HTC Incredible :: ClockworkMod Restore Deletion?
Aug 29, 2010
I did some searching around but couldn't find any answers; my question is how do you delete the restoration images so you can keep only two or if you find you don't need some of the older ones etc...

I have begun the process of rooting my brand new Incredible, using the instructions at http://www.jonamerica.com/technology/howto-root-the-htc-droid-incredible/.
I have gotten as far as installing the SDK and running unrEVOked. unrEVOked runs without issue, and completes, claiming that it is "Done." However, when the phone reboots, it fails to go into the recovery partition.
If i reboot the phone while holding down the "volume down" and "power" keys, I get a white boot loder menu. If I select the recovery option, the phone scren goes to a white HTC logo,a nd subsequently turns black, leaving to vertical white bars up either side of the screen.
I have tried placing the clockworkmod zip and img files at the root of the SD card and updating the recovery flash using the boot loader, but I continue to get this black screen.

I have the premium rom manager and when I download the latest clockwork mod it says it's downloaded 2.0.2.1 and it will install it and it looks like I'll be running 2.0.2.1. but when I reboot my phone and go back into recovery it will say its 2.0.1.3. do I need to run the revoked tool to get 2.0.2.1 on the phone?

Installed Free & Paid ROM Manager from Market and allowed for Ads (wanna support you guys as much as I can)
1. How do I actually flash a new ROM?
-I think I installed it correctly but would someone mind going over the process?
2. Why do I only see Cyanogenmod? Should their be more? Or is this it?
3. I can simply place any ROM onto the SD card in root and flash through ClockWork, correct?
Side question. How manageable is the overclock/undervolt kernel. Worth putting on? Not 'ready' yet?

I'm following jonamerica's howto in removing bloatware, but when I get to "adb shell", I get "device not found". I've just mounted /system and am in ClockworkMod resovery, with USB connected (USB debug was enabled before I rebooted into recovery, do I need to enable USB debug while in recovery?).On my Windows XP device Manager shows Android Composite ADB Interface.When I type "adb shell", I get "error: device not found". adb devices lists nothing connected.I've searched this forum and googled a lot since bumping into this and haven't found a solution that works.

I've had my INC Rooted and have the old version of ClockworkMOD Recovery since I did it.
I believe i know how to do it,
1) Download http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recover....5.0.1-inc.img
2) DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PHONE
3) Run unrEVOked v3.0
4) Under FILE choose CUSTOM RECOVERY
5) Point to the img file
6) Plug in your phone
What does the new version do that the old one doesnt?
Is it in my best interest to do it?
How do I do it with v3.1?

Had an issue with Rom Manager. Just installed it on my rooted S-off with Cyanogenmod 6 dinc and it is not recognizing that I already have Clockworkmod recovery flashed. It is telling me to do it again, however I have read in a few spots that with S-on it is just fine allow Rom Manager to reflash it but with S-off this could be an issue. If I allow Rom Manager to reflash clockworkmod when I already have it on my phone will it be a problem?

New to the whole rooting thing...
I was able to (i think) root w unrevoked3 and then unrevoked forever. I then installed the leaked 2.2. If I remember correctly, i had to root again after the leak.
Now, when I go to try to remove bloatware, by booting into clockwork and using adb, it wont let me in clockwork mod. I get the battery symbol thing with the exclamation mark.
I have S-off.
Should I re-root, is that the problem? What else could it be?
I also installed ROM manager, and it states that superuser was not found at "/system/xbin/su".
Should I assume that the update killed my root and I need to do it again?

I had 2.1 rooted with S-OFF
I wasn't able to update to 2.2 via OTA so I found an update.zip
I attempted to load the update.zip but it failed
Using [VIDEO] HowTo UnRoot Incredible by downgrading I downgraded to stock 2.1 but for some stupid reason I also disabled unrevoked forever and went to S-ON
I then applied the May OTA update Getting your phone ready for the FroYo update.zip!
Following that I applied the 2.2 update.zip
Here are the versions I'm on:
HBOOT-0.92.0000
RADIO-2.15.00.07.28
Now I'm trying to apply unrevoked3 and it fails
I found 2.1 stock to 2.2 rooted (with links to files)
I tried to downgrade to stock again and I now get this error:
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot the device?
From what I understand I'm unable to downgrade to stock due to having an updated HBOOT
I've found instructions on how to downgrade HBOOT How to revert back to an earlier version of HBOOT but it seems I need clockworkmod to do that
So my question is. Is there a way I can proceed from here or am I stuck waiting for an official root for 2.2?

