HTC EVO 4G : Cannot Kill Voicemail App Since 2.2 / Way To Do?
Aug 4, 2010
I'm using Advanced Task Killer. Every time I open it, it shows "Voicemail". It lets me kill it but when I close ATK and reopen it, Voicemail is back.
Running 2.1 ATK would keep all my task nice and dead until I needed them. Any ideas?

I have the startup auditor and Task Panel apps. I want to try and setup the phone to always have as much memory available as possible. Most of them are pretty obvious but there are a few I'm not sure of. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of services/processes/etc. that we can safely kill off and/or set for auto-kill/disable at startup? Edit: One I was curious about is Google Partner Setup. I have killed it off without any issues through Task Panel. But would having it on the auto-kill list be OK?

I got the Droid yesterday, and I'm trying to use Google Voice *just* for voicemail. However, it seems like I never get notifications about new voicemail, unless the app is open. Also, recorded voicemail is very soft when it's played back, almost too soft to hear.

After searching, I was unable to find any post that deals with my particular problem, and I don't know if it's a problem or something I have to deal with. On my LG Eve (unlocked, not yet rooted), when I run Task killer, I notice that there are two items in the list that look like configuration files (window with a gear in front of it):
com.tni.Task killer:Captain Obviously, the first one is linked to Task killer and if I kill the configuration file, it kills the Task killer process. When I try to kill beware.com, though, it does nothing. The file remains in the list and is also visible in the Task killer widget. (Speaking of the widget, when I kill Task killer, the icon for the 2 configuration files usually remain, even if I auto kill everything.) Doing a little searching on the tubes, I found that beware.com are the developer for Quick Settings. I don't think I downloaded that app yet, but I might have and subsequently deleted it. Is it possible that the configuration file remains after I un install an app? If so, how do I remove that con fig file?

I started a sample application and called finish() method when user clicks the button. Then it is showing the android home screen and called the on Destroy() method also. But if i am executing the 'ps' command in android shell still it is showing the dip of my application. What is the meaning of finish()? Is it not terminate the process? if not how can i terminate the process(we can do kill -9 pid in android shell but i want programmatic approach).

I sign and open the box and it is my purple cell case from verizon! So I think I will just play with the case and its Inc insert for two days.
I got the hard plastic case. The color is great (for those of you who are purple fans ) and matches my Coach bag wonderfully. It is slim and sleek and nice and light. I am hoping it looks okay with the red backing of the Inc.

If you leave GPS switched on, and don't use any GPS apps, would it consume the same battery as with it off. Becasue it only activates itself when a GPS using program is on which means it wouldn't kill the battery?
Anyone tested this out?

So after much playful hours with my hero, i was wondering if there was an app out there that would auto kill any apps that we can select whenever we turn on our phones? i really don't mind opening up advanced task killer after every boot, it's just it would be more convenient to kill it at the start.
Any recommended apps? or if there isn't, maybe a developer would like to take this idea

Is there a way to kill widgets, apps, and sense for that matter, for a period of time then have a way to restart them. For example I go to an amusement park and want to make sure i get the whole day out of the phone w/o recharge, can i kill all the widgets etc and just leave it as a "phone" with calling in/out and SMS / MMS stuff, maybe browser, then turn it all back on at the end of the day with out having to start each thing individually?

I am currently writing a program to kill processes that the users choose to end. From the log Cat, I notice that a Signal 9 has been sent to the application but the process is still running. I am only able to kill my own process through the code below. I understand that the kernel only allow killing of processes that have some relation to my program, but how do I kill other processes other than my own?
Below is my code: android.os.Process.killProcess(processID);

I cannot leave it running in the background as it kills my battery. is there another app that is a good IM program that is more gentle on the battery and allows the phone to sleep? I cannot understand why developers don't allow the phone to go into a sleep state, using IM to wake it up and reactivate the IM application, much like PDAApps Verichat used to do.

I am looking for an app that kills tasks that are running on a schedule. To be able to choose how often it kills the tasks, 5 or 15 or 30 minutes. So I can have the app running and know that every lets say 15 minutes it kills the tasks that I selected to always be killed I would prefer this method over screen blank apps that kill tasks.

I am sorry if this is something that already was talked about. However i didnt find a good thread about this so i am going to start a new one.I was told by one geek that i know (trust me, a big big geek) that Android OS learns what apps you use and which you dont. It takes time (1-2 weeks) of normal usage though.I also found this article. Why You Shouldn't Be Using a Task Killer with Android Geek For Me - Android CDMA Sprint Hero. Now I uninstalled ATK and seeing if the phones performance will be affected in the long run. I have a feeling that the first several days will be pretty slow, but i bed it will get better. What do you think? My buddy has been using his Eris w/out ATK for a week now and everything is smooth and quick.

So I am on my 2nd kernel now other than stock. I tried netarchy .18 and currently using kings 9 bfs. I am running stock rooted froyo. The stock kernel gave me the best battery, both netarchy and kings kernels have given better performance. Is there a best of both worlds, i.e. a kernel that gives better performance over stock AND better battery life? With the netarchy kernel I used 25 percent of my battery in 2 hours from a full charge. So far with kings I have used 10 percent in 30 minutes from full charge! This compared to stock which was 90 percent over 20 hours. Any ideas or suggestions?

Now, there's only Activity 2.
How does Activity 2 kill the Service, since that Intent was generated in Activity 1? I don't want to pass the Intent everywhere...
