General :: Does Bootloader Unlock Secure Delete Files
Aug 2, 2012
When you 'fastboot oem unlock', does it perform a secure delete (completely unrecoverable) of all files? Or are the files still kept until overwritten, like with normal delete?

I've been following the instructions on the HTCdev website for unlocking the bootloader on my HTC sensation XE. Ive made it to the last step and acquired the unlock code from HTC. I then copied that to my computer and followed the last step "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin" but I get an error message in the CMD promt "remote: unlock token check failed"
I have made sure that the .bin file is in the correct directory (c:Android).I have USB debugging enabled and fastboot disabled.

i recently broke my last phone, so i had it replaced and this one is running 2.3.6, i tried using that black white screen (cmd?) with the options ex:
1. unlock root etc.
2. CWM install/root etc etc. x. debugging etc
but no luck. When i reach the rsd lite portion of the first section, my phone just boots up into the os and rsd lite gets cancelled. ( i chose 2.3.4)when i first got it, i could do everything fine, but i couldn't boot after installing 3 different roms. but when i install clean software it works just as it should

I successfully unlocked the bootloader on my xperia x8 via flashtool put on custom kernel nAa 14 and miniCM7 Yay.Everything is fine apart that I want to change network because they have much better deals etc.I went to the 3 network shop and tried to put in the Sim, it took it in loaded but wouldnt register with the network , in fact I tried last week when I was on stock kernel and gingerxperia and it asked for ''unlock code'', today it didn't ask for unlock code took it in but wont register.I guess there must be some sim lock or something.
Maybe it is unlocked but something to do with Radio pehaps nonetheless my current Network works fine.here's my S1 LOG if any good. after unlocking BL of course

I recently tried to unlock the bootloader for my XPERIA ION and I think I managed to do it. It rebooted in a "new" state so everything I had was gone. Not sure if that's what's supposed to happen?
Well, then I tried to root with the "bin4ryv18" runme.bat. It goes fine until it keeps on running ,so something went wrong... Also when using another program, it says it "failed on data/local/tmp permission denied". I don't know how I should continue from here? I'm quite a noob when it comes to this. Do I flash something first ?

My original concern is too get rid of the android software originally put on my htc wildfire by my phone operator. Important precision: I have a mac computer.
For this i figured out i had to unroot the phone or unlock the bootloader (am I right? My overall android level is not good).
So I tried unrevoked, which said that my "hardware is too new". Then I tried to unlock my bootloader following the instructions on htcdev (and other similar forum topics) but I got an error message "Command error" when I type "fastboot oem unlock" or "fastboot oem get_identifier_token", and nothing happens.
I then noticed that htc says I might have to update my hboot (I currently have 1.02.0002), but how.
I tried any other stuff found on forums such as factory reset (*sigh*), changing usb cable, changing usb port, trying from another computer (still a mac), etc...
I saw threads such as "use a gold card", but it seems complicated and I don't have a pc anyway.

how to unlock boot loader, root and s-off my HTC one mini. I bought the phone in november so im assuming that i updated to 4.3 or it was already installed (relevant later). I htcdev unlocked my boot loader, installed twrp and made a backup, installed superuser and rooted my phone. Then I installed titanium backup pro, made a backup and uninstalled all the system apps/bloatware I didn't need. All was peachy but the apps kept reappearing which I found was down to s-on (despite what I read about htcdev unlock boot loader method making my phone s-off) . So I tried the revone method and got error 1 which apparently is down to having android 4.3 so I looked for an earlier ROM and flashed Magio r1 which worked fine but couldn't find the data/local/temp folder to install revone into. Probably could of put it somewhere else but I wasn't that confident with the s-off process. So I finally found Jmz m4 stock ROM so there was light at end of tunnel. So I read up on twrp factory reset/format data functions and saw people were using both methods. I went with the full format and factory reset afterwards. Looking back now that was pretty stupid as I have no ROM and no backups to restore to. I did manage to chmod 777 the permissions on my twrp backups and copy the to dropbox (after endless scouring of forums). I also know how to flash boot images and use the adb side load functions. I can't adb push the file as it returns with error closed, I've tried the following commands:
adb device - my device is attached and side loading.
adb usb - returns error closed
adb kill-server
adb start server - server starts successfully then returns error closed.
adp push rom.zip /data/media/0 - returns error closed
And just to be sure I tried with /data/media/, same error..I've fastboot flashed the jmzM4 ROM image and kernel but no joy as I'm guessing the boot image isn't enough and you need the zip. Currently I can load into boot loader and recovery no problem, just freezes on HTC load screen in normal boot up.

