General :: How To Update Samsung Galaxy S I9000 From Rooted Android 2.2 To Newer Version
Jun 16, 2013A friend of mine rooted my samsung mobile Galaxy S I9000 with a android 2.2 version. I read information on rooting your device, in which everything is explained very well, but could not find information on how to update once a device was rooted (probably I did not search in the right place). What I did so far is:
1) Taking backup of my pics (by manually drag and drop the folder on my pc), SMS and call logs (with sms backup + app), syncronized my contacts with gmail so that I can recover them later on and backup the music folder. I installed backup Titanium to back up my apps on my SD card.
1) Which most recent version of Android is supported on the device I have?
2) Is there important information that I forgot to back up?
3) Is there a guide with step by step procedure on which files I have to download on my pc and which procedure to follow?
General :: Can Manually Update From 2.2.1 To Newer Version
May 10, 2012I've only had my Android phone for about 2 weeks now but being a bit of a geek love to tweak things to make them "cooler"...Updating - can I manually update from 2.2.1 to a newer version?Widget - There was a widget already installed with 5 icons, WiFi-Bluetooth-?-?-brightness Not sure what the two are but I suspect perhaps GPS (looks like it might be a sat dish) and Account Sync (circle with 2 curved arrows)Sometimes the phone boots in Safe Mode and after a few reboots finally boots into "normal" mode. Through trial and error I can get to a "recovery" prompt but that has "wipe" functions and I don't want to wipe my data. Is there an other option or just keep rebooting until it works? I read that you can hold the volume + button, but that brings up a factory testing menu on this clone phone.
The phone is a HTC clone from China (Hero 300 listed on box). I have a 2GB card I'm using with it. It appears to be "rooted" because there is the superuser icon.

May 31, 2013I'm on PACman 22.3, installed with full wipe except SD as per instructions and everything is working quite fine, except for sounds.
In call voice sounds really metallic, like speaking in to a big pan. Also, ringtones and speakerphone sound funny too, and I also find volume low, even when it's at it highest value. Desire HD

General :: Newer Skype Versions Disconnects When Minimized / Screen Off
Jun 13, 2014I've noticed that versions after Skype v4.0 have been having this issue where, when minimized or screen turned off, the app essentially disconnects. I've been doing testing with another account on the pc which I would use to write to my Skype on the phone. Works fine until I leave the app itself. It is still running, I've made 100% sure of that. When writing myself it first shows me as online but quickly updates to "offline" and message is "pending", i.e. not delivered before I open the app again.
How about battery life comparison between the older and newer versions? It's the main reason I wanna use the newer versions because allegedly the battery has been improved alot since 4,7 but sadly, in these versions, I have this problem.

Feb 15, 2014I updated my phone earlier today to jelly bean 4.3. Since then, I have stopped receiving network. The EMEI number doesn't show in the device info either. Tried restarting, taking out the sim card and putting it back in. Nothing works. It says this right after restarting, "currently unable to download, try again later". I bought my phone from Qatar and I am currently using it in UK (t-mobile) if that makes any difference, but it was working perfectly fine before.

May 29, 2014I have an AT&T Galaxy S4 I337 that I have been running Cyanogenmod on for quite a while now. Well, after getting bored and wanting to revert to the original firmware, I went through the process of a factory reset to stock through Odin. Everything went smoothly, all that's left is to update to 4.4.2 Kitkat and to root my phone once again. I went into settings and began the OTA update thinking it would install 4.4.2. After about 20 minutes of updating and downloading, my phone finally finished rebooting, but when I checked to see what version of android I was running, it was still 4.2.2. Kies also says that I'm running the latest firmware. Why won't my phone or Kies pick up the new Kitkat update? Does it have something to do with the fact that I flashed a custom ROM before?

I get told that there is an update waiting in OTA , so I let it download, reboots, starts to install, then fails, reboots, tells me to try via KIES or contact Samsung. But when I go into Kies... there is no button to let me update my firmware... it just tells me my current firmware version, nothing else like it usually would...
Not custom ROM, no root, battery 100%. Wifi/HSPA makes no difference..My friend has the same phone with the same firmware and it works fine with him?

It seems that a couple of applications out there do not run on this version. For example NDrive 11 says its incompatible with this and a HTC running 2.3.4 is compatible. Maybe the version or something else?

Mar 16, 2014I updated my GS4 to android 4.4 Kitkat through Samsung Kies. It seemed to be running smoothly initially but soon it began to crash randomly. When I tried to turn it on again it would crash again. At this point it was on about 40% charge so I plugged it in and it turned on with no problems. I had no such issues using android 4.3. It now dies at around 40-50% charge and won't turn on every time until I plug it in. It had crossed my mind that it could be an issue with my device battery but seeing as I have never had any battery troubles before the update, I think that the new firmware is likely the cause of my woes.

Mar 2, 2013I have the Metro PCS Galaxy S3. It's rooted, but Im still using stock rom. I am trying to install the new jelly bean update OTA.
Now the only other update ive gotten for this device, I had to install via KIES and it was a firmware upgrade, but NOW this time, KIES is not seeing that an update is available. Just says "firmware is up to date"
Ive done alot of research and I believe that the issue is that I removed bloatware after I rooted the phone and back then I did not understand the value of a backup so I cannot restore the bloatware that I removed.
Ive already tried temporarily unrooting and installing with voodoo unroot, Ive tried restoring it to factory settings/wiping data and ive tried odin and clockwork mod to install the update but it fails everytime.
I even downloaded the triangle blocker and reset my flash counter to 0.

Jun 9, 2013I had my Galaxy Pocket rooted and got the Jellyblast v3 rom, it was doin fine until I checked on the app OTA and check for update, a new update appeared which is the Nemesis 2.5 Hybrid-Holo Editon. It asked me to download it and so I did. When it was done, it asked me if I wanted to install it and so I did, and rebooted. Later I noticed that it was already boot looping. I tried pulling the battery off and to clockwork mode, with the proper procedure..the holds and presses, but still it just kept boot looping. Tried to connect it to the PC using the USB chord and yet it just shows the charging icon and sooner it turns to white. I tried Kies but still it turned white screen all over again; no device found.

Nov 21, 2013I have a rooted galaxy S2 on stock with the SuperSU application. I updated the SuperSU application today and when I opened it, it advised me to update the binary. I selected the option to update the binary via CWM (as that's my recovery tool). My phone then tried to reboot but is now stuck on the splash screen, I have access to ODIN mode which currently says CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts) but no access to CWM.
I have a feeling I would need to flash the kernel but am not really sure what the best way to fix this is. If possible I would like to keep all my data intact.

I have lots of funny contact names because of the SKYPE nicknames. Also, some contacts are made from email handlers.
So to organize them nicely, I spent last few hours on my Gmail / Contact account, renaming, adding photos, merging etc... Except, that when I want to SYNC it. Not all of the contacts update, and some remain as they were.
I would trash them all and import new set from Gmail, but I'm worry that when I do that, it might trash my gmail contact as well
Also, is there any way to change the contact font size? I have many long names, and lots of contacts. The screen cuts most of the names off and many of the contacts share same name. I have to open the contact, to find out details in order to know who I'm looking for.
