HTC Droid Eris :: Upgrade Syncing And Too Many Contacts Deletes
May 15, 2010
I upgraded last night to 2.1 and while I'm annoyed at the superficial loss of settings, what is really annoying me is the automatic sync to google. I don't need my phone to sync my contacts, in fact I'd prefer that it did not.
So, in Settings - Accounts & sync, I unchecked Auto-sync. But I am getting that annoying message in the notification bar all the time that says "Too many Contacts deletes"

This is terrible, I do the upgrade, and now I have 2 contacts in my phone. Not to mention 'people' is not anywhere to be found. Where is the contact book now?

So I just got my Droid Eris and sync with my gmail account. But now there is this constant message in my Notifications bar saying "Too many contacts deletes" and my only options are to:
Delete Items
Undo the Deletes
Do nothing for now
No matter which option I choose, the message comes back into my notifications.
I think what's happening is every time I send/receive and email, Gmail automatically saves the address to my contacts. Then it sends this new email address to the Contact list on my phone. And of course I delete it off my Contact list in my phone because I don't need it.
Verizon sales guy said I have to go into my gmail account setting and change it so that it stops saving every sent/received email address. I can't find this in my gmail settings and Google Help isn't helping
How do I get rid of this notification once and for all! Is there any way I can stop automatically saving EVERY SINGLE email address I send/receive to my PHONE? How do I keep these two Contact lists separate?

When I got my phone replaced the guy at the verizon store didn't wait long enough for my phone to sync contacts, so he took the contacts from the old phone and put them on my new one, then google synced my contacts so I had 2 of them all. I went through and deleted all the doubles, tried to sync a few times and gmail wouldn't change, so I went to gmail and merged all the doubles so everything was perfect, but my phone wouldn't sync the contacts from gmail. So finally I just manually added the ones I needed to my phone.
A few days later gmail finally updated and now has half my normal contacts(only what was on my phone). I saved a backup of my old contacts from gmail, so I can get all my contacts back on my gmail account, but how do i make it so my phone get the contacts from gmail? Basically I want to delete all the contacts on my phone and save the ones from gmail on it, but it seems that the phone is "in charge" by that I mean gmail copys what contacts are in the phone, instead of the phone copying from gmail.

When I try to sync my contacts with Google it always says an error with sync, something like sync is down. My calendar syncs fine but my contacts have never been able to sync since I had my phone in November.

I can't stand the fact that the Facebook app automatically adds my Facebook friends to my contact list, but they don't show up when I open the People icon, only when I'm choosing the contacts to send or forward a text to.I want to be able to sync the contacts I have with their Facebook profile, but I don't want Facebook automatically adding contacts to my phone. And I can't just diasble auto-sync because there are programs that apparently need it running. The only other option I can think of is to completely remove Facebook from my phone and that's bullsh*t.I know it sounds confusing, but does anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? It woulddn't be such a problem, but now when I go to pick my contacts to forwards to, I have hundreds of contacts instead of the 95 or so I had before.

Go to menu>settings>applications>manage applications>contacts storage and then delete the data. I backed up my Google contacts on line first by exporting the file just in case. (Not a bad idea anyway, this way you'll have an Excel database with all your contact in case anything should ever happen to your phone). Then resync. It will all go back in without a problem.
I noticed that the file is about 1/2 the size now and I think that's because I didn't sync up all the Facebook data back yet (no photos matching to people, etc.). but I think I'll make sure it all syncs continuously again first, then try adding back in the Facebook info. So far two of the problems were solved by deleting old data (I didn't want to do a factory reset after getting 2.1 just where I wanted it except for the few glitches).

I have a long list of Google Contacts and only want to sync a subset of them to my Droid Eris. So, I created a "Phone" group in Google Contacts. Then on my Droid Eris (back when it was running 1.6) I was able to go "People" -> "Groups" -> "Menu" (or something like that) and select the "Phone" group as the only group from Google Contacts that would sync with my Droid Eris. Worked perfectly.
Now, after the 2.1 update I no longer have that option! I thought, "Maybe the option controls migrated somewhere else." I tried going "Menu" -> "Settings" -> "Accounts & Sync" -> "Google" and found nothing there as well. How can I just sync the "Phone" group from my Google Contacts with my Droid Eris which is now running 2.1?

I decided I wanted to delete my gmail account on my Droid Eris and add my primary gmail account. ex. went into managae apps and cleared data for account1 @gmail .com, then I reset up my phone with account2 @gmail.com. I just realized by clearing data, I deleted all of my contacts off of my phone. Luckily I went online and checked account1@gmail.com to see that all of my contacts were still there. How do I get them back onto my phone? Do I need to transfer the contacts from this account to account2@gmail.com? And how do I transfer them? Simply, how do I get my contacts into account2, my primary gmail account on my droid eris, and also back onto the phone?

On my Droid Eris (just updated to Android 2.1), I have taken advantage of 2.1 offering support for multiple Gmail accounts. So I have 3 Gmail Accounts in the Gmail app. My question pertains to how Android syncs the contact lists (which include many of the same contacts) from these 3 separate accounts. Will I end up with dozens of duplicate contacts? If so, is there a workaround? Also, is there an easier way to switch between different Gmail accounts? E.g., in the Gmail app, you have to go to Menu then Accounts, which is inefficient. The built-in mail app displays a list of accounts when you open it (an ideal approach), but I would prefer to not open my Gmail accounts in the default mail app.

