General :: Receiving Broadcast Event Without Activating App

Sep 6, 2013

I want to create an app in which I need to send SMS to a predefined number after first boot up of Phone. I want to do this without user intervention. i.e I don't want to create launcher icon.For that i am using a Broadcast receiver which will receive "android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED" event and I can send SMS from this receiver after some duration. This mechanism works fine till Android Version 3.1. I came to know that in later versions A broadcast receiver will not receive an event if Application is not activated at least once. Due to this security measure adopted in Android 3.1+ This mechanism is not working. Any alternate way to meet my requirement.

Android :: Error In Receiving SMS Using Broadcast Receiver

Oct 11, 2010

I'm trying to receive SMS using broadcast receiver. MySMSReceiver :

import android.content.BroadcastReceiver;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.telephony.SmsMessage;
import android.util.Log;

public class MySmsReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
/** Tag string for our debug logs */
private static final String TAG = "MySmsReceiver";
@Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Log.i(TAG, "Recieved a message");
Bundle extras = intent.getExtras();
if (extras == null)
return;
Object[] pdus = (Object[]) extras.get("pdus");
for (int i = 0; i < pdus.length; i++) {
SmsMessage message = SmsMessage.createFromPdu((byte[]) pdus[i]);
String fromAddress = message.getOriginatingAddress();
String fromDisplayName = fromAddress;

Log.i(TAG, fromAddress);
Log.i(TAG, fromDisplayName);
Log.i(TAG, message.getMessageBody().toString());
break; } } }

and added in Mainfest file
<receiver android:name=".MySmsReceiver" android:enabled="false">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS" />

Android :: Sending / Receiving Custom Broadcast Intent

Jul 25, 2009

I'm building a service that sends a broadcast intent when some value changes. The service sends the broadcast like this:

Intent broadcastIntent = new Intent(); broadcastIntent.setAction("nl.vu.contextframework.NEWREADING"); broadcastIntent.setData(Uri.parse("context://"+cer.getKey())); broadcastIntent.putExtra("reading",cer); broadcastIntent.addCategory("nl.vu.contextframework.CONTEXT"); sendBroadcast(broadcastIntent);

In some Activity (in a different process), I'm tryint to receive this broadcast as follows:

IntentFilter intentFilter = new IntentFilter();
intentFilter.addDataScheme("context");
intentFilter.addCategory(CATEGORY_CONTEXT);
registerReceiver(new BroadcastReceiver() {
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Log.d(TAG,"Received intent "+intent); }
}, intentFilter);

Android :: Send Data Packets Out After Broadcast Event Received

May 27, 2010

I know that the apps receive a ACTION_SHUTDOWN broadcast event when the device is shutting down.
When an application receives the shutdown, is there still an opportunity to send data packets out, or does android block such attempts(or does the platform tear down the network stack before it can go out).

Android :: Receiving System Intents With Custom Broadcast Receiver

Jul 16, 2010

I am attempting to listen for system fired Intents, specifically regarding text input, using a class extending BroadcastReceiver. I see there is an Intent called ACTION_INPUT_METHOD_CHANGED (android.intent.action.INPUT_METHOD_CHANGED) which I hope to be able to use to know when the keyboard or text input is attempted by the user. (I assume this intent will work as I can use an InputMethodManager object to handle keyboard related tasks)

My java code:
package com.BroadcastReception;
import android.content.BroadcastReceiver; import android.content.Context;
import android.content.Intent; import android.util.Log;
public class InputMethodChangedReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
@Override
public void onReceive(Context arg0, Intent arg1) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
if (arg1.getAction().equals("android.intent.action.INPUT_METHOD_CHANGED")) {
Log.d(this.toString(), "Event Fired");} } }

Android :: Google Maps Broadcast Event For Audible Navigation Instructions / Start And Stop?

Dec 14, 2009

I have an application which is playing audio.I have some customers that use this application while driving and who also use the Google Maps application to get directions to the places where they are driving.They have asked me to change my application to pause my audio while the Google Maps application is giving them audio navigation instructions. I am trying to find out if I can register a Broadcast Receiver to let me know when the Google Maps application is giving audio navigation instructions, or if there is a way to detect when any other application has started or stopped playing audio.It seems that this type of functionality would be beneficial for Google Maps and for any type of application which is playing media, so I am hoping that Google Maps is broadcasting events when it starts and stops giving audio navigation instructions, or that there is a generic way to discover when overlapping audio sources are trying to play.

Android :: Broadcast Event / Android Intent Action

I am adding to Android Manifest file as I want it active through my application life time. But the problem is that I am not getting the broad cast event from the system when battery status changes.

My code is here :-

android:permission="android.permission.BROADCAST_STICKY">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BATTERY_CHANGED" />
</intent-filter> </receiver>

General :: Activating Rooted Phone?

