HTC Incredible :: Deciding What ROM To Flash?
Nov 30, 2010
I've been flashing ROMs on my Droid since February, and pretty much know exactly what to expect and what I want from those ROMs. But I'm not all that familiar with the DInc's ROMs. Both my mother and my g/f have the DInc and I've been trying to share with them the awesomeness that is rooting.I've already rooted my g/f's and have flashed a couple ROMs. Currently, she's running SkyRaider 3.3. Everything was fine and dandy until she needed her GPS (neither of us really use it, not a whole lot of traveling where we don't know where we're going). Her phone kept constantly rebooting on her while trying to use it, but was fine while not using it. I won't go into detail about how much butt I had chewed off b/c I was the one that talked her into rooting, but suffice it to say, it's time for a new ROM. Mostly, she just wants her phone to function as it should with no lil quirks. The phone is plenty fast as is, but the one major downfall is battery life. I know I've read that some ROMs eliminate the need for bump charging and just get better battery life overall.

The whole idea of the EVO 4G is being able to take advantage of the faster speed for internet/videos/applications etc. Looking at the intended coverage map for the next year or so it doesn't appear the 4G network will cover my home area. While the network will be in the NYC area sooner than later, I only spend 25 hours a week in the city, and when I get home I won't be able to take advantage of the EVO network. It remains to be seen how long it will take Sprint to roll out this network to other cities in the surrounding suburbian areas.Correct me if I'm wrong but, if the device doesn't connect with the 4G network, it defaults to a 3G network? If that's the case, then switching to a device with limited usage for me personally doesn't make sense until they get up and running in more areas, which I imagine will take at least 2 years.

So as the title says I am deciding between the HTC Aria and the Captivate. I would be sold on the Captivate but the issue that everyone seems to be having is the phone shutting itself off. Is this like a really widespread issue or is it just a normal issue with some of the phones. If the chances are high of me getting a phone with that issue I might lean towards the Aria. I like the way both phones are but I dont want to get the Cap if there's a good chance of me getting one with that issue.

I have to return a phone that was previously rooted. I unrooted by flashing the PBIMG file. Now I have a stock rom but I still have S-OFF. I downloaded the S-ON zip file but when I go to Recovery, all I get is an icon of the phone with a red triangle on it. How can I flash the S-ON?
Do I need to Re-root then S-on? If so, could I still reflash the stock rom? What is the proper sequence. Did I lose the recovery module when I went back to stock? I would appreciate any help please.

I noticed yesterday that only the top LED is lighting up when activating my flash while taking a picture. I am running Cyanogen 6 on the phone so I thought it might be some kind of software glitch so I restored back to my Stock + Root image and it still isn't working.
1. Has anyone else had this problem?
2. If I restore back to 100% stock (I haven't updated the radio yet) and bring it into Verizon, is this something they will cover under warranty and give me a new phone?
3. In the event that there are no Incredible immediately available do you think it would be possible to get a Droid X instead?

A long time ago I upgraded to the 2.15 radio. Everything worked great except for one thing. Occasionally (once every 2-3 days) my 3g goes off and I can't turn it back on. I'll toggle airplane mode to no avail. Is there a way I can re flash the 2.15 radio? I wouldn't even mind returning to stock before re-rooting if thats what it takes.

Steve Jobs has just posted a long open letter on flash, listing all the reasons why Apple has decided not to support it on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The letter is a clear, sober, in-depth view in all of Flash?s defects from Apple?s point of view, and while we?re sure it will be dissected over and over in the upcoming days (especially the part about Flash not being open), you have to admire its frankness.
In short, Steve Jobs claims Flash drains the battery of mobile devices; it?s not very good for multi-touch operation, and its performance, reliability and security are all shoddy. It?s also a proprietary system, and while Jobs admits that their mobile OS is also proprietary, he claims that web standards should be open, like HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. Most importantly Apple doesn?t want ?a third party layer of software (to) come between the platform and the developer.? Finally, Jobs concludes, Flash is a relic. ?Flash was created during the PC era ?- for PCs and mice,? he says, ?but the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards ?- all areas where Flash falls short.

