Games :: Doodle Jump - Two Downsides
Feb 28, 2010
Doodle jump is finally here for android. But there are two downsides. First off, it costs $5.99 when it only costs $.99 for the iphone / ipod. Secondly, it is only available for android phones running 2.0 or better. Im not sure what to think. I've waited for this game for a while and it finally comes out, but its 6 dollars.

Does anyone have the doodle jump apk. for the eris running 2.1 v2 (idk if that matters) i know it cost money and i will purchase in the market whenever it becomes available (not only because of ethics and all that jazz, but also because of the updates) i have been waiting for this game for soo long but it is copy protected and therefore unavailable on the 2.1 updates. here it is btw, doodle Jump v1.0 Game for Android | Arcade & Action.

I've been waiting for Mega Jump (GetSet Games) to make its way over the the Android ever since the dev mentioned it on his website: Mega Jump. Derek van Vliet 3 weeks ago. "Indeed, we are planning to bring Mega Jump to Android" Then to my surprise (and enjoyment) I see this on the market by Camel Games: Hyper Jump

After three years of iPhones, I'm all set with that ecosystem and I want to move on the Android. I followed the Rachel UI since it was demoed last fall and have had an interest every since. Now that the phone is finally in the US I have a couple of questions:
1. Why is AT&T's No Commitment Pricing $349.99 while Sony Style's is $499.99? Neither price involves a new contract or extension.
2. I've read something about Android devices on AT&T being limited in terms of apps. Does that mean I can only install apps from the Marketplace? If that's the case, is it that big of a deal? I've never felt the need to jailbreak my iPhone, for what that's worth.
3. Other there any other downsides to getting the AT&T phone over a import/unlocked model?
4. Anything else an iOS convert should know?
I've poked around on these (and other) forums but couldn't really find black and white answers to my questions.

Im thinking of getting the HTC Desire. What do real users think of this phone. I have a iPhione 3GS and its a good phone but want to try out android. I assume that Android is a good stable OS? I had symbian phones years ago and they where a disaster. If you installed a number of programs it just stated to crash. Does Android suffer from this? How is sync handled as I hate using itunes.

I've been an Incredible owner since the day it was released, and I like the phone. But yesterday I saw a friend's Fascinate, and I'm considering going to it. I haven't been able to find anything with direct comparisons between the 2 phones. Has anyone here owned both and what's your opinion?

I live and use my HTC Magic in Australia on Vodafone. I'm considering rooting it so I can get Android 2.0 or 2.1. I've read though that doing this stops me from being able to use the GPS and a couple other things. Is this true? If so, what other downsides are there to rooting the Magic? And is there a way to get the best of both worlds? Maybe I can get an app that gives me GPS back?

I updated my X10i to 2.1 on Orange and am noticing that there's a problem with my Timescape (great app btw) where the phone suddenly goes from Timescape spline to the Home Screen without me touching anything. The phone seems much slower now in loading some apps - one main example is the text/mms messaging app.

In layout XML it is possible to specify android:imeOptions="actionNext" which adds Next button in virtual keyboard and by clicking on it - focus jumps to the next field.
How to do this programmatically - e.g. based on some event trigger focus to go to the next field?

I got the Behold 2 in the mail about four days ago, and it was working out pretty well for me. This was mostly because I'd previously been using an archaic piece of crap and hadn't had any experience with Android, so I was pretty blown away by the customization and yada yada yada. Touchwiz didn't even bother me because I've never seen Android without that UI. Then the battery issues started, which a few other people have obviously had judging by the threads on this forum. I was losing roughly 1% of battery power every 5 minutes without me even touching it, which is absolutely ridiculous. I followed the basic procedure and turned everything off, etc., and am recharging it now. So, waiting to see if it gets any better. But it seems like a hassle to have to constantly keep wifi disabled or to take all the widgets off the home screen......

I'm at my wits end with my 2nd Captivate. I returned the first one 2 weeks after purchase when it started to randomly shutdown. Then all was well for 2+ months and now my 2nd phone is starting to shut down randomly. To add insult to injury, after the latest OTA the phone is locking up, crashing the email app and freezing the messaging app. Sometimes I have to reboot just get email to start syncing again. Worse still, with Exchange PIN security enabled, the phone doesnt always accept the Enter/OK keypress after putting in the PIN so i'm stuck at the unlock screen. 100% stock never-rooted phone and no funky apps. I can't rely on this phone anymore, plus Exchange support is still mediocre. What do I do at this point? Exchange it for another unit? Wait for Froyo? Wait for WP7 phones? ATT has nothing that comes even close in terms of HW features. I came from a Samsung Blackjack 1, then 2, then Jack and all were great phones. This is such a letdown from Samsung.

I wasn't having much luck with the video recording, but saw a thread on how to improve the quality with a few modifications. Thread here: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/39706-higher-quality-video-recording.html. It suggested that I change the bps from 300,000 to 800,000. I couldn't really figure out how to do it, so I never did. I eventually installed the Sholes ROM from the Market and noticed an instant improvement in video quality. I checked my Astro file, (in the system/build file as in the link posted above), and noticed that it is now set to 900,000 bps, rather than 300,000 obviously this was changed automatically by the Sholes ROM. Just another confirmation that the Sholes was a great decision, for me at least. Here's a couple of videos to show the difference. This is a breakfast/storage room and my dog, Riley, who never knows exactly how to behave in front of the camera.

I have been trying to figure out for the longest time how you jump to a new line (i.e. add a carriage return or line feed) with the Droid X when text messaging? I've read that with other droids you can hit "shift" + "enter", but we dont have an enter key on the keyboard when text messaging.

How do I jump between running/open apps? Yesterday I was playing spades and chatting with a friend on google talk. It was terrible. I could not jump between the game and the chat. I had to hit home button, then menu then Google talk, to go back to spades I could hold the down home button and jump back to spades from the popup window. I could not do this with google talk from spades because google talk was not in the recently opened apps popup window.

I am one of the thousands having the signal issue with the phone. I noticed while in debug mode (##33284) that the Band # will jump from Sleep mode to CDMA. Could that be contributing to the weak and unstable signal issues with the phone? If so how do we change this?

I was watching a video on Android 2.0 (from the Google Conference, I believe) and the presenter show a feature that allowed you to pull up your contact list and simply start "drawing" the letters of the contact you are looking for and it will jump right to it, rather than having to scroll down. For example you would draw "e" then "r" and it would jump right to Eric.
I haven't seen this discussed anywhere else when testing the phone, so I thought either this feature didn't make it or it needs to be enabled or something.
Anyone else seen or know anything about this?

I have a WebView in my Android App that is loading an HTML string using the loadDataWithBaseURL() method. The problem is that local anchor links (<a href="#link">...) are not working correctly. When the link is clicked, it becomes highlighted, but does not scroll to the corresponding anchor.
This also does not work if I use the WebView's loadUrl() method to load a page that contains anchor links. However, if I load the same URL in the browser, the anchor links do work.
Is there any special handling required to get these to work for a WebView?
I am using API v4 (1.6).
There isn't much to the code, here are the relevant parts of some test code I've been working with:

Seriously, emulation is not good for performance, but most roms running on gensoid look and play better that games developed for Android. Sonic 3 looks lovely, runs at 60fps and never stutters. It even seems to look higher rez than most Android apps.Android platformer games are nowhere near as good looking or smooth. So what the hell is going on? The hardware on top end Android phones (Desire, galaxy etc) is clearly capable.
