General :: How To Slim A ROM - Find APKs Related Files

Jun 1, 2014

I'm trying to make my own slimmed version of a ROM's .zip, by deleting some APKs and changing some other files (media, bootanaim, walls; minor changes to systemui and framework-res; etc)..

Until now, I've done it several times, but I think that I can do a more in-depth research to reduce junk files..Is there a way to find a list of LIBs and other files that are related to the APKs that I delete??. I've tried two ways:

1) Decompiling APKs and "explore" to find related files

2) Search all over the Web to find information

General :: Flashing New ROM - ExtSD Card Files?

Nov 9, 2012

What should I be doing with the app files on the extSD card when flashing a new or updated ROM? If I am doing a factory wipe and clearing the Dalvik cache should I reformat the SD card to get rid of previous app files? It is a little annoying to have to copy over again 32gb of music and pictures to the SD card everytime I flash a ROM.

Which files/folders can I safely delete from the SD card if I don't want to format it and if I leave app folders there and restore apps with TB will they reuse those folders?

Android :: Hosting APKs Files On Site Works Only For Emulator?

Mar 17, 2009

I'm currently hosting an app on my own server so my beta testers can test it. I've set up the apk MIME type to be application/ vnd.android.package-archive, and when I try to download the app from the emulator, it downloads the 53KB apk file and installs it. When I try to do the same thing from a real ADP1 device, it only loads 43KB. When I try to install it, the system says that I'm trying to install an app that already exists (called "Android System") and that doesn't require any permissions, but nothing happens when I proceed. logcat tells me
"D/asset (16379): failed to open Zip archive '/ sdcard/download/[name of the app].apk'

Bonus points! When I try to download the app from the emulator, I can see that in the accesslog of my server. Not so when I download it from the device, even after deleting /sdcard/download/* and clearing the cache through the settings. Almost as if the device was loading an old copy from a proxy server. I'm not sure which APN I'm using, but none of the T-Mobile APNs have a proxy AFAICS. Is there a way to circumvent the proxy, assuming that this is the case? And/or tell the proxy not to cache this apk file?

General :: How To Recover Files Off Of Internal Storage

May 13, 2014

HTC One Does not have external sd card, only the "Internal Storage"

I was trying to multitask and ended up wiping Internal Storage through TWRP. Is there any app / process I can use to recover files? Undelete[app] errors out saying it's not a fat filesystem Disk Digger[app] only searches for specific file extensions, which would cover things like my TitaniumBackup & TWRP Backup files

When I plug it into a computer, it shows up as a Portable Device, and no problem that I've downloaded (Recurva / PCI / EUSUA) is able to search on portable devices, only physical/logical drives.

Is there anything I can do to attempt to get data back from the sd card?

Android :: Files - Local Files - Storage

Sep 2, 2009

From the Android documentation:

"You can store files directly on the mobile device or on a removable storage medium. By default, other applications cannot access these files. "

I could write to the sdcard (/sdcard/file.tmp) and other apps could access these files, right?

I would like some local storage that I can write files to (and read from later) that are not accessible to other applications, and I will always have access to. The problem with the sdcard is that if someone plugs in a USB cable and turns on MSC, my application (and all applications on the phone) will lose (both read and write) access to the /sdcard directory. So I need something more reliable.

HTC EVO 4G :: Flashing New Radio Files Really Make Any Difference

Sep 30, 2010

I have a rooted evo running fresh 3.3.3.1 and so far I love it. I used unrevoked 3.21 to do this. My question is does flashing new radio files and pellet files actually increase and or decrease how well the radio works on the phone. I noticed hat once I installed wireless tether that my WiFi signal seems to go down 1 or 2 bars when the laptop is not even 10 feet away. Is thus normal. Anyway I'm very knew to the whole flashing of radio files and just wanted to hear if it does anything or not.

HTC Desire :: Radio Files - Flashing Rooted Phone

May 11, 2010

With regard to phone calls dropping when on a nominal h/3g connection (as when I'm in the house I have a 3g/h reception 2 bars but when I pick the phone up it seems to drop out to g after a few seconds so if I answer a call on 3g/h a few seconds later the phone switches to g and disconnects me poor signal in the house I think but very annoying as I have to keep the phone on g only in the house and use WiFi for browsing at the moment)). I searched for some ROM radio files to flash to my rooted phone and found these 3 roms

[Radio ROM] Desire Radio Roms - xda-developers

Was wondering if anyone has looked into this and if there is anymore (possibly updated files) out there. At the moment I have downgraded to file 30.34 as this radio file seems to switch from g/3g/h the quickest and it's a bit more stable (still cutting to g connection once I've had the phone in my hand for a couple of seconds (think due to the receiver being in the bottom of the phone as someone else has reported), will check it's progress but all files give a similar reception.

General :: 2 Small Internal Storage - How To Swap SD To Be Main Phone Storage?

Aug 23, 2013

I've bought this chinese clone of the SIII, it's a MT6575. It's great except for the internal storage, which supposedly is 500MB but there seems to be an invisible SD storage which is 2GB. It's really confusing... When I go to Settings -> Storage there are 3 memories: "Internal Storage" (claims to be 4GB but it's fake, it's actually 500MB), "Phone Storage" (claims to be 16.5GB but it's probably 2GB), and finally my SD, "SD Card" (32GB).

The thing is, I'm having problems downloading big apps because apps go to "Internal Storage" which is 500MB only, and which files are stored in the "Phone Storage" (maybe internal & phone are actually the same?). However when I go to Settings -> Apps, on the "Downloaded" tab, the apps are in "Internal Storage" (500MB), and on the "On SD Card" tab, it shows that apps are in "Phone Storage" (the ones I moved to SD). This means my 32GB SD isn't being used by the system when I send apps to SD probably.

Also, my 32GB SD card is found in /mnt/sdcard2, and the /mnt/sdcard... I don't know which storage is that.

So basically all this is happening because I tried to Link2SD with my 32GB SD doing all the 2 partitions stuff and so, but Link2SD never detects the "secondary SD" which is the 32GB SD, as this fake SD card, "Phone Storage", is probably what the programs thinks to be the SD card.

Android :: Way To Delete App Associated Files From External Storage On Uninstall

Jan 1, 2010

It'd be convenient if an application I'm writing stored some files to external storage permanently (so they persist after the application has been exited[destroyed]), but on an uninstall I'd like to do the decent thing and have these files removed to free up the storage.

Is there any way I can have these files removed on an uninstall?

If there isn't (and I'm skeptical), then I'll have to create these files each time. I'm trying to save start-up time and also occupy required space by having them exist permanently.

Note: I need to use external storage, so both internal storage or a DB would be inappropriate.

Android :: Application Access Permission To Files On Internal Storage

Jun 30, 2010

A question about the internal storage that's private to each application (especially when storing files with Context.MODE_PRIVATE).

How is that storage actually assigned to the application? Just by package name or also somehow bound to the sign key of the app?

Let's say I have installed application 1 and then write another application 2 with the same name and package name (just differently signed with different keys) and install it (app 2 replacing app 1), would that application 2 get access to the /data/data/[app]/files ?

Or would I not even be able to replace app1 with app2 due to different sign keys in the first place?
