Games :: Way To Get Physics Apps For Android?`
Jun 28, 2010
Are there any fun physics apps for android. Such as angry bird or ragdoll launcher available for the iphone/ipod? Also a game like fruit ninja where you play repeatedly for the sole purpose of beating a previous high score.

My mates at work have iphones/ipod touches and have been playing a game called Angry Birds - a wacky castle-destruction physics game where you fire birds through a slingshot in order to kill piggies. Is there anything similiar on Android?

I am hopefully getting an evo soon. Tomorrow if there are any available. Are there any games to download/buy from the market that have good physics. I saw demolished which doesn't look too bad. Any suggestions. Also any games that are very simple and well made that require nothing but for you to play repeatedly and beat a highs core you previously set.

I have a non-dev htc magic not unlocked and after a couple days of browsing the market I noticed there were only free apps. Does anyone know how I can access the stuff that cost money? Using demos is incredibly frustrating.

I've looked around for a physics engine that will play nicely with Android, but I've only been disappointed. In terms of performance, I had heard that jbox2d was the best bet, but (from my understanding) ever since Android SDK V1.0, the Dalvik VM's verifier has become very strict and rejects some of the key classes and refuses to run. This problem persists after using the dx tool (although I might be using the tool improperly). I know that the AndroidBox2D porting project exists to optimize jbox2d for the Android garbage collector, but the project page doesn't have any downloads and the gpl license isn't as attractive as the zlib license of the original. Does anyone have any tips for making jbox2d work in Eclipse, or have any recommendations for where I should start looking?

I want to try any physics engine for 2D and 3D in Android. So far I have learn that JBullet and JBox2d can be used, and JBox2d is a better one among them. But there in not much available documentation available and it even uses some concepts which are not supported by Android like Applets.Even some posts in various forums suggested that there are still no ideal physics engines available for Android. Are there any plans for implementing specific physics engines for Android? Can OpenGL be used for these ? Help me out in deciding which physics engine is best suitable for Android.

is there any way of modding how the scrolling behaves?
i mean the scrolling in gb was smooth and had almost non-friction while in ics it stops faster-more friction...
is there a way of modding the friction and other stuff that are involved in the scrolling behaviour?(i mean the android general scrolling of lists and pages... not the app specific scrolling engines)
root app that can change scrolling physics and add new stuff like bounciness and some cool other behaviours like a way of changing the elasticity and touch filtering...)
the market is full of nonsense apps that are clones of other useless apps or just junk that no one cares about... it would be cool to have more tools to customize our systems!

I am a newbie "thinking" of writing a physics game app. I did see some engines, but most of them have no good demos or docs. So can you guys please point me to any physics engine with lot of demos/sample codes?

Does anyone know of, or have implemented, a physics engine which runs smoothly in Android? I have spent the last couple of days trying Phys2D and JBox2D, however both perform very poorly - I am struggling to get even a few objects to simulate smoothly as frequent garbage collection spoils it. One question I do have is will these run smoother on an actual G1 device or is the performance of the emulator accurate?

You ever notice that their aren't any I don't want to say good but I guess big games on the android market. Like there are HUGE games on the iphone like my friend has Sims on his iphone now if you ever played that game you know its a big game. Also why do so many companies make apps for iphone only like there is a call of duty nazi zombie game on the iphone. Or like game fly has made an app only for iphone as much as I love android this just bothers the crap out of me!

Since getting my htc desire I have noticed a common theme. A lot of people wanting apps and games and feeling that there is not any decent developers making good apps. Here is what I would like to know
1. What is the highest you have paid for an app?
2. What makes you take a risk and buy an app vs using a free one?
3. How often do you look for apps?

I'd like to ask you if android 1.5 is compatible with most of apps, as the majority of apps and games I've found don't say anything at the description about If the app/game is compatible with cupcake. For example, will I be able to run Fifa 2010 on android 1.5? (device Lg gw620) Thanks! (and sorry for my silly questions )

I'm using a Motorola Milestone and my Visa card - I've checked and re-entered the details about 10 times and its all right, but when I press 'save' it still says "There were errors in the information you provided" and it doesn't let me buy the app. I know my card is working fine, it just worked on iTunes.

Has anyone got any idea why the cost of Android apps seems to be waaay more than the cost of iphone ones?A work colleague was saying that he downloaded Angry Birds (which I beleive is on its way to us) from the Apps store for 59p? I can't see it being 59p when it comes to Android?Yet all the apps in market seem to be more expensive than that, well the odd ones that are listed in sterling currency and not dollars.

I recently got my D1, and I'm noticing a lot of the games and apps I might be interested in buying are listed in Euros or British Pounds. I'm in the US, so how would I buy a game like labyrinth if I wanted to? Can I buy games in a different currency and pay for them in Also, don't mean to ask a stupid question, but is my phone set it's default location in Europe for some reason?

I know several of you wrote your apps and games before 1.6 was out or before you had a trusty N1 or Droid to test on. This led to many apps that rely on compatibility mode, that is, a width (when portrait) that is always 320 to make things work out. For 3D games, this made our games continue to work because when the games are run full resolution, our 1.5-compliant textures get scaled up automatically and become non power-of-two, causing white or black wherever a texture should be drawn (and then users complain that our games are nothing but white!)Well I wasn't very worried about it and I still have a few games in compatibility mode but recently a user contacted me, telling me that one of my games (Light Racer 3D) and a few other 3D games were all white on his Droid. I asked him if he had ever run any kind of tweak utility and he said that when he first got his phone, he installed an app called "Spare Parts" and played with some settings on it. Apparently one of the settings disabled compatibility mode and runs everything full-res, breaking many of our apps and games. Of course users don't know that's what they are doing. They think they are somehow unlocking their phone's potential that their evil carriers didn't give them access to. If only they understood!First of all, if you're the author of "Spare Parts", that's a bad idea. Please don't give users that option. Nothing good can come of it.Second, since there will probably always be some kind of tweak app out there that allows for disabling compatibility mode, it's in your best interest as a developer to update your old apps and make them work at every resolution. Counting on compatibility mode in the long term is a bad idea I think.
