Android :: Audio Output Analysis (Microphones)

Jan 17, 2010

I was playing around with some of the live wallpapers and thought it'd be neat to try to make something like the frequency/waveform visualization wallpapers, but I'm not sure there's an API to get the audio output data from the device. I know you can use AudioRecords to get this sort of data from microphones. Anyone know if there's a way to manage it for a device's output?

Media :: Possible To Record Audio / Video WHILE Playing Music?

Aug 11, 2010

i'm big into freestyling. i have over 1500 instrumentals on my phone.i can't figure out how to play them and record myself (either audio or video) at the same time.i figure i'm either gonna have to download a new music player that won't close or a video/audio recorder that won't close the "Music" player that came with my evo.and before anyone goes tryin to be smart, i realize that even if i was able to accomplish such an action the quality would probably be really low due to speaker and mic being so close.my intent is more of a "on the fly lyric composition" rather than a " put myself on youtube to show everyone how awesome i am"

HTC EVO 4G :: Audio Quality (Worse) On Video Recordings

May 28, 2010

I've been trying to digest every possible piece of information I can on the Evo, and have been very anxious to get one on June 4th. But something I'm finding very little info or comments on is how terrible the audio quality is on video recordings. It's surprisingly very bad. The video quality is looking good, but that makes the bad audio just that much worse. I've noticed this on every sample video I've checked out on You Tube. It seems that it is slightly better on the Incredible, but still pretty sub-par. If you watch video recorded from the Motorola Droid or iPhone, you can hear what a difference it is. Is this just a HTC thing, or is it something that can be adjusted?

HTC EVO 4G :: Audio Quality Jerky When Taking Video

Jul 6, 2010

Frankly, I'm fine with the video quality. It could be a lot better but I don't use my phone for anything serious. The audio quality is horrid. I pulled a video into MediaCoder to find out why. That is 12.8kbps at 8,000hz sampling rate. To put this in perspective; A low quality MP3 is 64kbps at 44.1khz (44,100hz). That is 5 times the bit rate and more than 5 times the sampling rate.

A decent quality MP3 is at the very least 128kbps. The audio that the Evo camcorder app is 1/5th the quality of a crappy MP3. This is a rather simple software fix. I'm not a programmer but I know how audio and video codecs work and I see no reason for this limitation. The phone can record excellent quality audio. Just download a recording app and try it. HTC or a third party developer needs to get on this. The reason the video is a bit jerky is that it is recorded at 10.01 FPS...

Android :: Media Recorder Class To Record Audio / Permission Denied

Jun 4, 2010

I'm new in Android development and I have the next question/problem. I'm playing around with the Media Recorder class to record just audio from the microphone. I'm following the steps indicated in the official ://developer.android.com/reference/android/media/MediaRecorder.html
So I have a method that initializes and configure the Media Recorder object in order to start recording. Here you have the code:
//initializes audio recorder
//configure the input sources
mrecorder.setAudioSource(MediaRecorder.AudioSource.MIC);
//set the output format
mrecorder.setOutputFormat(MediaRecorder.OutputFormat.THREE_GPP);
//set the audio encoding
mrecorder.setAudioEncoder(MediaRecorder.AudioEncoder.DEFAULT)

Android :: How To Record Audio From Mic In Raw Pcm Format Into A Buffer Using Native Libraries Directly

Oct 9, 2009

My application cannot handle the JNIE overhead, as I need to make 2 JNIE calls to the native C/C++ code for every 20msec. So I am trying to use the native media libraries and the realted C/C++ files provided by Android in the folder "//external/srec/audio/test" of the donut build. Ex. AudioHardwareRecord, AudioInRecord etc.. I am implementing all the calls in the native layer.

I am using the sampling rate as 8000 and want to read 160 samples (320 bytes) at a time.

I used the following values to create the AudioRecord..

CODE:..........

It says "success" after creating this interface but I am getting the error "Bad Value" if I am doing the InitCheck.

And it is crashing once I start reading the samples or if I try to retrieve the configured sampling rate.

Has anybody tried to access this native code?

I am dying to know if it's firmware or just cheap hardware, not to sound bitter but the iphone has a SUPER high quality mic being that Incredible just came out I was very surprised at the low quality of the audio recording
