to the app the second time. What's causing it to crash? Is it the theading?
Currently I'm using a `Handler` in a new `Thread`. Is this ok or would a `TimerTask` be better? Where's the best place to start the thread? Am I correct to put all the threading code in `TimerView`?
Am I correct to add synchronized to all the methods in `TimerThread`?

I fear the answer is no, but before I change the structure of all of my log messages: Is there any way to do this: $ adb logcat *:S com.myappname.*:V
Or in words: I want to silence every tag that goes to logcat except the ones that begin with com.myappname. Currently my classes print into the log with this.getClass().getName() as the tag - typing each tag out individually in the filter isn't an option, so is there anyway to use the wildcard? The above command doesn't work, because it just silences every class, including the ones I've explicitly told to be verbal. I've also tried:
$ adb logcat -s com.myappname.*:V $ adb logcat com.myappname.*:V *:S
to no avail. I have a feeling I might have to log in a more constant fashion. Or I might just use log4J.

I am new to developing for android. I have a question regarding some best practices. My app is like a dashboard from which multiple different "sub-activities" can be started and done. I am wondering what is the best way to structure the app. One way is to have different layouts and load and unload them appropriately. The other is to start new activities using intents. At least this is what I have gathered from what I have read.
