Android :: Different Versions Of Searchable.xml For Different Sdk Targets?

Nov 3, 2009

I have implemented a SearchManager which make uses of a searchable.xml with all the settings and put it in the xml/ directory.

I tried to create a new directory called xml_v4/ to add some attributes (the android:includeInGlobalSearch ie) which isn't supported in sdk3/1.5 but the xml directory seems not to be supported by the dir_suffixes.

How do I deal with this?

Android :: How Does PackageManager Detect What Architecture APK Targets?

Aug 11, 2010

i'm currently trying to specifically target ARMv7 custom hardware and I'm facing issues when trying to install the APK. When I try doing "adb install app.apk" Logcat informs me that: W/PackageManager( 1062): Native ABI mismatch from package file And does not install the APK. With searching I was able to trace down that the problem might have something to do with the architectures not matching on the APK and the platform. Is this it? How does the PackageManager find out the architecture from the APK file? I'm guessing it's not trying to execute the binary or anything, it just checks the files meta data? If so, is there a place in the APK where this information is located? Or am I completely hitting blank here and I should look somewhere else?

Android :: Multiple Versions Of Same Class File For Different SDK Targets?

Nov 5, 2009

This is for an Android application but I'm broadening the question to Java as I don't know how this is usually implemented. Assuming you have a project that targets a specific SDK version. A new release of the SDK is backward incompatible and requires changing three lines in one class. How is this managed in Java without duplicating any code(or by duplicating the least amount)?

I don't want to create two projects for only 3 lines that are different. What I'm trying to achieve in the end is a single executable that'll work for both versions. In C/C++, you'd have a #define based on the version. How do I achieve the same thing in Java?

Android :: Is Binary Representation Of Native Types Guaranteed Same On All Targets?

Aug 5, 2010

I"m planning to store my data in a binary format as a resource, read it into an int buffer and basically pass it straight down to a native C++ function, which might cast it to a struct/class and work with it. No pointers, obviously, just ints and floats. The question is - what kind of fixing up do I need to do? I suppose that I need to check ByteOrder.nativeOrder(), figure out if it's big Indian or little Indian, and perform byte-swapping if need be. Other than that, floats are presumably guaranteed to be expected in IEEE 754 format? Are there any other caveats I'm completely overlooking here? (Also - since I'm compiling using the NDK, I know what architecture it is already (ARMv7-A, in my case), so can I technically skip the Indian shenanigans and just take the data the way it is?)

HTC Desire :: Camera Application To Shoot High Speed Videos?

Jun 17, 2010

I am a big fan of mythbusters and i'll bet that many of your are too. I like all those high speed camera shoots and i was thinking if would it be possible to make an app to use the camera to shoot high speed videos. I am not thinking like professional high speed video (those go up to millions of fps) but more like up to 1000 or 500. The desire should be able to shoot hd 720p video (lets hope with the next update) and may be would be possible to to make lower resolution high speed videos. I think the cpu is enough, but would the camera be able?

Some questions we have for Android users and developers:

1. Is the game too easy, too hard, or about right?
2. Is the game play understandable?
3. Is it easy to navigate between different parts of the app (game, settings, instructions)?
4. Is the game fun?
5. Is the price right for the full version?
6. Should features be more limited or more available for the Lite version?
7. Would you buy the full version?

Games :: 1 Minute (Logic) Game For Android Market

Mar 7, 2010

I'd like to announce the release on the Android Market of our last creation: 1 Minute Game. The main concept is very simple. The computer shows puzzles based on numbers, shapes and colours: the player must solve them and touch the correct answer to go to the next round, trying to be as fast as possible. We implemented 3 different modes that must be unlocked by playing more and more. You can play games under the "Training" areas so to train yourself and challenge your friends locally (there are 6 slots to store the profiles of the players).

Online Challenge
But the core of 1 Minute Game is the online challenge, which allows the players (once per day) to play a special match and to send the result to an online leader board. Each score shows also the nationality selected by each player try to get your country at top of the ranking. The ranking is visible both through the application and visiting the web site of the game.

Free DLC
In order to make the game more appealing and let you enjoy it for more time, we are developing new games to be released for free in the next versions of the application. For example, this morning (it's a matter of minutes) we will release the version 1.1 which contains a brand new game in the training section: The intruder. In each round, all of the objects shown on the screen share the same characteristic (same shape, colour, number or animation) except for one: that's the Intruder!

New games of logic will be released once they are completed and fully tested through future news.

LITE version
There is also a LITE version in the Market: 1 Minute Game LITE (limited number of levels, no online challenge and 2 slots to store the users' profiles), so you can try it and see if it is worth to buy the Full one. This LITE version includes the additional training "The Intruder" as well.

DOWNLOAD
the game can be downloaded from the Android Market. Just search for its name or click on these links with the browser of your Android smartphone:

I can't see it being 59p when it comes to Android?Yet all the apps in market seem to be more expensive than that, well the odd ones that are listed in sterling currency and not dollars.

Games :: Market And App Store

Nov 17, 2010

Do Apple App Store and the Goodle Android Market have fees for putting apps up (like say, they take 10% of each sale for themselves)? Also, when you put them up, are there options you can choose as to what payment options are accepted? IE, I recently tried to purchase the game Snail Buster but it would not accept Discover Card. With that second question, what "options" do developers have when submitting apps to the store/market?