The camera flash on the Incredible is killing me, it basically blurs out everything in the picture, especially a face! Anything white in the picture will have not detail or definition when you use the flash to take a picture.

I couldn't see any indication that Flash 10.1 was on my phone after updating using the latest RUU (S-off and rerooted). So I downloaded the APK and tried to install it, and the OS thinks it's there, but will permit neither launching nor uninstalling. I'm sure there might be other info needed, but I would greatly appreciate if someone might have some thoughts about how to resolve this.

I can't be the first person to claim this, but I do think I have become infected by some type of virus or malware. I recently downloaded the new flash player for Android, which I'm told has this new security flaw. Today I noticed for the first time while I was browsing the Internet that it appears as though someone has taken over my browser. They were scrolling up and down, left and right, and even tabbing (sounds like they're on an actual machine) through the various hyperlinks on the page. Later, I was in my gmail app, and the same thing. I opened up an HTML email, and it was scrolling, and tabbing through links in the email. I immediately shut down my phone. I have three anti-virus software apps running, and scanned with all - no issues. Does anyone have a recommendation for what I should do - and what I should be worried about? The first thought that came to mind was log back on and uninstall anything related to Flash / Adobe Reader... however if I'm already infected, does it matter? Should I wipe my HTC incredible? What about the storage card? If they're smart, I assume they put something there since they know most have no idea how to wipe that.

Same base device model, but I am not seeing any mention of Flash in the browser section of the manual. Is this a case where Europe gets a good feature with Desire, but the US will not with Incredible? If so, I would suggest to rename the device Lamedible Android version of Flash 10.1 is still about five months away. Also curious if the opti pad can be used for game control for emulators and then the touch screen could be used for buttons. Just wondering. Need to decide between this and Droid. Droid can be overclocked very stable at 800mhz. Apparently the Incredible is clocked down to 768mhz.

I have a friend with a Nexus One who has gotten 2-3 updates for his Flash Player (that he downloaded from the Market) but we have been stuck with the same flash player and the only way to update is to wait for the APK (from the market) to leak so we can manually install.
Yea, I've manually installed the newest version that's on the market on other devices but It'd be much easier to download it from the market and set it to auto update. Are we eventually going to get a Flash 10.1 app on the market or are we stuck having to manually update?

Just got my Froyo update today. After reviewing the changes vs various web articles and videos online about the changes, I am apparently missing some things. Examples: I didn't get Adobe Flash Player 10.1 and I can't find it in the market to D/L. My Camera does not have the new features.

Anyone else install the latest 2.2 (released 8/1) I believe. I notice now flash is not working even after installing flash showcase. Doesn't bother me being that this is leaked beta just wanted to see if anyone noticed. Can this be moved to the 2.2 ROM area.

I wasn't that excited over Flash 10.1 support since I seen it on the Motorola Droid (hadn't yet seen it on the Nexus One) and just out of curiosity I went to espn.go.com (the nonmobile version) and went to a video..."Tiger Woods tied for first place". I can't believe how good this looks. No lag, no hickups, perfect. It looks the same as it would on my computer.

Trying to figure out what happened today... I was out riding in the car, and ended up looking up the website for Mini Cooper (miniusa.com). Everything worked just fine on the site, though I was a little intrigued by the presence of some loading animations because I haven't (to my knowledge!) done the required degrees of hacking to get Flash working. I thought that was part of Froyo only, and that 2.1 couldn't play Flash.
Imagine my shock when said website was revealed, when I got home, to be flash-based. What the heck happened here?
My phone is rooted and running a Hydra kernel underneath the stock ROM, confirmed by checking my About Phone just now. I definitely haven't installed any app that I'm aware of that would explicitly enable Flash. So how did I do what I did?