So, my issue is that I simply cannot unlock the bootloader of my Nexus S (i9020T). The phone's connecting to my computer via Samsung Android ADB Interface as seen under the Device Manager. I see the proper device ID when I type "fastboot devices" into the adb command prompt. Then, when I type "fastboot oem unlock" the phone starts the unlock verification process -- I select yes, the phone restarts, but it goes back to the stuck Google screen. Then, if I pull the battery and go into fastboot mode directly, bootloader's still locked. I've tried this quite a few times and same result -- same result trying to unlock w/ toolkits like WugFresh's NRT.
I've also tried to solve it w/ all versions of Odin. None of them detect my phone even after installing Kies w/ drivers. I think I have the required drivers though since I can command the phone fine through adb. And Odin should need bootloader unlocked to work anyway so it won't work if bootloader cannot unlock.... I've even tried a few other things like pushing recovery and bootloader images onto the phone via adb, but these also failed due to the locked bootloader. All options seem to require an unlocked bootloader.
I also cannot enable USB debugging under phone settings either b/c I now can't get past the Google logo/fastboot mode menu. I don't think this is required to unlock bootloader through adb though.
Background: Phone had the latest auto updated version of Android when the phone all of a sudden turned off in the middle of the night recently. Weird b/c the battery was basically full. It now always gets stuck on the Google logo upon normal restart. It goes into fastboot mode OK if I remove the battery and press power/vol. buttons -- I then first tried the restore and recovery functions there, etc, but no effect.
To add, one of the first things I tried was to do a manual factory data reset in the recovery menu (selecting 'yes' to erase all data).
And I tried adb sideload of the OTA .zip file. But installation was aborted. The following appeared immediately under the regular adb sideload instruction in the system recovery menu (under "Now send the package you want to apply to the device..."):
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
file_getprop: failed to stat "/system/build.prop": No such file or directory
Installation aborted.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with naughty pics of my girl friend or other girls on my phone that I don't want the girl friend, other girls, or friends and people in general to see...
Is there a way to put these files in a secure/passwored folder on the SD card that the "Albums" or any other video/pic app can't access? Besides keeping my phone locked, I don't want someone accidently flicking through the photo album and stumble upon these. Also I noticed even switching the Wallpaper shows all the pics on the phone.
I have an idea of an app called "Stash" where you can move any files (maybe even contacts/texts) to a particular place on the SD card that the phone can not find.

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Within the system file /system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-xhdpi/ are about 17 little "emo_im_xxxxx.png" files that represent the little "green alien" emoticons that Android's stock SMS program inserts into text messages when certain text-based emoticons are input.
I want to delete these .png files so that the "green alien" emoticons no longer replace my standard text smilies. I don't care that others may not be able to see them. *I* don't want to see them, LOL. I've hated them since I got the HTC Droid Incredible two years ago, and I want them gone. I don't want to use a separate messaging app (Handcent, etc.). I like the stock app. I have Root Explorer, but the only option it gives me when I navigate and select these .png files is to "Extract" them.
I rooted my phone for the sole reason of being able to access/edit system files so I could get rid of these ugly little buggers, but have not had much luck after a full day of Googling, downloading, installing, uninstalling, packing, repacking, pushing, pulling and rebooting. There has got to be a simple solution to something that should honestly be built into the Android OS as a simple "auto-smilies on/off" toggle switch in settings.

I have a Samsung Galaxy ACE (GT-S5830i) which I have rooted but I am still on the stock rom/gingerbread 2.3.6
Today my phone said an update is available, so I connected to WiFi and downloaded the 30.14mb update, the update fails to install and I have now found out from searching that you cannot do a software update OTA once you are rooted, D'oh!!
So I now want to know how do I get rid of the 30mb update that I downloaded from my internal storage?! Can I simply delete it from the appropriate file, if so what is the folder/file called? or is it not as simple that?
If this 30mb update that didn't work cannot be simply deleted using my file manager app, then should I unroot my phone, and then try and update OTA again? and then root my phone once more? Would that work?!
