General :: App That Inform What Is Causing Notifications
Aug 19, 2012
Getting random notifications on my EvoLTE and I'm trying to figure out what is causing them without reviewing miles of logcat files. Is there an app that will create a log entry to tell you what is causing notifications?

First off, let me state my phone is rooted, but this problem happened pre root as well. Certain applications, the two I think I've noticed doing it so far, were weather bug, and temp monitor. That have on going notifications, will randomly cause my phone to not turn back on from sleep. I have to do a battery pull just to get the phone back up.

Now, when it comes to the official Android Facebook application I've been using it on my Nexus 5 and my previous Galaxy S2. I use to always try and remember to place it in the background to minimise battery drain (I know this isn't perfect, but it did make a difference battery wise, because if I leave it in the foreground, the battery would drain).
Recently I've been running a number of tests and I have identified whenever I receive a Facebook notification, battery drain dramatically increases (e.g. over 10% in an hour with no use (sitting idle (black screen) and locked). If I don't get Facebook notifications, then the battery life is solid and last for ages.
So I tried: Disabling all Facebook notifications. I've then tested a number of times... I get a friend to send me a Facebook private message (they then SMS me to let me know when they send the Facebook message). My phone does NOT generate a Facebook notification message, BUT I notice the dramatic battery drain kicks in as described above (phone gets very warm as well) when they send the Facebook notification.
* I then tried ending the Facebook task. This does nothing. The dramatic battery drain pattern continues.
* If I turn the phone on and off, it stops the battery drain.
* I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Facebook. No difference, problem still occurs.
* I'm using the latest Facebook application as at 30/01/14.
I know the advice is to uninstall Facebook, but I know I could also install Greenify, but I don't want to root my phone (yet) (and the non-rooted feature is something you need to remember to do - knowing me I will forget to force stop)).
There was something similar on Facebook Messenger (which I don't have installed) (I just found a battery-draining bug in the Facebook Messenger standalone app, and how to report it at Facebook who can fix it. : Android)

I just want to get numbers of times to be used for each Activity.
So the very straightforward method I thought is increasing the count for an Activity when it was started. But how can I get the information?

When publishing an update on the Android Market, is there any way to inform users of fixes & new features? I just published my first app and am still getting used to everything about the experience, including being taken aback by the types of comments that some people post. But I am definitely impressed with the error reporting capabilities!

I have registered a BOOT_COMPLETED Receiver in my application, i want to listen for changes on SMS Database.
The BroadcastReceiver starts a temporary Service which registers the ContentObserver.
Now i want to notify my main activity (which is not started) that the Observer was registered successful.
(I want to do this, because if a user installs the app for the first time he don't restart his phone but needs the ContentObserver too. If you have another idea how to do that you can post it. I just want the information that the observer is registered already)
My idea was to notify the activity with a static attribute:
CODE:........
But i think that is not good and doesn't work because the activity isn't started and this is ignored.

Maybe it's easy, but I couldn't really figure this out right so far... I got a BroadcastReceiver waiting to get triggered by the AlarmMangager - this works fine.
Now: because the event, if it occurs, needs to refresh some elements on screen of the main Activity, I would like to send an Intent from that background BroadcastReceiver to my Activity - but only if it is currently in the foreground, aka active.
If it is not running or not visible, I don't care - and the last thing I want to do is start the Activity by my intent! I handle repainting of the views in my onResume method, so I don't care at all.
EDIT: my BroadcastReceiver is waiting for alarms that must be notified to the user. So, it must be there and declared in the manifest. The problem is: it will have to decide whether the mentioned Activity is currently up in front or not.

My app has a 1*4 icon size widget. When a user tries to add a widget I provide with a configuration screen. and some data is collected - it is verified by the server - it is added to the local DB with appWidgetID as the key - all is good. when user hits save, if there is not enough space, he is given a polite toast - "No more room on this home screen". Now my problem is that the application is not informed of this. Application still assumes the widget was created and sits back and wait for the broadcast to update the widget after certain amount of time.
Can anyone tell me if i can find out via a broadcast or a call back or any method possible to determine if the widget was not successfully created, so that i can mark that record in my DB as deleted. Or better if i can know the space available beforehand via some magic ninja code. my whole application design is disturbed because of this problem.

