HTC Incredible :: Lot Of Applications Not Work With Internal Memory?
Jun 6, 2010
I know a lot of apps using microsd for storage. I am not talking about the app themself I know they are limited to the storage in ROM I am just talking about data the app reads/write. I was searching why my maps weren't working with the weather channel app and found this thread:
http://androidforums.com/htc-incredible/71829-weather-channel-radar-not-working.html
Also tried to download and use Epicurus and it crashes every time (thinking it stores usage data on your MicroSD. I'm theorizing because I don't have a microsd card in my phone and maybe a lot of apps have trouble using the incredible internal 8GB of memory? Thinking on buying a 8GB MicroSD card just for this.

It has be reported that Apps cannot be saved in the 8gb internal memory but in the 512mb rom. Is that a problem for anybody? Reviews from Infosyncvideos and the androidcommunity stated the problem. I dunno how big apps are but it shouldn't be a big problem.

I'd like to take some of the data that is automatically downloaded to the SD card and have it run off the internal memory. Is there a list of apps that allows this without problems?

I have been trying moving applications to SD card but failed when I go to terminal and use CP command. Is anyone done applications to SD card and if yes how can somebody share some details please. A to Z. My hero is already root, just running out of space on my internal memory. Its sad that HTC don't allow to put applications on SD. Love to have an option to ask where do you want to install the apps?

This is extremely annoying since I have a new 32GB memory card class 6. There's about 11mb of internal memory on the phone left and I have tried to move applications to memory card but some don't have this feature. I have used swapper2 but this only makes the problem worse. I have a rooted HTC Wildfire mobile with the WildPuzzel rom installed.
Low on memory and the phone is slowing down and is becoming unresponsive some times. Completely ridiculous how the device comes with only 500mb of internal memory, since this is a smart phone/computer that's not very smart. Is there a method to use the memory card as internal storage space or as ram. As mentioned I used the swapper2 programme with no success. Any other hacks, I have tried over clocking but don't want to use this. I want to address the issues of low memory.
I have some games that take up about 20mb of ram:
galigochaser 18.7mb
hungry shark 11mb
speed forge 7.3mb
Just an example of application that I would like to move but the feature is not built in the application.

What apps are you guys keeping on your Evo? I had a lot of apps installed until I realized the shortage of Internal Memory. I still have a lot but I use these apps all the time.
1.) Droid Dictionary
2.) IMDb
3.) ShopSavvy
4.) Raven News
5.) Quick App Clean Cache
6.) Handcent SMS - I would like to remove this app but it's cleary better than stock.
7.) Bat'Riz 2.x
8.) Estrongs File Manager- I was using Astro, but Estrongs seems to be smaller and a little more simple to me.
9.) Google Buzz Widget
10.) Pandora
11.) USA TODAY
12.) Zedge Ringtones
13.) FeedR News Reader
14.) RepliGo Reader
15.) ShareMyApps
Internal Phone Storage

Since the 8gb with in the i7500 is flash and built in, does the phone use this to store apps/games? Or does it store it in the RAM? If it's in the RAM thats now a lot of space for apps/games especially when some are pretty big files.

I am getting a Desire next week. How many apps you can install on the internal memory without 'rooting' it? I'll probably install a lot of apps when I get mine next wednesday (I already have made a list of over 30!) and I would really like to avoid rooting it as it will probably void the warranty and I am not sure I could do it anyway - even after reading the step by step guide a few times over. How many apps have you all managed to fit in before getting the memory low message that some have reported?

The HTC Desire has limited memory of around 570Mb RAM and 512Mb ROM. The MicroSD card can hold up to 32Gb. So, why can't HTC allow apps be stored in MicroSD card? If HTC/Google's concerned about piracy issues, i.e. copies of apps from microSD card to another microSD card, etc. There is one way round to this problem: They could have installed some kind of unique crypto-key within the Desire's ROM, and any apps saved to the microSD card are automatically encrypted on-the-fly with this crypto-key.
When apps are accessed, it is decrypted on-the-fly, too. In other words, apps will ONLY work with THAT phone it shares the SAME crypto-key. Putting a microSD card containing apps into another Android phone will not work, thus solving the piracy issue. Therefore, a message to HTC: Please allow apps to microSD card (as much as 32Gb card) and BEAT iPhone/Nokia N900 at their game!

Couple of questions regarding internal memory and the Android folders. I have over 125 apps on my phone, but I have hardly put a dent in my internal memory space. So my questions are:
1) Why is it helpful to move apps to SD if they take up such little space?
2) If I want to put *data* in internal memory (possible?), or in an Android local folder *not* on the SD card, where is the best place to put it?

