View 11 RepliesSo now I fully optimized my galaxy mini, and I have cyanogenmod 7 mebitek slim, I did everything to optimize it, installed V6, overclock 825 Mhz, killed every unnecessary task, even killed launcher by THIS way, have 230 MB free RAM of 279(true free about 205 MB) and now in RAM when I play a game there is just android system task and dialer task, and I was wondering, is there a way to kill dialer, because when I kill it with Task Killer ProMax Mini and select root kill, it kills dialer, but it auto-restart all the time...
So, is there a way to kill it without after killing auto-restart?
I made a tasker profile to scan face in every 15 seconds by using another plugin (smart stay). Some situations it gives "unable connect camera" error. When I run restart camera app I can fix this issue.
How do I fix "unable connect camera" error by using terminal command. Because I planned to run that command right after (after 5 seconds delay) tasker trigger face scan action.
For an unknown reason, I can't get my application leaving properly so that when I push the home button and the app icon again I resume where I was in the app....But I would like to force the application to restart at the first activity...I suppose this has something to do with onDestroy() or maybe onPause() but I don't know what to do..
View 4 Replies View RelatedActivity 1 starts a Service, using the standard Intent. Activity 1 starts Activity 2. Then, Activity 1 gets finished().
Now, there's only Activity 2.
How does Activity 2 kill the Service, since that Intent was generated in Activity 1? I don't want to pass the Intent everywhere...
In an Android application, we usually got the "Force Closed" error if we didn't get the exceptions right. How can I restart my application automatically if it force closed? Is there any specific permission is used for this?

so i made it "service".
my question is: is there anyway to prevent from the user to kill this service? (even if he uses third party app)..
How do I restart my service automatically when my service gets killed or crashes, until and unless I myself de register the service.

let's say I have an activity that starts a service which is simply a counter and counter value is reflected on activity UI , when I navigate away from this .I want this counter to be continue and when I get back to Activity I want to see counter count.so the question is
how can a reconnect with the started service and then if I want to kill it ? how can I know the service is already started?
One of the feature on cyanogenmod most useful to me was the ability to kill any app via the long press of the back button..
Now I'm using a (beta) rom of Ice Cream and missing this feature so much.
Is there any app or other way to add this? obviously the phone (HTC Desire) is rooted and s-off.
Based on some quick tests, I've noticed the following: if you kill the Google Messaging Service, Chrome to Phone (a.k.a. Send to Phone) will stop working.
This seems rather obvious, but I had been in the habit of killing the Google Talk Service (GTalk) prior to Froyo. After Froyo, it looks like the service was renamed/replaced with Google Messaging Service.
I suspect that killing the Google Messaging Service could affect other Google services too.
Some Android application restarts automatically when i kill process manually. How this can be possible?
Is there anyone who know how to do like this on Android platform?
I have a Service and a PreferenceActivity that allows the user to edit some preferences. I would like to restart the Service once the user is done with the PreferenceActivity.
I understand that I can register onChange listeners for individual preference changes, but I do not want to restart the Service as each preference changes. I would like to do this when the user is done editing all the preferences. Short of having a "Apply Now" button in the PreferenceActivity, I do not see a straightforward way of doing this.
Due to overwhelming user complaints I have decided try allowing users of my Android application to move it to the SD card as per the official documentation. However, a core feature of my application requires a background service to be continuously running. When someone who has moved my app to their SD card mounts their SD card for whatever reason, my background service will be killed.
That's all okay by me, as long as I can restart the service at the first available opportunity. Unfortunately, despite the install-location guide claiming I can use the Broadcast Intent ACTION_EXTERNAL_APPLICATIONS_AVAILABLE to detect when the SD card is remounted locally, the documentation for that flag itself, this newsgroup discussion, and my own testing show that this broadcast is not delivered to the applications which become available. Only applications which have not been moved to the SD card get the Broadcast Intent. Is there any way to restart my background service without waiting for the user to open my app after the SD card is remounted?
I have a single Activity application, within it I have a service which creates an AlarmManager and sends a broadcast to a broadcast Receiver.If the activity which starts the services dies, (ie. divide by zero), the broadcast receiver stops the old service which created the AlarmManager.It works the first time. The second time, it does not.It seems like the AlarmManager is still active but the broadcast receiver is no longer receiving. It works great once!