I am trying to figure out if one it is possible for an SD card to cause my phone to become unstable (like spontenously rebooting, heating up, etc), i think the answer is yes as I have tried using the phone for a few days with and without the card and it does indeed seem more stable without the card but its less clear about if its the card or whats on the card. I tried formatting the card and thought at first that it was more stable but then it seemed to start acting up again (I can't sit and watch it all day and sometimes its not obvious that it has restarted, sometimes it just shuts down). I have also tried different versions of RR, tinkered with neartrom (not long enough to be sure though) but still stability issues.
Is there a way to see If my card is someway corrupted? or If the phone is just not liking this card or any cards? A friend let me use their card for awhile and my phone was still acting up (rebooting, freezing, overheating). I prefer to to figure out exactly what the problem is before I fork out the money for a new card; it seems illogical that a sdcard in general should make a phone act up like this but I am running out of ideas (going out and getting a new phone would be even more painful than getting a new sdcard so I am really hoping to figure this out as it seems to run ok when no card is inserted).
btw, I the card is a sandisk ultra 64gb microsdxc card, its worked for like 2 years (I stored music and backups on it mainly, most the r/w stuff was from daily podcasts).

I have used partitions on my old rooted phone where I thought the sd card had crashed because of partitioning it. Now I have removed the partition and I am still getting problems. Then I formatted my whole micro sd card using windows.
Whenever I insert my sd card into windows via my phone, it asks me to format it. Why has micro sd partitioning wrecked my sd card???!!

Have a brand new HTC One X+ (AT&T). Having an issue where after boot and sometimes all of the sudden during the day, the phone gets hot and battery level drops l like ton of bricks. Using Android Task Manager App and enabling monitor of system processes and selecting realtime monitor, I've traced the problems to "android.process.media". This appears to be something to do with Android scanning the device for media files (audio/video/etc) and creating some sort of database. I also usually see the "Music Enhancer" process which has to do with Beats Audio according to HTC (but I have Beats turned off.)
I've seen old threads of people with same problem and in some cases it had to do with a "corrupted" media file and they had to remove all media files and/or factory reset their device. I just spent an entire weekend customizing this device! Plus, how the heck do you prevent yourself from copying the corrupted file over if it was a corrupted mp3 or something?
I'm pretty sure my issue stems from the fact I used my media manager (Media Monkey) to sync over 2,800 audio files to the device. My collection is of high bitrate quality, about 16GB worth of music. I'm pretty sure this is what it is choking on. What I'm not sure of is if the Media Scan the Android device is performing is just a "normal check" for changes/addition/deletions to any of the media files. This of course would take a lot of time and CPU if it has to scan 2,800 files every reboot or periodically. It seems launching Google Play sometimes starts it too as I also sometimes see Google Play Service:Music or something like that (even though I don't stream any of my audio from Google Play.)

My only complaint about the Droid is the seeming lack of options for notifications.
Is there a way, or an app, that would allow you to assign different notifications to emails vs texts vs missed calls?
Also, does anyone know if there's a way to set the phone to re-notify you periodically if you have a notification that has not been looked at? I tend to leave my phone sitting on my desk at work and would like it to let me know if I missed a call or text while I was away from my desk.
Ideally I'd like to silence email notifications, but have text and missed call notifications with unique ring tones for each, and I'd like the phone to renotify me every 10 minutes or so if I have a text or missed call waiting for me.

Everyday I go to the gym and turn on my Motorola bluetooth headphones (Amazon.com: Motorola S305 Bluetooth Stereo Headset ) and then click on the Bluetooth widget on my EVO and after two beeps, I start hearing the phone through the headphones.
When I'm done, I tap on the Bluetooth widget and the phone freezes and then reboots. Sometimes it comes up with Bluetooth still turned on and when I tap it again, it reboots again. Every single time.
When I go to Settings>Wireless and uncheck Bluetooth it often does not reboot but sometimes it does.
Since it takes for.freakin.ev.er to come back after a reboot, I'd like to streamline my process and skip the reboot part.
(Not rooted. And I've never used the Bluetooth function for anything but this one headset. When not using headset, I keep Bluetooth turned off.)

I'm developing an application which will use magnetometer data for interaction, by moving a magnet towards and away from the phone. This works fine (enough), but it seems like when I move the magnet too close to the phone, a noticeable lag occurs, and these messages are being spit out to the log:
CODE:..........
This can be also demonstrated for example in the app "Compass 3D" which is available on Market. It is enough to move a headphone in direct contact with the phone, it will produce a lag for at least 4-500 msec, and the messages above printed to Logcat. This is on my HTC Hero.

