I'm looking for some apps which can let me compress the data because my ISP provides unlimited 3G although the speed drops to 15kilobytes/s (not to be confused with kilobits) after 500MB of usage. Is it possible that i can compress the data usage with an app so that it takes longer for me to use 500MB.
Also i mostly listen to music videos on youtube as i'm driving around so are there any other alternative apps which allow me to listen to music but can run on a speed of 15kB/s?

I have some binary data (pixel values) in a int[] (or a byte[] if you prefer) that I want to write to disk in an Android app. I only want to use a small amount of processing time but want as much compression as I can for this. What are my options?In many cases the array will contain lots of consecutive zeros so something simple and fast like RLE compression would probably work well. I can't see any Android API functions for this though. If I have to loop over the array in Java, this will be very slow as there is no JIT on most Android devices. I could use the NDK but I'd rather avoid this if I can.

I am porting a Python application to Android and, at some point, this application has to communicate with a Web Service, sending it compressed data. In order to do that it uses the next method:
def stuff(self, data): "Convert into UTF-8 and compress."
return zlib.compress(simplejson.dumps(data))
I am using the next method to try to emulate this behavior in Android:
private String compressString(String stringToCompress) { Log.i(TAG, "Compressing String " + stringToCompress);
byte[] input = stringToCompress.getBytes();
// Create the compressor with highest level of compression Deflater compressor = new Deflater();
//compressor.setLevel(Deflater.BEST_COMPRESSION);
// Give the compressor the data to compress compressor.setInput(input); compressor.finish();
// Create an expandable byte array to hold the compressed data.
// You cannot use an array that's the same size as the orginal because
// there is no guarantee that the compressed data will be smaller than
// the uncompressed data.
ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(input.length);
// Compress the data byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
while (!compressor.finished()) { int count = compressor.deflate(buf);
bos.write(buf, 0, count); } try { bos.close();
} catch (IOException e) { } // Get the compressed data byte[] compressedData = bos.toByteArray();
Log.i(TAG, "Finished to compress string " + stringToCompress);
return new String(compressedData);
}
But the HTTP response from the server is not correct and I guess it is because the result of the compression in Java is not the same as the one in Python. I ran a little test compressing "a" both with zlib.compress and deflate.
Python, zlib.compress() -> x%9CSJT%02%00%01M%00%A6
Android, Deflater.deflate -> H%EF%BF%BDK%04%00%00b%00b
How should I compress the data in Android to obtain the same value of zlib.compress() in Python?

I had rooted my A13. Installed BusyBox. Then was trying to figure out how to flash CWM by first trying to figure out how to get into the stock recovery. Holding down power+volup and power+voldown didn't do anything. I think I had the USB and power both plugged in at the same time. Next thing I know, the tablet rebooted and appeared to have factory reset. But now every time it is turned off and turned back on it goes back to factory default.
Real problem: Turns out the OS is not mounting data which is why it appears like its factory reset.
What I have done: Installed CWM. The only way I can get to CWM is to choose factory reset from the OS and when it reboots, it goes into CWM. There's no other way for me to get into recovery, so at this point, I am hesitant to try and flash random ROMs. From CWM I can mount data and see that it should go to /dev/block/nande. With the OS booted back up, I can manually mount data and see all the files in ADB shell, But it doesn't affect the OS since it has already booted up. And if I reboot, it won't be mounted again.
So how do I make Android mount data on bootup? Or what to check to see why its not mounting data anymore? vold.fstab appears to only list SDCARD mounts.

I rooted my phone to uninstall some bloatware system apps several months ago. Now, I need to perform a factory data reset just to remove the Google account associated with it. Is it safe to do so or will I lose any further system apps or worse, brick my phone? I have the apk's of the system apps that I removed, but for some reason I am not able to restore/install all of them. I used ES File Explorer back then to remove those apps. [My phone is Samsung GT-I5801 running Android 2.2]

I'm going to flash (format) my Samsung Galaxy S2 (both the external sd and internal sd) . My phone is not rooted. But there are some app's data that i want to backup before formatting.Those are some of my games' progress,Mozilla Firefox's history,bookmarks etc,Opera Mini history etc. , and the songs i tagged in Shazam.How am i supposed to do that since i know that you can't backup app data such as game progrees if your phone is not rooted ? Also i can't access those apps,whenever i open them they constantly crash,this started 1 week ago,that's why im gonna flash my device.

