HTC EVO 4G :: Incorrect Date / Time On Text Messages
Jul 16, 2010
For the past couple of weeks, I have been having problems with text messages on the Evo.For example, last night, I was sending texts to a friend, who replied back. His message said that it arrived on July 21, 2010 at 955pm.Clearly its not July 21, 2010, and when I sent/received the message, it was 630pm CST.I'm confused what is going on. Went to Sprint to have them look at it, they figured out the phone came from Best buy and wanted nothing to do with it, So, I'm here looking for answers.

incoming text messages are all showing up sent 5-10 minutes BEFORE the time it was actually sent so it totally ruins convos on my moment.. Ive tried setting the time and using 'automatic' network time.. Someone please tell me how to fix this its driving me insane as I always have to scroll back up and it ruins conversation continuity.

I just wanted to pass this along; You can take it for a grain of salt, but I came away impressed. I decided to make a call to HTC (the number is on their page, if you go to Support and "Hotline" the number is there) to discuss a few of the hardware/software issues that I, as well as others on the board have been experiencing. First off, my wait time was about 3 minutes. Very short, so that was a good start. I spoke to a representative named Jonathan (a woman). The topics I asked about:
1. Why Gmail messages do not show up in the "People" application under the contact's card who sent the email.
2. Some questions that I had about managing memory and the best way to exit a program.
3. The clock widget displaying incorrect time, and the new issue that appeared with the clock today (possibly brought about by some DST error).
4. What happens when you "Clear Data" from the RAM using the "Manage Application" menu.
I began the conversation, which lasted about 40 minutes, asking about the Gmail issue (#1) as that was my biggest query, but added on the others as the conversation went on. She did not know exactly what I was talking about, as she hadn't heard that complaint before. Instead of just saying, "uhhhh, yea, I don't know what to say" or try to spout off some half-assed solution only to get me off the phone, she actually took the time to look in some of their documentation, and when coming up empty, grabbed a new phone, set it up and tried to replicate the issue. At no point in our conversation did she sound like she was saying stuff just to "get by" or end the call. She actually sounded as if she cared......

Just wondering if anyone else was having this issue or may know what could be causing it. Recently all my alerts in the notification area have their times off by 5 hours. For example it is now 8:22PM my time, if I were to get a text message now the alert would have a time of 3:22PM. The other strange thing about it is that when I view the text message inside the text messaging application the time is correct. I just noticed this problem the other day, but it's possible it began when I updated to 2.2 the earlier in the week. Any ideas?

Which one should I use java.util.Date or android.text.format.Time? It seems you can accomplish what one needs to do with either. What I need to do is at times get the current date and time and sometimes set a date and time specified by the user.

If someone texts you late at night and your phone is off, when you turn your phone on the next morning you get the text and the date and time shows the time you boot up your phone. You would think it would have the actual date and time the peson sent the message. Am I missing something?

I've searched this out a bit and only found a rough answer on the old Hero forum, so wanted to make sure there isn't a more updated answer with the Incredible.I'm using the stock messaging app included with the phone. I noticed very quickly that any text messages that were sent to me while the phone was off or in airplane mode obviously wouldn't come through to the phone until I turned it back on or took it out of airplane mode. This is normal, but I realized the text messages that come through once I power on the phone show only the time I received them at, not the ACTUAL time the person sent it out to me.On all my old phones I could see when the person actually sent the messsage. Is there a way to get this information on the Incredible, or do I need to download a different text app to view this?

So every text message I receive is time-stamped for exactly one hour ahead of when it is actually received. However, all of my sent messages show the correct time. This is causing the order in which the messages are displayed to be incorrect, which can be confusing.I am in the US Central time zone, and so are all the people I have been messaging so far.

I recently received an LG optimus f3 with android 4.1.2.
After activating the phone, it displayed the correct date and time for my time zone, so I didn't mess around with settings to reset the time, as I would with any other device.
However, I've noticed that the time changes to exactly an hour ahead, before changing itself back several minutes later.
I went to settings > date and time, but 24 hour time and selecting a date format are the only options listed.
I prefer to leave mobile data off when I am at home and can use the wi-fi. Is it necessary to have mobile data turned on, so the phone can receive the time from a cell tower, or is there a way I can set an internal clock?