So if you retrieve email via POP, then delete the email from your inbox, and lastly delete your email from your trash... it bloody deletes it on the server (yes I have the delete mail on server UNCHECKED).

So when I got my Hero I had my contacts transferred to my phone at Sprint. Then when I signed into my gmail on my phone it added all my contacts again, giving me two of each contact.I tried to delete them and I did too many at one time. Now in my notification bar, every few minutes a message pops up and tells me "too many contacts deleted, what do you want to do? 1. Delete the items, 2. Undo the deletes, or 3. Do nothing for now. No matter what I do, nothing happens and the message comes up again 10 minutes later. Also, When I plug my phone into my computer with the cord provided, the USB connect symbol does not come up. I want to get music, pictures and files on and off of my phone. Any thoughts?

If i create a new contact and then I synchronize my contact with my Gmail account (which actually doesn't contains any contact) I supposed to have the new contact also on my Gmail account, but that's not the case. The synchronization DELETES my contact on the phone. What's the problem? Am I doing something wrong?

I seem to be having a sync issue with my Droid. When I add a contact to my phone, it doesn't sync into "My contacts" in Gmail; it'll sync into "All contacts". So, a couple of questions:
1) How can I get the phone to add new contacts created on my Droid into "My contacts" in Gmail?
2) I'm trying to understand the point of "All contacts". Why does Gmail want to keep a list of anyone that I've ever sent an email to? Otherwise, it'll be simple enough to just merge the two groups and call it a day.(Note: When I bought my Droid I did NOT have the VZW sales person transfer my contacts or any data from my old Blackberry to my Droid. I used Google Sync on my BB and synced my contacts from my BB to Gmail, then when I got the Droid, it automatically pulled my contacts from Gmail.)(FWIW, yes, I did a search and found two great threads: http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting/15042-how-do-i-push-droid-contacts-back-gmails-my-contacts.html and http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/15069-contacts-dont-really-synchronize.html but I have a different situation than most of those guys and I'd actually prefer to sift through and merge a couple of contacts from "All contacts" to "My contacts" every once in a while than deal with a backup and factory reset.)

my google calendar and my gmail sync fine, but contacts gets the spinning wheel that never stops. Is there any way to fix this without rebooting and wiping everything off of my phone? How do you even reboot anyway? Other than this issue (I'm on 2.1, not rooted or anything) everything on the phone works just fine.

When I logoff Skype it deletes a random contact in my contact data. Does not happen every time but it happens enough to be a real pain. I have been monitoring this for about 3 weeks now. This is the only time I lose contacts. I always go to People - Menu - View before I logoff Skype to see how many contacts I have. It is so frustrating to see the number drop after I logoff Skype. Does anyone else have this problem? I feel it has to be a bug in the Skype application. I do see in Manage applications - Skype Mobile - Permissions that the application can read and write contact data. This supports what I am seeing. How do I go about getting this problem resolved?

And google has best email while facebook has picture and date of birth. Is there something that will allow me to combine these? how did you go about forming the best contact list?

I'm having some issues with the Gmail after upgrading my DINC to Froyo using the Leaked RUU. On 2.1, the second I got an email, it showed up in my Gmail inbox (no notification, but that wasn't a big deal, i just manually checked it) anyway, now its not doing that, and I have to manually refresh Gmail, which is annoying. Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know how to get around it?

I have over a hundred contacts on my phone and when I go to gmail on my pc it does not have any of my contacts. Am I doing something wrong, or was I misinformed?

I synched with my Gmail account but it has synched "All Contacts" instead of "My Contacts" "All Contacts" includes, in addition to the contacts in "My Contacts" a bunch of emails from people that I may get email from and have emailed frequently but don't want stored in my phone. Is there anyway to synch only to a "My Contacts" or any group?

My google contacts do not seem to be syncing. The contacts I enter on the android that are new do not show up in my gmail account under contacts. I figured this out the hard way when 2 new numbers did not show up after a clean wipe a week ago. Only the 2 new ones were missing and the starred in android doesn't show accurate contacts, missing 4 that are in my main contact section but starred in the phone by me.

I've read the constant threads where people say, just find the friend on facebook, hold press their icon and it will do whatever. doesnt work at all, the only thing happens is if i quick press i get the chooser to email them, or view their facebook profile. what im trying to do is manually sync a contact on my phone with a facebook contact. on my friends droid eris he can open up a phone contact, hit edit and actually has a field for him to type my facebook name in and it will sync. there anyway to do this? im tired of only having like 10 peoples profiles actually syncing with my phone contacts and another 100 not synced..

After I installed and evaluated the Companionlink software for syncing Outlook contacts, calendar, tasks and notes to my Droid, I noticed the gmail contacts were no longer syncing via the gmail sync. However, the gmail calendar and mail were not affected. I uninstalled all of the Companionlink stuff but the contacts still do not sync. Anyone know how I can get the contacts to sync via gmail again? Short of "reset user data on phone"?