I successfully rooted yesterday. Installed wireless tether and was going to uninstall some bloatware. When I get to the ClockworkMod Recovery screen, it won't select anything. I can move up and down but when I select it with the power button, it just goes to a blank screen....like your locking the screen. When you hit the power button again, the menu comes back.

I followed this link to root my Incredible Howto: Root the HTC Droid Incredible - Technology - Jonamerica.com
At the point it says to run the "reflash.exe" it says "unable to reflash".
My phone then reboots. I ran it a few times with the same results but the last time it wiped out my personalized scheme.

Just rooted my DInc, trying to install ROMs using ROM Manager v2.5.0.3 but every time I select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" I get an error message stating: "Error while downloading from server. Please make sure that you have a stable internet connection, and that your SD card is inserted and has free space!" I have about 25gb left on the SD card which is most definitely inserted. Plus I have full 3g and have no problem downloading and installing ROM Manager as I reinstalled several times. Any way to fix this or do i have to install ROMs manually?

The great Koush has updated the great ROM Manager App and says that it should greatly reduce "broken" recoveries because recovery will not need to be reflashed every ROM switch or wipe. You can check out article and info here: ROM Manager App gets updated, once again proves its the easiest way to flash a ROM! | WJD Designs. And remember to go buy ROM Manager premium and support Koush

I have a quick question, I'm running the latest FrankenROM with Sense from 8/22/2010 with the stock kernel and the 2.15 radio. How do I install the streaming audio fix? My pandora sounds terrible now. Is it done through adb (if so, can anyone type up the instructions/commands) or do I just put it on the SD card and load it through clockworkmod?

I have problem with deletion sms with messageId=0. I can't delete such a message. There is no problem with deletion other messages but first message taken from inbox has always message Id=0 and I can't delete it. I use code below for deletion.
Uri SMS_CONTENT_URI = Uri.parse("content://sms"); Uri deleteUri = Uri.withAppendedPath(SMS_CONTENT_URI, String.valueOf(smsList.get(currentSmsIndex).getId())); int count = context.getContentResolver().delete(deleteUri, null, null);
Do you have any idea?

The phone will likely be a RZR Maxx or D4.
One of the biggest features that I found missing in Android was the ability to delete mail on handheld only, or handheld and server on a per message basis. (For those not aware, you can set BB to do either automatically, or prompt, which is what I like.)

Is there a software to achive it?
Protection can be secured with a password, pin or whatever.
I tried to find such a program but no luck.

CODE:.............
I'm currently using the above code to create a folder which is used to temporarily store images that the app uses later. deleteDir is just a generic recursive file deletion to empty a directory. Is there a better way to do this than to delete everything? Ideally I just want a temp folder that empties when the application closes.

I notice that my app's data on external storage (i.e. SD card) gets deleted during an "adb install -r". While this is normal for uninstall (and then afterwards install optionally to notice it), I do not understand why this is the case for reinstall (and thus for Market updates as well). I could have sworn this was not always the case.
Referring to http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/data-storage.html#filesExternal I am specifically using "Accessing files on external storage" on Android 2.2, but not "Saving files that should be shared" or "Saving cache files". So I am writing and reading data in "/sdcard/Android/data//files/somefolder/data". My preferences do stick.
@Commonsware: The problem is not so much with getExternalFilesDir() IMHO as I see my data is written where I expect it. It just does not stick. I am using a.o.:
public static File getDefaultDirectory(Context context, String packageName) { File dir;
if(mActivity_getExternalFilesDir!=null){//API >=8
dir = invokeGetExternalFilesDir(context, "fortune");
}else if(mEnvironment_getExternalStorageDirectory!=null){//API <=7
dir = invokeGetExternalStorageDirectory();
dir = new File(dir.getPath() + "/Android/data/" + packageName + "/files/");
}else{ //should never occur return null;
}return dir;
}
