I want to try out 2.2 but when I try to boot into recovery mode (or what it is called) using home + start i get an image where i see a device and a red triangle with a "!" in it.
Running original 2.1 now.

I've tried to do it this way: *** How To PARTITION SDCard *** - Android @ MoDaCo but my phone won't boot to the recovery screen for some reason, all I get is an image of a phone with an exclamation mark. When I turn my phone off and try to boot into recovery mode by holding down the Home and Power buttons, I get a picture of a phone with a little red exclamation point beside it that will not go away. I eventually had to take the battery out of the back of it to get it to go away. Put the battery back in and it works fine but I would really like to install that Rom.
I have a Sprint Hero that I have rooted and in trying to do a Nandroid backup have found myself unable to get to recovery mode. I hold Home, hit power and the system hangs on the initial HTC screen until I remove the battery. After that the phone will boot into the regular OS just fine.
Now I am kinda stuck here, without recovery mode I can't even restore my phone back to stock can I? It's not urgent since my phone works normally otherwise.
Today my phone started continuously re-booting itself. Only gets to the HTC screen and then re-boots. I have done multiple battery pulls with no results. I cannot boot into recovery either, tried that many times as well. My only option is a screen that I have not seen before that asks if I want to clear all data and then reset the device.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI try to understand android boot sequence on my JB (under CM10). I found some docs and there should be specific partitions (boot, recovery, system, cache, data).
My understanding of the boot sequence is now:
A) normal boot:
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) boot-partition where i flashed the kernel aka boot.img ->
4a) system-partition with the OS (libs, UI, etc) where i unpacked over CWM my customROM.zip ->
4b) data-partition, where i unpacked google-apps.zip and installed all the apps ->
4c) cache-partition with user data
B) recovery boot (adb reboot recovery):
1) Power ON ->
2) bootloader ->
3) recovery-partition with CWM where i may unpack all the .zip stuff to proper partitions, or restore from sdcard, etc.
Is this correct? I wonder, because i didn't installed CWM into recovery-partition. It cames from install of CM10 (fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img), so it must be in boot-partition and not in recovery?
So, next confusion: i looked up to /proc/mtd and i don't see neither boot nor recovery partition here:

So, i think i didn't understand the boot sequence and partition schema corectly.
ok, so I put the PB31IMG file on my sdcard, and the dinc_ota. I changed dinc_ota to update. (I did not name the file update.zip.zip) I powered down, I entered bootloader, and it loaded the PB31IMG and whatever. then I hit volume down and selected recovery. this brought me to clockwork recovery. I noticed the isntructions said to boot into STOCK recovery. well, I like a dummy ignored that and tried to apply the update.zip thru clockwork.

So, is this because I tried doing it through clockwork recovery? is it because I didn't apply the first OTA update we got? what does that mean exactly anyways? is it saying I need to install the leaked froyo ROM, and then update the radio? How do I boot into stock recovery and not clockworks recovery? does this count as applying the update.zip once, meening if I do it again I'll brick my phone? should I sell this thing and get a samsung flip phone because I'm too stupid to own a Dinc?
I tried installing Tranquility and must have screwed something up because now my phone won't boot past the Motorola Logo. It's been sitting here like this for about 15min and I can't even boot into recovery by holding the power and home buttons. I don't know what else to do now. Idk if my phone is bricked but even if it is don't I need the SBF file to unbrick it and I can't find that file any where. I did a nand backup or whatever before doing any of this so hopefully that can help me. What should I do now?

I am looking for a way to get my wifi to start on boot. I hate going to the settings every time especially when some programs start searching for the connection automatically. I didn't know if there was a setting or an app to get it going.

I have written a class which extends the Service class of android and would like to launch the service during device boot-up. From the service I would like to receive the intents such as boot completed and screen off and on. Currently I am using a BroadcastReceiver to get the boot completed intent and then on starting a service to receive screen on and off intents. But I would like to remove either the broadcast receiver or the service. Any inputs.