Oct 19, 2013

I am about to go to Verizon and hook up a new line and give it to a friend. I of course am going to get the new phone and I am going to give her my current Brand new Galaxy S3, which is only like 2 weeks old (2 weeks and 1 day to be exact). and I am just gonna hook myself up on the new line and give her mine. My question is, can you hook up phones that are rooted/Rom'd. I believe you can, cause I hooked up my buddies phone temporarily a week or so ago, and it was a LG Revo with the Gingervolt ROM on it. and they gave me a new SIM card, hooked it up and i was ready to go. So I don't think their should be an issue.

and yes I know this has been discussed over and over, but Galaxy Note 3 or LG G2 ? They are both amazing. But I want the one that has the best Dev work on it. and I do like the size of the Note 3. But I heard the LG G2 has a bit of a better camera, but I am not a huge photo taker, mostly just at parties, and when I am playing shows with my band I will have my GF take pics with my S3, and they turn out perfect. so I don't think that's a deal breaker for me.

General :: Activating Camera On Bluestacks

Apr 15, 2013

I did search in regards to activating the camera on Bluestacks but failing to do so.

What I am trying to do: Use my camera on my laptop on apps, such as Instagram, Whatsapp.

What I have done: I tried to use the camera on Bluestacks apps, but all I got is a black screen. Read the forums and changed the camera registry to 1, still the same problem even after restarting the app and computer.

Is there a way to maybe change the source of the camera to direct it to my default camera?

Or if there is something wrong with the default camera, I have an external USB camera as well. Could I re-route and get Bluestack to select that camera instead? There is a front and back camera, maybe that can be done?

Android :: Is This Systems Broadcast Ordered Or Normal Broadcast?

Aug 13, 2010

I'm trying to figure out if a system event broadcast is broadcasted using ordered broadcast or normal.The event is EVENT_REMINDER and in the source for the calendarprovider i noticed it sets up a alarmmanager to sent the broadcast. I can't find how the alarmmanager sends it. My guess would be as a normal broadcast , But while i was trying some things i noticed i could delay the system's notification (tried up to 10 sec) by building a sleep in my broadcastreceiver. This would indicate that they are handled ordered , and the systems receiver is only called when mine has finished. But can i be sure of this behavour?? (in all 1.5> sdk versions) the docs state that in some cases normal broadcasts are also handled ordered..due to spare of resources.

General :: Moving Good For Enterprise App Between Roms Without Activating Each Time

Jul 3, 2012

Moving Good for Enterprise around from rom to rom?

I have a Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) and was looking to test out Jelly Bean, or at least move to the stock image once available.

Problem is with Good for Enterprise..it's no longer hosted by my company and as an IT admin I used to be able to root, rom, reset my activation pin, etc.

Currently the parent company has a 1 and done activation (very annoying); so if I flash I have to wait for another activation?

Anyhow, was wondering if I were to take a backup of it and all its glory with Titanium backup, move to another rom and restore it, would it allow me to preserve my activation? I sort of tried it once, but it would never get any new email upon restore, so I was wondering if its really possible or if I am out of luck there?

Android :: Broadcast Receiver - Create A Broadcast Receiver Which Responds To System Events

Sep 28, 2009

trying to create a broadcast receiver which responds to system events and change system settings. I don't need any interaction from the user so I don't need an activity and have been trying to do everything through the manifest file. I've put a log event into my onReceive method but it never logs anything so I'm presuming my method is never called. I've tried this with both the 1.5 and 1.6 SDKs. I was hoping somebody could have a look at my code please and let me know if there are any problems.

General :: Broadcast Actions On ICS?

As my application is running as a service, it uses the BOOT_COMPLETED and USER_PRESENT events to start.

I tested it on different devices running Android 2.x but today I realised it doesn't work on a Google Nexus 3 which runs Icecream Sandwich.

Both booting and unlocking events does not start the application.

I use the following code :

Code:

android:name="myapp.StartReceiver">
<intent-filter>
<actionandroid:name = "android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED"/>
<actionandroid:name = "android.intent.action.USER_PRESENT"/>

So I wonder if it is related to the Android version. Why it does not work on this specific phone ?

General :: Possible To Broadcast Music To LAN Without DLNA?

Mar 30, 2012

I have a Pioneer AVreceiver which does not support DLNA but can be connected to a router to play music from the internet, i.e. shoutcast radios. To let it play I need to enter stream IP in AVreceiver interface. I can do the same using my PC, playing mp3s with winamp chained with a shoutcast server which broadcasts to my LAN, inputing in AVreceiver the LAN IP of my PC (192.168.0.25:8000).

I have just bought a SamsungNote and I have put my mp3 collection on it and I was wondering in there's an app that can broadcast music from phone to LAN in order to be played on my AVreceiver using the phone LAN IP.

If I activate it on his line, deactivate it, activate it on MY line, REactivate his old cell phone on HIS line, and then finally activate my old (current) cell phone on his line when he gets home... am I going to have to pay a billion activation fees?