I have a Galaxy S4 (rooted) and just bought a Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 (Afraid to root because I don't want to loose warranty)
I restored all my apps on my tablet but all my Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies and all other game data is missing from the tablet.
First, is there a way to restore this game data to the tablet WITHOUT root?
Preferably, I would like to seamlessly sync the game data between the 2 devices. It would be great to play a level of any game on my phone and then pick up at the same spot on my tablet. Is this possible?

My galaxy s4 has recently been very slow so I thought that I would try a factory data reset to clear some things up. However, my phone is rooted. Now when I looked around on some other forums it seemed as though that I didn't have to worry about factory resetting the phone while it was rooted. But when I went ahead and did so it no longer will boot. Its stuck in the boot loop/download mode/ whatever you may call it. I can't seem to flash a recovery file through Odin either. My phone is gone now.

I have a Tmobile rooted Samsung Galaxy S III, I was running a nightly Cyanogenmod 10 ROM. Yesterday there was an update for that rom and I downloaded it and installed it, everything was fine and running smoothly until some people started telling me that they were not able to reach me by phone. I tried checking what was wrong and I finally realized that whenever I have my mobile data on or while I am using it I don't receive voice calls. I tried looking everywhere for a way to fix this and I came across the ##DATA# code in which I could turn off the DDTM option but unfortunately my phone doesn't recognize that code.
this is the message I get every time I try to enter ##3282# code.
I thought that maybe something was wrong with the ROM itself so i decided to browse around here for one for my Tmobile samsung galaxy S 3 and I decided to install this one [ROM][4.2.2][RC1] LiquidSmooth ROMs - d2tmo - 2|14|13
after wiping data/cache and dalvik cache I installed this ROM and this is my current phone info and still when I am using my mobile data I cant receive calls nor put the ##DATA# code to turn off DDTM.
is there any other way I could access that DDTM option?
Another thing I realized is that even tho I did the factory reset, wipe dalvik cache and data cache on recovery mode my phone still says it only has 4gb free on its internal memory, isn't it supposed to be completely free after wiping all that stuff?

If I am going through my calendar day by day it shows me from about 8am to 5pm. If there's anything before 8am or after 5pm, I don't see it without scrolling. On my old Treo, it would get rid of some of the unallocated hours between 8am to 5pm to ensure other events fit on the screen. Anyway to do this within the Calendar? I'm using Agenda in the meantime but would really like to see just the day's events for whatever day I'm looking at.

I think I need a step by step. So I ripped Avatar from a dvd using dvdfab. I chose main movie and Dvd9. This gave me a 7 gig file. I used handbrake to convert to mp4 at 480 x 272 or something on ipod legacy setting. When I put that file on the phone, it is 2 gigs. Does that seem too big? How can I compress this without a huge loss in quality? It plays perfect right now.

A friend of mine rooted my samsung mobile Galaxy S I9000 with a android 2.2 version. I read information on rooting your device, in which everything is explained very well, but could not find information on how to update once a device was rooted (probably I did not search in the right place). What I did so far is:
1) Taking backup of my pics (by manually drag and drop the folder on my pc), SMS and call logs (with sms backup + app), syncronized my contacts with gmail so that I can recover them later on and backup the music folder. I installed backup Titanium to back up my apps on my SD card.
1) Which most recent version of Android is supported on the device I have?
2) Is there important information that I forgot to back up?
3) Is there a guide with step by step procedure on which files I have to download on my pc and which procedure to follow?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini, GT-8190.
The first symptom was that my phone reboots itself constantly. My phone is rooted. I have TWRP installed.
I tried to flash a stock rom with Odin, it seemed to go well, but when the phone rebooted it was the same as before. I tried wiping the data with TWRP but when it reboots, everything is there again. I tried uninstalling the apps manually, but when I reboot the phone, they appear again. It's like I can't change anything in the internal memory. I can't do a factory reset, it reboots exactly the same as before.
It is like the internal memory is completely frozen. If I uninstall a program, it reappears on reboot, If I install an app, it disappears, If I turn off the wifi, it appears ON when reboot...

Somehow I managed to get my Samsung Google Nexus S 4g phone unlocked and rooted today. In the process I installed the TWRP recovery as per the particular instructions I had. I would like to install something called the Avatar ROM but they say I need the ClockworkMod recovery. Should that make a difference? if yes, where can I find it and how do I install it instead of the TWRP on the phone now?
