Jun 13, 2013Can I extract them from stock ROM or back them up from the device? I've successfully compiled and flashed the Android source for my Nexus device, but naturally all Google Apps are missing. Mostly, I am interested in the Play Store. Can I extract it from the stock Nexus ROM? Which files do I need? Again, I don't want to download some gapps.zip, but want to know the procedure myself. (I've tried installing some apps from the apps/ directory in the stock rom, only Maps.apk did work.)

Nov 8, 2010I've installed AK Notepad on my old ROM and did a Nandroid. I have only one note in there which I'd like to extract. I have extracted the data.img and system.img on my PC and I can find the .apk, but I can't find that one note that was written in there. Is there a way to find it? Or maybe if I can't extract the note, can I copy the settings somewhere in my phone so the AK Notepad will act as if it is that one on the old ROM where I wrote that note?

Jan 18, 2014I had upgraded my Galaxy Gio from stock rom to custom rom (CM 7.2 based), and now I want to restore just a few apps + data (for e.g. Memo) and Contacts (from stock rom) from my Nandroid backup, so I want it should be on the current custom rom.
How far I tried to do so, I could'nt get it done. I tried with NANDROID MANAGER, I installed it and tried to restore some apps + their data, (the apps was in previous rom in System/Apps so Nandroid Manager automatically wanted to install it in system/apps), ok, the program showed as it's installed with no broblems, BUT after reboot as it required, NOTHING HAPPENED, so I looked in system/apps and data/data with root explorer, those apps & data were there, but it was not installed.....
I also tried to restore the Contacts from Nandroid (Contacts Storage), and I ended up with erasing all contacts I had currently on the phone (anyway that wasn't a problem, cause i had an regular backup of it).
So I would like to understand what the problem is, and how is it possible to have my previous memos and contacts restored to my current rom?

DOM parser is perhaps not a good option, because I am on a mobile device. On the other hand with SAX I would probably end with more complicated code. What would you recommend?

May 5, 2010I am on Grdlocks Vanilla ROM (which I love). I have noticed that available space on my SD card has decreased dramatically. I have a couple questions. Can I complete a NANDROID backup at anytime? Or just when I flash a new ROM? How would I use a NANDROID backup if I actually needed one? Can I delete old ones off my SD card? I have two and they are taking up a lot of space. Do I delete the BDS folder when I delete these?

Jun 14, 2010I am a droid user, but my wife has an eris and I am trying to get her phone from one of the 2.1 leaks to the official 2.1 OTA with root.I downloaded a "PlainJane" ROM from XDA which seems to be the 2.1OTA with an OC kernel, which sounded like exactly what I needed. So, I performed a nandroid backup of her phone as it is and then I went into the nandroid restore menu to see what my options were with the Amon recovery image. Turns out there was no "advanced" nandroid restore option like we have on Clockwork and SPRecovery on the Droid, so my original plan of wiping, installing the new ROM, and then restoring data was dashed.So, I attempted to just flash the new ROM on top of the 2.1 leak. This resulted in tons of FC's on boot up. I then rebooted the phone, did a full wipe, then installed the ROM. It then booted up just fine, but without any of her data of course.
That is no good though as I promised her I wouldnt lose her data (again, LOL). So, I then wiped again and proceeded to restore the nandroid backup I did before I started and now the phone is right back to where it was before all of this.OK, having said all of that, I really want to just wipe, install the ROM, then restore the data on top. Is that not possible on the Eris? Is there a different recovery image I should be using that will allow me to do this? I do it on my droid all the time and it makes swapping ROM's a breeze.

Aug 24, 2010Just got done getting Third Wave the way I like it. Made a backup and am now flashing Skyraider vanilla (Came from Moto Droid) and I am pumped! I will probably miss sense and go back but I love all the options! I do miss being able to just restore data with nandroid backups on droid. Made flashing so easy. I am afraid to try this with the Inc. Anyone do this ever?

I know I have the update.zip option, but that seems to introduce issues for some that I want to avoid.Now, I know I have a few options. I can batch backup apps and data with Titanium Backup, then wipe, install the new build, and then restore via Titanium. Or, I can do a nandroid backup of my phone, wipe, install the new build, and then restore only the data partition of my first backup.My question is, are either of these methods any different from just using the update.zip version of BB? For example, when I upgraded from BB .7.8 to 1.0, I lost root and had to do a full wipe and I just manually reinstalled everything. Will doing the data partition restore or titanium backup restore result in the same issues?

Sep 17, 2010I have installed UD8 for about a week now. But ever since I have flashed some kernels (slayers 1100lv, chevys 1100 lv, p31200) I have not had the stability nor the quickness that the original 800 stock kernel gave.
I made a nandroid backup b4 flashing those roms..so my question is this: Do i have to wipe cache/data before i flash my nandroid backup? Or can i just flash it w/o doing any extra steps?

Jun 17, 2010I am under the impression that Nandroid backup & restore completely wipes the system data and overwrites with a saved image of the Android OS with whatever was on the phone at the time of backup. I created a backup to my SD Card, installed an app (ROM Manager)--couldn't get it to work so I uninstalled it. I then did a restore on my previously saved backup and right after booting up, I see a notification, open it, and catch ROM Manager downloading again to, eventually, install itself.How does the market, or my phone, know that this app was previously installed? Is it saved to my Google account somewhere? Is the data stored on my SD Card? My Nandroid backup that was created without the app being installed shouldn't have this information still on it should it?