View 1 Replies View RelatedUnfortunately, I've had to uninstall several apps that I liked because they force start on boot and my Droid was becoming completely laggy because of too many apps starting on boot. I understand that some apps/widgets need to start on boot, but others its completely unnecessary. At a minimum, make an option in settings to let the user decide if we want it to start on boot up.
I just uninstalled Note Everything, Estrong File manager and Weatherbug because they were starting on boot. I love MixZing and I am kind of annoyed that it starts on boot, but its an app I "need" so I can't uninstall it. I'll probably email all these devs and ask about giving the option not to start on boot.
Is there way to control which applications/services start when the phone boots? Every now and then, the voice control, moxie mailer, etc will be running when I don't use them, need them, or want them to run. I'd like to be able to control which items are running in the background, much like an 'msconfig' in Windows.

Really want to be able to make this work, because my battery drains from full to empty in a couple of hours, so wanting to reflash opefire or try cynagonmod to see if that could help my problems.
How do I enable this again? (have tryed to install recovery from rom manager, says success, but cant start in recovery afterall) have clockworkmod 2.5.0.1 now.
Have tested volume down+power, backbutton+power, and restarting the phone in bootloader and recovery, nothing happends.
I rooted my One X a while back and it has been fine and only now I decided to install a ROM.
I went for Cyanogenmod 9 and followed the instructions to install it on my phone.
IT went smoothly and runs okay as far as I can tell apart from Recovery Mode.
Everytime I go to boot into recovery it just starts the phone as usual. It doesn't get stuck on the boot screen or anything, it starts just like normal but it doesn't start in recovery!
I have tried doing to through the Power + Volume Down method and through CLockworkMod app, no luck.
I have also tried to reflash Recovry but it still doesn't start.
I make root at one LG e510, after I put Rom manager and install custom recovery clockworkmod recovery. Everything fine till here, but after try to acces recovery, spears only stock recovery and not custom recovery.

Comes with the great multi window feature, however every time I restart the phone I have to go into settings, uncheck and recheck the box for Multi Window for it to start running.
My phone has just presented with the above problem. When I switch it on it won't boot passed the start up screen with the big 'S' and 'Samsung Galaxy S II' below it.

However, I want to implement a user setting for automatically starting the service up at boot time. I have user settings implemented with SharedPreferences and I have the services starting up at boot by using a BroadcastReceiver and listening for BOOT_COMPLETED. However, I can't figure out a good way to implement a setting so that the service is only started at boot if said setting is enabled. I can think of a few cheap ways to do this (such as messing with onCreate() in the service, or creating/checking for a file on SD card) but I want to follow good practice. There must be a good way to do this because there's tons of apps out there that do it, I just can't find anything online about how to do it.

I know there are a few "startup manager" apps that allow to modify startup behaviour, but most of them require root access and moreover they also require auto start at boot permission to work.
I'd just like a way to figure out which of my apps have that permission so I can decide which is worth keeping and which to uninstall.
I reflashed back to stock recovery to try a different rom and now I can't seem to boot into recovery. I was using velocity 0.2 with the JIT OC kernel and rom manager using the clockwork mod recovery. after flashing back to VS740ZV6_01 and rerooting and reapplying the clockwork mod recovery I cant seem to load any new roms or backups because the phone hangs at lg screen on reboot. have to pull the battery and it will then reboot normally but no recovery. also trying to hard reset results in hanging at lg screen. in addition, market app is missing.

I tried installing CWM recovery found here: URL....I tried with odin 3.07 and 1.85Every time, odin shows success, but when trying to boot into recovery, the phone gets stuck at "recovery booting...."The phone is otherwise working...getting CWM to work? how can I return to stock recovery at least?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I just got my S4 rooted and everything seems correct. I then installed Rom Manager so I could start demoing some of the ROMs out there. Went through all the steps to flash Rom manager as the recovery but I cannot get my recovery to go to CWM, it just keeps going to the stock android recovery. I have googled the crap out of this and am coming up with nothing. in fact I have written several android apps but this just does not work.
