HTC Desire :: Mobile Data Toggle Widget Gone?
Jun 20, 2010
Until very recently, I had a widget on one of my Desire home screens that allowed me to toggle mobile data with one touch. It was an official (HTC or Android) widget, and I found it so useful I wanted to use it as an example or how to put a widget on the phone for my Dad... who has also just got one.And now I can't find it again under 'Add to Home' 'Widget'.What's happened? Have HTC pulled it? I know there are thid-party options, but I'd like my original back!

I decided to try out LauncherPro and I quite like it but one big annoyance is that there's no longer a widget for toggling mobile data on/off. Any widget that would do that on the market?
PS: I tried Android on-off widget but it only changed access points or something and that's not what I'm looking for.

Recently replaced the HTC Sense launcher with ADW launcher, which I highly recommend! However the HTC mobile data widget has now disappeared and I can't seem to find it. Anyone know how to get it back or a good replacement?

HTC Sense has a widget to enable and disable your data connection. I don't want to use Sense though, and since disabling it, I don't have that button anymore. Anyone know of a widget I can use?

If "always on mobile data" is disabled, will this have any affect on programs that are set to auto sync with back ground data enabled(Face book, twitter etc)? I'm trying to work it out but lots of people say different things?

Can anyone recommend a good mobile data switch/widget that doesn't break the APN settings? I have one on my HTC but I need one for my wife's Orange San Francisco.

I have been trying to find a way of quickly switching off/on the Mobile Network setting from the home screen. When searching Google there's loads of pages stating that it is an HTC Widget that can be added. I have checked all the widgets on the Desire HD and cannot seem to find it anywhere. I am using an unbranded handset.
The Desire HD manual even states "You can also add widgets that allow you to quickly switch on or off certain settings of your phone, such as Wi-Fi, Mobile Network...".
Does anyone else with an HD handset have this widget ?

A friend has a Galaxy S3 on AT&T. He doesn't have unlimited data so he usually keeps mobile data off. Whenever he receives a picture message he has to toggle the data switch on and off. Sometimes he forgets to switch it off and his battery drains and his data usage goes up.
My workaround includes using the app Widgetsoid to create a toggle for mobile data but I would like to incorporate a timer in the command prompt option.
I noticed that it has an option for a custom command prompt to be executed when the widget is toggled. Could create a line of code which I can use to turn mobile data on and then off in a specified amount of time?

One of the things I liked about Sense (I'm rooted now and running the Second Wave ROM) was the HTC weather animations when the screen was unlocked. After installing Widget Locker, I noticed an option to turn them on and now I have them back! I also installed the Weather & Toggle Widget and installed the weather skin that looks just like the Sense weather with the flip clock. The annoying part is that when it's sunny, or partly sunny, the "sun animation" from Sense doesn't perfectly align with the Weather & Toggle Widget weather icon. I know, I know, it's a minor problem and goes away when the animation is done, but the lack of symmetry sometimes annoys the hell out of me.

I'm travelling to Spain next week and will be taking my HTC Desire for photos and to use Wi-Fi in my hotel. However, I'm concerned that the phone will use mobile data as well, either without my knowledge or accidentally. Is there a way I can ensure without any doubt that my Desire won't use mobile data? Obviously I don't want to turn on airplane mode because I still want to use Wi-Fi.

Currently using launcherpro as default but having a little problem with my data connection. Do you guys leave mobile internet on then use a data connection toggle like on switch pro to enable disable as and when you like? Or do you use a toggle like curvefish apn to rename and automatically connect to the network? Or do you turn it on and off via settings or the power button as and when you need it? Bit lost on the subject to be honest. Also when I go and turn mobile internet on in the settings under it it says something like connect to mobile internet when WiFi is unavailable. Is this the default setting or can it be changed to only connect when I want it to?

Just upgraded to 2.1 OTA. When I had 1.5, I had a nice toggle for GPS, WiFi, and Mobile Network. Since the upgrade, I've found a nice toggle for the GPS & Wi-fi, but nothing for Mobile Network toggle?

Does anybody know of a decent app for the Desire that will switch off mobile data when the battery reaches a certain threshold?
I've tried Battery-fu but I get an apn error all the time which stops the mobile data toggle working - which kinda defeats the object.
It would be handy to have mobile data ennoblement automated in case three battery gets low when you're not near a power source.

I have an un-branded Desire with the latest HTC OTA firmware update and it's running on T-Mobile here in the UK. I have Web n'Walk so I get the full-speed HSDPA data service when it's in range.
I also use Google Maps Navigation a lot. The problem I notice is that sometimes after setting a new route the mobile data connection to download the route data fails to fire up. I can see the mobile signal strength bars, but no 3G or HSDPA signal indicators. And of course without the data connection the new route details don't get downloaded. I usually have to power off the phone and then re-power to get around this.
It doesn't happen consistently - sometimes no problems at all. And the problem seems unrelated to signal strength.
Does anyone else experience this and has anyone found a solution?

See the 3rd post. I am looking for the Widget where you can toggle everything that came with the evo plus the 4g, vibrate, and the E all in one widget. [Themes] Konikubs Evo Theme Collection - Froyo 2.2 - Usable on many ROMS!

In a recent thread, someone suggested to me that using Airplane Mode can chew up battery. Initially, I thought this seemed pretty silly, cause all it's really doing it turning off the wireless connections (how could that use more power?), but I had no reason to doubt this person.
I figured this evening, I would simply turn off my WiFi and Mobile Radio using the toggles. I noticed that your signal bars do not disappear when you turn off the mobile radio via the toggle. In fact, I can even place a phone call!! Not a very effective toggle in my mind.
Can anyone drop a little science on what's going on here? Is the Mobile radio ONLY for data? If so, is there a missing toggle widget in HTC's collection on this device? And ultimately, what is the airplane mode doing (and how could it not conserve battery over a fully "on" state)?

One of the first things I did when I got my Evo was turn off HTC Sense - can't stand its gaudy widgets and general bloat. However, one thing I am missing is HTC's little toggle widgets - particularly the one that lets you turn on/off 4G. The native Android toggle widget doesn't let you control 4G. Does anyone know any 3rd-party / alternative widgets to toggle 4G? Given that it's the first 4G phone, they probably don't exist but it would be cool if someone with know, how could develop one!

I currently have the SkyRaider 2.5.2 Vanilla ROM installed. I am wondering if there is a way I can get the 3G widget from htc sense on here somehow. I know this ROM still has a few sense applications and visualization, so maybe it is possible? I have been looking in the market with no luck None of the ones I have installed has worked so far.

Can someone tell me how to get my 4g on/off toggle widget back? I ended up deleting all my toggles but WiFi and gas as those are the only ones I was really using. As it turns out though bellingham is the only other Washington city besides Seattle that has 4g and I go there at least once a week to visit friends. Also if anybody on here is from bellingham or if you have been there and tried the 4g how is the coverage and speed?