My EVO has been rebooting frequently since the latest OTA update. I've tried doing a hard reset and taking out the MicroSD card, and it seems to keep happening. It seems to get hotter and hotter if I have a Live Wallpaper on. Is it just me? Is this related to the FPS cap being lifted, in the sense that the GPU is allowed to work harder than necessary? I should also mention that I'm using the Otterbox Commuter which is quite an insulator and may be part of the problem.

Does anyone else's phone just go black (not off, just black screen) while browsing? Late at night ill be using my EVO browsing the App store. Ill download 2-4 apps and play around with them, keep what I like and uninstall what I dont. Ill read the news, use friend stream and read reddit. I am using wifi, no task killers, froyo, (problem existed with 2.1 as well), but for whatever reason my screen goes black.
The phone is not off, the 4 buttons at the bottom are lit up. Pressing the power button brings the screen back on but sometimes it just dies out to a black screen again. I've done a soft and hard reset both to no avail. Is anyone else having this problem? How many apps can the phone handle at one time?

Ive just got a new Wildfire and Im having some issues with the battery. The most concerning thing is that it seems to be running down quicker overnight, while Im asleep and the phone is idle with the screen locked. When I went to sleep last night it was showing at about 50%. However it woke me up at 5am this morning telling me to connect the charger the second time this has happened in 3 days. I already have wireless, bluetooth and 3G switched off (I only switch these on when I want to use them), background data switched off and the screen brightness set at low. When I checked the applications that were running this morning, there was nothing that shouldn't have been there. Anyone got any idea what could be causing the battery to run down so quickly overnight when the phones not being used?

I know most of you probably check your texts pretty quickly and I do too but I was in a meeting one day and received a text.My phone was not turned on once during the hour long meeting yet when I turned it on for the first time after the meeting I noticed the battery had drained nearly 10%.Turns out I received a text about 15 minutes into my meeting and upon looking at Spare Parts I noticed that Handcent kept my phone awake for 45 minutes.the amount of time it took me from receiving the text to reading it.I then thought it was because I had the pop-up option enable.no go.After turning that off it is still keeping my phone awake. Can anyone else replicate this issue? I had my wife send me a text and then waited a few minutes to check it and then checked Spare Parts for the Partial Wake Usage.

This seems to be a strange issue and one I haven't found here or elsewhere through searching.
When I first got my Hero and charged it up, and the second time I recharged the battery, everything was fine. However then the charger started playing up and the battery wasn't charging properly and eventually the battery went completely dead and the charger stopped working altogether.
I took the phone and charger into an Orange store and they confirmed the charger wasn't working, and gave me a new one (which they checked worked in store). So I took the phone home and again, the charger worked fine for a couple of uses but has now stopped working again.
Has anyone got any ideas as to what could be causing the charger to stop working?

I used Z4root to root my DX. I then installed Rom Manager and Droid X Recovery Bootstrap. I clicked "Bootstrap Reocvery" and then tapped "Reboot Recovery". It rebooted me into ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.6. I made a backup and rebooted my phone. Now my Market wont work, I can't flash anything from Rom Mananger (the latest CW recovery is 2.5.0.7 not 2.5.0.6), my Email won't sync. Things are going haywire! Seems like my data isn't working or something? When I unrooted and unistalled everything, the Market worked again, but the Clockwork Recovery was still on my phone. How is that possible if Droid X Recovery Bootstrap is uninstalled?

I'm just full of issue's lately. Oh well, did a quick search and nothing seemed to come up so here we go. I downloaded cachemate tonight to have a one click cache cleaning tool. So I get it on my phone, run it real quick and no problem. Then when I try to get into the market it won't open. Everything else appears to function as normal, but the market hangs up on the loading screen. I think something with clearing the cache on the market may have messed up. Any thoughts? Or will I be installing a new rom tomorrow afternoon?

I recently got the Nexus One Update which provides amongst other things - pinch gestures.
One other unlucky surprise I got is that the app I am writing behaves differently. When I call finish() my activity's onDestroy() should be getting called. On 1.5, 1.6, 2.0 and 2.1 (before the nexus update) this works fine, but on 2.1 with the Nexus One it just doesn't call onDestroy. I have a button on one of the activity pages that when you click it, it is supposed to "finish" the activity and I verified it's calling finish(), but onDestroy() never gets called.