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn the 1.6 API, is there a way to ensure that the onStart() method of a Service is called after the service is killed due to memory pressure? From the logs, it seems that the "process" that the service belongs to is restarted, but the service itself is not. I have placed a Log.d() call in the onStart() method, and this is not reached.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an app widget that uses a Service to handle updates (as per the SDK sample). If a task killer kills the service, the widget obviously stops updating. Is there any way I can notify the widget that the service has been killed so it can attempt to restart it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am rooted and rom'd and everything works great. But I have noticed that when using app killers sometimes (maybe 1 out of 10 times) When I kill all apps my SenseUI restarts. So I've started looking at the apps that are being killed before killing them to see if I could find out what is causing this but everything seems to be normal and I cant figure out why this is happening.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a problem to start/create Activity in landscape mode. My Activity need to start in landscape mode and be used in landscape mode by users. So far, I used setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE) to force screen orientation of my Activity to landscape mode in onCreate() method.
In addition to this screen mode requirement, my application need to start another background thread in onResume() method, and this thread takes some seconds in order to finish an initialization process, and it is not desirable to to stop/restart this thread's service during the initialization process.
However setRequestedOrientation (ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE) forces my Activity restart in a very little while (means onCreate->onResume->onPause->onStop are executed twice at the first place). As a result, my background thread be stopped/restarted during the initialization process, and this makes me a mess at this moment.
I am developing a ToDo reminder type of app for android. on creation of a new reminder an alarm and vibrator scheduler is created with a toast. This works on intents and broadcasts and is pretty straight forward stuff with putextras using the reminder id from the db. My problem is, if some one restart the phone, i guess all the scheduled alarm and vibrator tasks for the reminder will be killed. Once the phone restart again how to recreate the scheduler tasks.

I have the startup auditor and Task Panel apps. I want to try and setup the phone to always have as much memory available as possible. Most of them are pretty obvious but there are a few I'm not sure of. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of services/processes/etc. that we can safely kill off and/or set for auto-kill/disable at startup? Edit: One I was curious about is Google Partner Setup. I have killed it off without any issues through Task Panel. But would having it on the auto-kill list be OK?
View 7 Replies View RelatedEssentially my problem is this, I open my Activity. It binds to a local service that "appears" to be connected. I get a force close when I press the back button:
"IllegalArgumentException: Service not registered" when unbind is called in my onPause method...
public void onPause() { super.onPause(); if (isFinishing()) {
if (mConnection != null){ Log.i(TAG,"onPause, mConnection" + mConnection.toString());
mDbS.unbindService(mConnection); }else { Log.i(TAG,"mConnection is null");
} The service is bound in onCreate // bind to our sdCard database using our Service Connection
mServiceIntent = new Intent(this,DatabaseService.class);
if(bindService(mServiceIntent, mConnection, Context.BIND_AUTO_CREATE)){
Log.e(TAG, "service bound"); }else{ Log.e(TAG, "service not bound");
} bindService is returning true.
My Service connection is as follows. onServiceConnected is called and goes to completion. onService Disconnected is never called (presumably because my service is in same process)
private ServiceConnection mConnection = new ServiceConnection() {
public final String TAG = "LoadView.ServiceConnection"; //$NON- NLS-1$
public void onServiceConnected(ComponentName className, IBinder service) {
mDbS = ((LocalBinder<DatabaseService>) service).getService(); .....
stuff not relevant.... Log.i(TAG, "finished onServiceConnected");
//$NON-NLS-1$ } public void onServiceDisconnected(ComponentName className) {
Log.e(TAG, "onServiceDisconnectedCalled"); //$NON-NLS-1$ } };
The only thing I do a little different is that I don't use an inner class in my service for the Binder object - I use a separate class. This is mostly because I have several databases and wanted code I could reuse and set up simply rather than worry about all the ins and outs and memory leak issues.
import android.os.Binder; import android.util.Log;
public class LocalBinder<S> extends Binder { private String TAG = "LocalBinder";
private S mService; @SuppressWarnings("unused") private LocalBinder() {
} public LocalBinder(S service){ mService = service;
} public S getService() { return mService;
} public void finalize(){ mService = null;
try { //TODO reinstate this after Issue 8046 is resolved
//super.finalize(); } catch (Throwable e) { Log.e(TAG,"Unable to finalize Binder");
} } }
I have a service which runs in the background when the user starts using my app. I am using it to do some posts to our server. I always close my service by calling stopSelf as soon as the posts have been made or failed.
But I recently observed two times that my service did not stop. I saw that in the running services in settings on my device that it has been sitting there for over a few hours.
So I was trying to see if I can alternatively set a timer using which I can force the service to stop after a few minutes no matter what.
I've had my htc hero (sprint) for about a month and half now and there has been a major problem i've been dealing with that i cant seem to find a solution to anywhere. everytime i reboot my phone, it wont work after the reboot. i cant get service, only wifi works, i cant access system updates, cant access my phone dialer. nothing works that requires date or service.
what i've tried to do is go to applications manager and ive been able to delete all the data from the google apps. this actually gave my phone service again after reboot, but i was never again able to sync my phone with google. meaning i couldnt get my contacts back, no gmail, and no market.
what ive been doing is having to do a complete hardware reset each time where i would then have to reset up my google account and re-download all my apps, needless to say this takes a lot of time each time. everytime i reboot, or when the battery drains, this happens.
Is there a way to notify an activity/service of a force-close request right before it gets killed?
I mean when the user hits the force close button in Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage applications>app name>Force Close.
I have noticed that when aps restart my phone, it takes about 15 to 20 seconds to restart When i Power down, it takes MINUTES!Does anyone know of simple restart app I could use to avoid this? If not, anyone know someone who could make one?