First time poster and long time reader. First off I got the Captivate today and love it. I had the Aria and took it back and got this today. I just have a couple of questions. I will list them so it doesn't get confusing.
1. I saw in a few reviews that the battery has standby time of over a month and is generally very good and is a big part of why I bought the phone. That being said, since a full charge at 2:00pm, I am currently (9:00pm) in the yellow on my battery with normal use (ie minimal web browsing, 4 phone calls all under 2 minutes, about 10 total texts and 3 downloaded apps, and just browsing the phones features all while having a task manager). Should I just charge it after a few days and see where I am at?
2. My house usually gives me a pretty good signal but for some reason, I only have 1-2 bars in most of the areas. However, I seem to still be able to do things such as make phone calls with no bars. As for the "death grip", I also have held the phone with a case on it and the signal diminished very quickly which concerns me. A steady 2-3 bars I would be fine with, but 1 bar is unacceptable.
3. Timestamps on text messages are wrong just like they were on the Aria. It is a minor thing but it bugs the hell out of me.
Overall the phone is awesome but I buy a phone for two reasons, number one it has to be a good phone (call quality and reception) and number two it must have an above average battery (7 hours with minimal usage concerns me). I hope I am just overreacting but these are issues I think should be talked about.

Is there any android widget that enable to pick the date and the time at the same time ? I already use the basic date picker and date picker:
http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/views/hello-timepicker.html
http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/views/hello-datepicker.html
but they are not that sexy and user friendly (I found). Do you know if a widget including both date and time exists? Thanks a lot,WW.

Is there an app that anyone knows about to make the scroll go continuously around. For example when you get to 59 minutes the next number is 0 instead of stopping and having to back track all the way through all the numbers.

Newbie here. I am very serious about getting the new Spring hero. As an airline pilot traveling outside the US I have a question as to the GPS function. When I turn on the phone in another country to use the GPS function how do I update the date and time and approx location so the gps knows what sats to look for? If I don't have phone/network coverage, and I probably won't how will or update?

Having just switch from BlackBerry, one of the things I am missing is text shortcuts. With BlackBerry there were several pre-programmed phrases that could be entered by typing a couple of letters. For example "ld" would enter the date in the specified long date format. The user could add to the dictionary just about anything they wanted.
Any Android app that will do the same thing?

I have a strange problem when parsing a ISO8601 date and time with SimpleDateFormat.
The relevant code is:
CODE:........
For input I'm giving it a string
2010-09-06T15:30:00+02:00
And as a return I get a Date object with date set to 6th of January 2010 with time of 13:30 and timezone of GMT+00:00.
I also tried using "2010-09-06T15:30:00+0200" with same results.
Confusing thing is, that the date set is partially correct, just the month is set wrongly.
The issue is shown on Android 1.6 and Android 2.2.

Can this be done? I have tried other programs but they only seem to allow me change the name of the icon. I tried using any cut and also Launcher.

By any means, programmatically can I get the install date & time of the already installed apps on the android device. The ApplicationInfo doesn't provide this info. While digging through the /data folder through the DDMS perspective, I saw the installed apk's do contains the Date & time of when it was installed, but the sad part is that this /data folder is not accessible on the device programmatically.

On my Palm Treo 680, I was able to type a keyboard shortcut or macro to put in the current date and time in a string of text.On the Palm, I typed ".dts" and it returned a macro of "@@ds @@ts", which then returned the current date and time, using ShortCut5 in Prefs. Even on the PC, I use "zds" to return a similar date and time stream - this is using "autoworkers" - 28/6/2010 2:21 PM.Is there some sort of keyboard macro or auto text or shortcut method to do this with the HTC Desire ?(I will probably be asking a lot of "on the Palm Treo 680 I could, how do I on HTC Desire" questions, as I migrate to my new device. Please bear with me)
