General :: SoundHound / Shazam - Inbuilt Audio Detection
Dec 14, 2012I was wondering if there is anyway to make SoundHound or Shazam to detect musics that played from Internet radio, ie "tunein" or alikes, that usually plays only if you plug your headphones in?
It seems SoundHound and Shazam can only detect incoming sound using the phones mic, so if nothing is going to mic it will not detect anything at all.
I saw in a post from a Sony Xperia user that he accidently made it working but i think its only for that particular phone.
Any workarounds/mods to make this work on any android device?

Nov 6, 2010I love Shazam and SoundHound for their epic ability to detect the songs for me. But unfortunately I can not afford a Data Plan and rely on Wi Fi. The thing is both apps need Wifi (I'm pretty sure last time I checked, correct me if I'm wrong). This is a big drag since sometimes I hear a sweet song on the radio on in the store, whip out my HTC Legend to find out no wifi = no song.

Imagine you are in a club and there is a track you like, use this app and it will tell you who its by and where to download it!

Apparently, within that week, Shazam went from a free application to 5 queries per month unless you upgrade to a paid version. I still have the unlimited application on my phone. However, it is prompting me to upgrade. If I upgrade, will I lose my unlimited usage?

Since I am an old user of Shazam, I have been "grandfathered" and enjoy unlimited tagging.
I intend to RESET my phone clean and then root it.
Question -- does anybody know if Shazam will remember my "grandfathered" status and let me enjoy the unlimited tags?

General :: Direct Access To Time Zone Function?
Oct 16, 2013I've used XDA many times before, normally for specific questions on ARHD ROMs.
I work on a cruise ship and we're continually crossing time zones. Currently, to alter the time zone on my (rooted) HTC OneX, I need to pull down the notifications tray, select settings, scroll down and select date and time, then select time zone. I can't use the Auto function, as the network time on the ship (satellite) is only available over Wi-Fi, for which I have to pay an exorbitant rate.
I'm looking for an app that will allow me one-tap access to changing the time zone. 'Time Zone Widget Light' almost does the job, as a tap on the widget scrolls through pre-set time zones, but this only allows me to step forward, and sometimes I need to go backwards as well (sadly our ship itineraries refuse to follow pre-set time zones, although I'm working on it!)
Any app, or perhaps a toolkit that lets me drill down to sub-layers of the android settings menu and create a short-cut?

Jun 16, 2013I have a HTC One running JB 4.1.2. I am confused by the location settings available in various places in jelly bean. In my previous phone running gingerbread, all the location related settings were under 1 tab. In JB, its under various tabs and apps. I am wondering what purpose some of these settings cater to. I am listing all the location related settings available in JB 4.1 below:
1. settings > Accounts & Sync > Google > Location settings > Let Google apps access your location.I believe this setting has to be enabled for google services such as maps, google now, google+, etc. to function.
2. settings > Location > Google's location service the description is given as 'allows anonymous location data to be sent to google. Also allows permitted apps to use data from sources such as wifi and mobile networks to determine your approximate location.'
settings > Location >Location & Google search.Description: 'Location used to improve google search results and other google services'
3. Google maps > settings > location settings > Under background location reporting > Location reporting (has 3 options: automatically detect my location, update location manually, do not update location)
Google maps > settings > location settings > Under background location reporting > Report from this device.If you use the above location reporting option and use same username for multiple devices, on whichever device you select this option will only report location.
There are also other options under this setting like enable location sharing, enable location history, etc.From my research, i found out if you wish to use maps and like google search results tailored to your location, then 'Let Google apps access your location' and 'Location & Google search' setting need to be enabled. Also for information, i have disabled 'Location reporting' setting listed in No .3 by selecting 'do not update location' and also disabled all other location settings listed in No. 3. But it has not affected google maps, google search, weather, google news.
I wish to know what exactly 'Google's location service' setting listed in 2 and 'Location reporting' setting in 3 does. Which apps do they exist for? I am asking this because some of these location settings i have listed above appear to have similar functionality going by their description (though that would not be the case) and i wish to know the difference. I also wish to safely disable some of these settings to conserve battery but without affecting functionality of apps like maps, search, news, weather.
General :: Power Menu Bug Report Function Not Working
Aug 10, 2013I have an original Nexus 7 running Android 4.3. I just learned about the "Take bug report" and "Power menu bug report" method to capture screen shots and logs. Unfortunately, they don't seem to work for me.
I'm logged on with my normal Google account. When I use either method, I get the "Take bug report" popup. When I tap on Report, the popup goes away and then nothing happens - no email - nothing. I've seen a couple of other reports of this happening.

General :: Hyperlink On Google Spreadsheet Function On Android Tablet?
Mar 25, 2013Google spreadsheets allow hyperlinks to be placed within cells, such as explained here: How to Make a Hyperlink Work in Google Spreadsheets | eHow.com
This works fine with my pc, where clicking cell offers prompt to click to go to hyperlinked page.
When same document is viewed via my Nexus 7 tablet, I can see the kyperlink text in the cell, but it does not respond to single tap, or touching and holding etc.to activate the link.
I believe this is a commonly used feature and anticipate it's a feature that google should if anything be better at than excel to encourage the migration to cloud computing.
Upon googling for info, I can't find other's having problem and I did find a website with known issues with google spreadsheets ( only ahandful listed) but no mention of the above problem.
So, is there a non-obvious way to activate the link or is it a problem or known bug?
