Android :: Installing Android 1.6 - On Headless Linux Server

Nov 14, 2009

How to install Android 1.6+ on a headless Linux server. Our continuous integration build machine is a headless server in the cloud.

Following the instructions, I downloaded android-sdk_r3-linux.tgz, untarred it, added its location to my path, and tried to update. This what I got:

" root@savendipity:/usr/local/share/android-sdk-linux/tools# android update sdk

No command line parameters provided, launching UI. See 'android --help' for operations from the command line.

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no swt-pi- gtk-3550 or swt-pi-gtk in swt.library.path, java.library.path or the jar file

+ stack trace "

I don't know whether this message means that it is not possible to update the SDK without a GUI, that my command line is wrong, or that my environment is missing something that would allow me to install from the command line.

Android :: Setup Sdk From Command Line On Headless Server?

Apr 21, 2010

So far Ive managed to download and install the SDK and its in my PATH. Problem now is that I can't run "android update sdk" since it expects to be connected to a display and Im connected to a remote headless server through ssh (its a build server so there's no desktop env). Is there a command-line option for the android tool that tells it to run without X ?

Android :: How To Send Key Events To Headless Emulator In Instrumentation Test?

Jul 9, 2010

We are currently working on an instrumentation test suite which runs on our build server, but while the tests pass on a dev machine using a normal Android emulator, the builds fail on the build server since there we only run a headless emulator with the -no-window flag. The failure occurs when trying to invoke the InstrumentationTestCase.sendKeys() method to programatically open the options menu.We also tried to let the instrumentation test app and the app under test share the same Linux user ID using android:sharedUserId and run in the same process (android:process -- we weren't sure if that was already the case), but still no luck. Does this mean it's currently impossible to run instrumentations which contain key events on a headless emulator, or are we missing something?

HTC Incredible :: Rooting Tip For Linux And Linux Live Booting

Jun 19, 2010

i successfully got into adb in recovery mode fairly easily on my ubuntu 10.4 laptop using the following method- this should also work for a linux live boot from a usb flash drive

in one terminal tail and follow log messages
~$ tail -f /var/log/messages

In another terminal run the loop

Then

1. plugin usb and keep it plugged in
2. remove battery, eject sd card.
3. put battery in
4. press vol- and power
5. after around 6 seconds, your terminal with the log will show something like "new high speed USB..."
6. press vol- to select recovery
7. press the power button
8. IMPORTANT- as soon as you see a new log entry (something like "USB disconnect"), pop in the sd card

check your loop terminal for adb. if it doesn't work, repeat at step 2

Android :: Android - Based On Linux - Can Run Anything That Can Run On A Linux Box

Apr 16, 2009

I know android is based on linux, does this mean it can run any and all linux applications? If so has anyone tried to run anything like wine? I also noticed that by default you cant run apps directly from sd card, but i saw a modification on a site that lets you change it so you can, so technically speaking is there any limit on the size of sd the G1 can handle?

Android :: Is SPP Supported By Droid BT API?

May 10, 2010

I'm a little bit confused about supporting SPP by Android API(from level 5). As I understand it wasn't supported in versions before API level 5 what we can read in discussion below.(First Nick's post) http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa. But it was in October and after that we have APi from 5 to 7 now released. And my question is do all these API's support SPP? As I read in other discussions some phones makes more difficulties than others. Which mobile phone you can recommend?

Android :: Pragma - No-cache Not Supported?

Sep 3, 2010

I work on an application to display a remote page in a webview. The page contains a simple input form and an image. The image is updated automatically by server using specific header. The page is never displayed.

Searching on the web to find a way to resolve this issue.

I read this : http://remotedroid.net/blog/2009/11/13/android-browser-caching/ "Pragma: no-cache, and all the other server-side headers also have no effect as far as I can tell."

Do you have a work around ?

Android :: Supported Media Formats

Jul 2, 2009

I've been using MediaPlayer for playing some sounds and I've found no way to get hold of a list of supported mime types at runtime. I was hoping for something along the lines of MIDP's javax.microedition.media.Manager.getSupportedContentTypes() but there doesn't seem to be anything that achieves this on Android. The only thing that there seems to be is a web page that lists supported media types (at the moment and on the small amount of devices available).

http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html

Does anyone know of a way of enumerating the mime types?

Android :: RemoteViews And SetEnabled - When Is It Supported

Jul 23, 2010

I have a widget, working happily on 2.2, which includes this line:

When I run it on 1.5, I get this:

CODE:...........

Unsuprisingly, the widget doesn't appear. But I'm not quite sure what is not supported here. RemoteViews.setBoolean is documented as supported since API level 3, and ImageButton.setEnabled has been there forever.

Is there some separate question about which functions setEnabled is prepared to do business with ? Or, if not, what could possibly be wrong here ?

Android :: Is IPv6 Over Wifi Interface Supported In SDK?

Apr 20, 2010

I'm hearing that IPv6 is supported by android, at least over the wifi interface, but I cannot do anything with IPv6 through the SDK at all. I am running Android 2.1 on an N1. I can see that at the OS level, the wifi interface has a link local inet6 address: ufo:~ newton$ adb shell $ cat /proc/net/if_inet6 0000000000000 0000000000000000001 01 80 10 80 lo fe80000000000000022376fffe8d1e63 0c 40 20 80 eth0 although ifconfig does not show it: $ ifconfig eth0 eth0: ip 192.168.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0 flags [up broadcast running multicast] If in Java I call getInetAddresses on a java.net.NetworkInterface, I only get the inet4 address. As I'd expect from the above, I cannot connect via any Java APIs to another link local IPv6 host on the same wifi lan Depending on my approach I get "socket level is invalid", a bad socket options error, host unreachable, or timeouts. However, I can not find any developer documentation on what the Twitter Intent for Android is called. Can someone provide a short snippet of sample code that includes that text of the Intent to use?

Prior there was lack of those features (http://www.mail-archive.com/android-developers@googlegroups.com/msg60143.html), but in Android 2.1, first two should be supported, but I am not sure about 3 and 4. Is there any list of supported features or we have to test it on our own?
