HTC Desire :: Way To Do Nandroid Backup?
Oct 23, 2010
I have titanium backup, but what is nandroid and if i need to re-install both what do each do in the way of backups? main reason i ask is because my phone went into a boot-loop again today. its ok now but if i need to flash the rom to get it working another time id like to have a backup of passwords and settings for email and facebook accounts to save the hassle of putting in again.

Now following the nandroid backup my desire just keeps rebooted? I've read that restoring the nandroid cures the loop, so its restoring as we speak. Please tell me this is a normal occurance.

Forgive me if this has been answered already, I didn't really know how to search for this... But today I tried to do a Nandroid Backup and when I did it said "error: Run 'nandroid-mobile.sh' via adb!" But I've previously been able to just click Nandroid Backup and it will backup my phone..

I had to get a replacement phone. New phone came with 2.2, so obviously I need to root it. But my question is, can I make a nan backup of my old phone, and once my new phone is rooted restore to my old phones backup?
I have heard that a nandroid backup is saved in seperate folders depending on your phones serial number. I'm not sure how true that is. Someone said that I would have to make a nan backup on the new phone so it creates a seperate folder, and then copy my old backup into the new folder, and restore.

I have CWM Touch Recovery v6.0.3.1. A couple of hours ago, I made a NANDroid backup before flashin a new ROM. When I attempted to use NANDroid backup manager to restore my apps and data, the app said I had no apps in the backup. Upon reviewing the files CWM created, I discovered that it created several data.ext4.tar files. Is there a way to combine these so I can use the Nandroid backup manager to restore my apps. I've managed to restore call logs, text messages and wifi data but my apps are important too.
I do realize I could probably use CWM for restoring but I want to restore specific apps and not the data. (I.e the recently updated hotmail app) Plus, restoring with CWM flashes data that is incompatible with the new ROM.

So I've rooted my phone but I want to install a custom ROM. I've read that I need (and I definitely want) to create a nandroid backup. The only problem is I have no idea how. I have ROM Manager installed. I read I need to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery so I did that. However, when I try to reboot into recovery either through Rom Manager or just holding volume down and power I get nothing. Does anyone have a clear and detailed guide on what to do? I'm not dead set on using Rom Manager I was just reading that it'd be easier.

So a quick question that I have been unable to find the answer to, does nandroid backup photos as well? If not, where can I find them on the phones internal storage to copy to my pc? I am also using Titanium, does that backup photos?

Is there any way, besides installing the backup to determine what ROM is in it? I have a bunch of backups and would like to know if they are important anymore or not.

I've just rooted my 3UK Hero using the Goldcard method, as I want the 2.1 sense ROM installed onto my phone. I've loaded the 1.5 software. I've rooted using instant root - I know this much has worked as I've been able to install the apps which require root access.
I'm sure I've been following the guide to the letter (otherwise I'd never have got this far with it). However, when I start up the phone in recovery mode, I don't get the option of backup/restore.
I turn the phone back on, by holding the home and power key. After the Hero logo, I get a triangle with a '!' in and underneath that, is a little picture of a phone. So I press Home and Power again and the Android system recovery utility screen appears. I get the following options:-
reboot system now [Home+Back]
apply sdcard:update.zip [Alt+S]
wipe data/factory reset [Alt+W]
At the bottom of the screen is the following message:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

I have achieved rooting of my sprint hero cdma phone, but can not get to nandroid backup. i attempted to recovery reboot and it freezes at the htc screen, multiple times. i did luckily backup everything from my sd card and my apps/data before i did anything so i can get back to basics at least with root. i have formatted my sd card, and replaced it with everything that was on there directly after rooting. i can do a speedboot and see the menu to do the backup option, but i get the same results.

This may be somewhat of a silly/dumb question.....but can I rename the Nandroid backup files that I have made doing backups before flashing ROMs? I would like to know which one is which and I don't want to rely on my memory to have to remember. If this has been answered before, I apologize. If someone could point me in the right direction this thread can be deleted if it is old news.

If you do a Nandroid backup, then save the file from your SD card... can you use that same file to do a Nandroid Restore on a new replacement Eris? Seems like that should work, but I just want to make sure it's not phone-dependent.

i have an ATT galaxy S3, and I just finished a nandroid backup. However, CWM Recovery is now giving me the option to restore the ROM I just backed up (which is a stock ROM, its my first time) or just reboot. All I want is to return to my Stock Rom and continue using my phone.

I just came across my first downfall with moving the dalvik to SD. Nandroid is stuck trying to backup cache. Im guessing the reason is that nandroid cant find the dalvik because it is not symbollically linked by S2e since we arent booted into the actaul OS. Anyway i can get nandroid to backup without moving it back?

I've never made a rom now do I know how. I'm just broke and have a horrible computer its so bad I haven't used it since I got my evo 4G. Anyway I'm not new to flashing, modding or anything to do with my evo. What I like to do is flash a rom as a base then find other tweaks and mods and flash them. remove things the developer put in and maybe replace them with other thing I find from other roms. Eventually I have a custom "rom" mostly unrecognizable from my original base. My question is, is it possible to nand my "rom" and turn it into a flashable rom to share with the community?

Just got done getting Third Wave the way I like it. Made a backup and am now flashing Skyraider vanilla (Came from Moto Droid) and I am pumped! I will probably miss sense and go back but I love all the options! I do miss being able to just restore data with nandroid backups on droid. Made flashing so easy. I am afraid to try this with the Inc. Anyone do this ever?

I'm trying to "jump on the ROM train," and I recently just rooted my phone. I created a flash, reverting back to 2.0.1, and installed the Update.zip in recovery mode (meaning of course that I'm now rooted, with "SuperUser Permission" in my application list. I am now trying to create a nandroid backup, but am having some troubles. I have been following "DroidReview's" youtube video on doing this (YouTube - Motorola DROID - How to Create a Nandroid Backup - Part 1

I have a T-Mobile G2 Touch (HTC Hero) and I want to go back to the stock T-Mobile ROM, but I've been told that if I re-flash then it'll brick my phone? I'm running the latest version of VillainROM 10.3.2 and I found that I may need a Nandroid backup or something? If someone could possibly re-direct me to where I need to find a Nandroid recovery image for my phone, I'd be grateful! I used flashrec to make a back up of the recovery image or some sort? On my SD card is "recovery-backup.img"? I've been told I can install the official HTC stock ROM RUU running the exe then flashing the recovery-backup.img?

When you have booted into RECOVERY MODE, and you are either trying to make a Nandroid backup or restore, and you get a "Run nandroid-mobile.sh via adb!" error, then try these things: SD Card - it could be too full to write a recovery.Try deleting some things and try again. "Nandroid folder" inside your SD card -If you have renamed some of your backups, then this could also be an issue.Change the names back to what they were and try again. If anyone else has other experiences please feel free to add them here so others will have something to look at when in need.