Been thinking of getting a wildfire, it looks like a good phone for the price range I'm in. However today I've read something about the HTC desire that it suffers with a lack of internal memory and this limits the amount of apps available you can store on it (because you cannot store onto SD card) Does the wildfire have the same problem as this, and if it does will it be rectified with the release of froyo?, or is there anyway around it? It seems a shame to have all these apps available on the Android Market but only a limited space to store them on.

It was too bad to hear about the fact that the Applications live and function within the Droid's 256MB of internal memory instead of utilizing all of the micro-SD space that the phone can have. This really hurts the Droid's ability to compete with the iPhone on things like handheld gaming since programs have to stay very small in order to not take up all your phone's space.
Games can get quite large. I had an old Palm V back in the day, and I do recall being able to eventually run applications off of the SD card. This was nice. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think there will be apps that allow Droid to run apps off of the SD card?

I want to buy the HTC Desire or the Samsung Galaxy S. At the moment I prefer the HTC Desire. It's smaller, feels better and has flash which the Samsung lacks. But when I read the fact that the HTC Desire is very limited in internal memory for installing apps and the fact that you can't transfer a lot of apps to your sd card with the help of the froyo 2.2 update got me thinking again about which phone I should pick. I don't want to buy the phone and later regret that I don't have enough space for apps. That's not the only thing that is bothering me. So I want to ask a few questions.
1: What is the average number of apps you can install on the internal memory (so without SD card) of the HTC Desire if you installed update 2.2?
2: Let's say I use internet 2 hours a day, watch movies, listen to music 2 hours a day and also call people 1 hour and send a few text messages. If I do this everyday will I have to charge my battery everyday or will it last longer?
3: Can you install apple apps on HTC desire?
4: What is the average size of an application?

When I go to the storage settings, it says that I have a 1.86gb (2gb) sd card, and only 649MB available on my internal phone storage. Do I have a different version or something? I was told that the Incredible have 8gb of internal phone storage.

The Dinc has a lot of internal memory but what use is it? Most apps do not see media in internal memory. Now with Froyo coming I see some discussions on the ability to install apps to the SD. Why? What are they freeing the space up for? I have a 16GB SD and space isn't really a factor for me. But, isn't internal memory faster than card access? How can I best use that space?

This folder includes screen shots that are used for Internet Browser bookmarks. It also includes screen shots of web pages that I did not choose to bookmark. When I clear cache while in "Internet" in "Manage Applications" it does not remove these jpg files that are not being used for bookmarks. When I clear everything while in Internet app (in settings) it does not remove these jpg files either. It also does not remove them from within the HistoryEraser app. The only way I can remove the jpg files is with Astro or when connected to PC. I have to go through them and erase jpgs that I do not want there.
There were 72 jpg files in that directory and they go all the way back to when I got phone (on 4/29). I have only added 5 bookmarks myself during that time. They do not take up a lot of space but I just don't want them there.

Have you been putting your music, pics, videos, etc., on your SD, or your Internal 8G? I've been putting most on my 8G Class6 SD. Just felt like the phone would continue to run better if that Internal Memory wasn't loaded up? What do you guys think....opinions....?

No idea why, default is set to disk drive, only shows SD card storage on the computer. What am I doing wrong Ok it actually is connecting to both, but the drive for internal memory is saying please insert a disk into (E). I know they are both from the incredible from looking at the 'safely remove hardware' section of the PC and checking the box to display components.

I just got my Droid Incredible a few days ago and am really enjoying it.However, when I use the USB cable to plug in my phone to sync music/movies from my computer (Windows 7, 64 bit), it only recognizes the 2 gig MicroSD card that came with the phone, but not the 8GB Internal Memory. When I plug in the phone, the phone itself asks me if I want to charge or use disk mode and I have it set to disk mode.I can copy to the 2GB MicroSD card with no problems.Tried rebooting the phone and my computer, have all the latest Windows updates, etc.Any idea why my computer isn't seeing the 8GB internal memory? Is there a driver I need to install for it or some other setting on my phone? Can it only see either the microSD card or the Internal memory at one time, so I have to take out the SD card (that would be lame)?

My sitch is this: My HTC Incredible has broken screen and digitizer. Otherwise the phone seems to power up and work. I have all my pictures stored on the internal memory (boo). Is there any way to get to the internal memory given that I can't set the phone to USB Debugging mode? Is there an app that I can install on my pc that will allow me to "press buttons" on the phone? I have installed DroidExplorer and I can see the phone, and the sync works... But thats it.
