Android :: SavedInstanceState - HashMap

Mar 12, 2009

How do i put a Obect(or a HashMap) into the Bundle?

Android :: savedInstanceState -  HashMap

Android :: SavedInstanceState Textview Text

Jul 28, 2009

My activity displays a text view where the text is constantly changed with updates from a LocationListener. When returning to the activity after navigating away, the text view comes back with the savedInstanceState state but any changes to the text in the text view dont. How do i get the saved instance to save my text view with its current text when navigating away?

Exerts from my layout and values files.

CODE:...........

My activity then changes the text in the MGTextView.

Android :: UI State Information - Used In Super.onCreate - Bundle SavedInstanceState - Stored

Nov 7, 2010

Where is the UI state information (used in super.onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState)) stored and how can it be deleted from another app or command line on a rooted phone?

I need to delete the user data (username, password) of both the native Facebook app (com.facebook.katana) and the stock browser on Android (com.android.browser) on a rooted phone via command line (which I call from my own app) or elsewhere from my own app.

This is what I'm calling:

rm /data/data/com.android.browser/cache/webviewCache/* rm /data/data/com.android.browser/databases/* killall -9 com.android.browser

rm /data/data/com.facebook.katana/cache/webviewCache/* rm /data/data/com.facebook.katana/databases/* killall -9 com.facebook.katana

After I kill the facebook process, I check the running processesand there is no FB process running anymore. I then restart FB via long-press on home and choosing the FB app. Previous username/password still show on the login screen (= same screen as I left it before I killed the app). When I then press 'back' on the device, and then start the app again via home long-press / select FB, the login screen is empty.

Where do the values for username/password come when I start FB again in the first place? I assume that the login activity still retrieves the savedInstanceState, but how could that be avoided - or else, where are those UI states actually stored, in order to delete them? Shouldn't the restarted app, after all it's processes are killed, already be in a new lifecycle?

Same problem is with the stock browser: if i leave the browser and I'm on the login page of for example gmail.com where the username/password is entered (but form not submitted yet), then killing the browser process, the values (username) entered into the form will still be there after restarting the app again after it's been killed.

Android :: Pass Data Between Activities - HashMap Of WeakReferences To Objects

Nov 16, 2009

I am trying to pass a custom object to one activity from another. What I would like to use is the HashMap of WeakReferences, but the description isn't clear, at least to me. From above URL: "A HashMap of WeakReferences to Objects. You can also use a HashMap of WeakReferences to Objects with Long keys. When an activity wants to pass an object to another activity, it simply puts the object in the map and sends the key (which is a unique Long based on a counter or time stamp) to the recipient activity via intent extras. The recipient activity retrieves the object using this key."

MyObject object = new MyObject(); HashMap map = new HashMap(); WeakReference reference = new WeakReference(object); map.put(reference.hashCode(), reference);
Intent i = new Intent(myIntent); i.putExtra(map);

I know this is probably way off but I can't figure out how this is intended to be implemented based on the description. Are the keys hashcodes, user defined, or what? It sounds like all that is passed is a HashMap containing the key values but how is the object retrieved with just the key? I couldn't find any code examples or useful documentation on this method of passing objects

Android :: HashMap / ArrayList And Fastest Way To Iterate Collections On Android

Jan 17, 2010

Simple question, what is the fastest way to iterate through collections on Android? I generally use collection.iterator(); and the iterator.next() to iterate through the whole collection. Is it any faster to drop that and iterate with "old" (and I use the term old loosely) for( int i=0; i<collection.size(); i++) ? I was thinking of getting the collection.size() into a separate variable so I wouldn't be asking the collection it's size all the time so basically the for loop would turn into something like this: int size = collection.size(); for( int i=0; i<size; i++ ) collection.get(i); Any better? Speed wise, I mean. I'm in a point where I need to get every possible inch of speed for my application. Or maybe allocate everything into Lists in the start, and once I know the correct amount of data, I turn all that into arrays and drop the Lists so I can have array[index] (Log(1) access, right? OH wait. how did this go again access instead of having the "slow" method calls in between like .get(); when accessing the data in the collection.

And what about getters & setters for Classes? Like let's have a Vector2D class that contains obvious integer x and integer y values. What is the fastest way to access them inside the class? Have them as public and just straight Vector2D.x = someValue; or through getters and setters? I've had much debate with my tutor about this (working on my final year project) but not to get too much into details of it. Also all links for further Android application optimisation are more than welcome and greatly appreciated (I read the googles docs on this already). Plus if you have found some really good tricks / quirks on Android to punish the device even more so it runs faster, do share, do share. Please be gentle on me, I'm such a beginner in all things Android that I feel absolutely dumb as a boot for asking these kind of things. I come from strong C++ / Java background but getting the extra inch of speed for everything on Android is so different than optimizing code for PC side and not that you even have to do it on PC side that often.

Android :: Android WebView Not Loading A JavaScript File But Android Browser Loads It Fine

Jun 3, 2010

I'm writing an application which connects to a back office site. The backoffice site contains a whole slew of JavaScript functions, at least 100 times the average site. Unfortunately it does not load them, and causes much of the functionality to not work properly. So I am running a test. I put a page out on my server which loads the FireBugLite javascript text. Its a lot of javascript and perfect to test and see if the Android WebView will load it. The WebView loads nothing, but the browser loads the Firebug Icon. What on earth would make the difference, why can it run in the browser and not in my WebView? Any suggestions.
More background information, in order to get the stinking backoffice application available on a Droid (or any other platform except windows) I needed to trick the bakcoffice application to believe what's accessing the website is Internet Explorer. I do this by modifying the WebView User Agent.Also for this application I've slimmed my landing page, so I could give you the source to offer me aid. package ksc.myKMB;

Android :: Moto Android Stuck On Android Splash Screen

Feb 5, 2010

I am having a bit of a problem with my Android. So what happened was I downloaded "DroidRootPro" from the market. I rooted my phone with this, installed the 800MHZ ROM image, rebooted and the phone came up great. I was actually surprised on how fast it became. Once the phone came back up, I tried installing one of the custom themes that came with that app (I know I should have left it alone). The phone than rebooted and I was never able to bring it back up. It gets stuck in this endless loop where it tries to boot but doesnt get past the "Droid" splash screen, it just keeps rebooting every time.

Things I have tried:

-Wipe data/factory reset (in recovery mode), no go.
-Wipe cach partition, no go
-Restore from a "nandroid" backup, no go. I tried pretty much every combination of restores and am unable to bring the phone up.

Is there anyway I can download the factory image that comes with the phone, put it on an SD card and restore to that? I have looked all over but cant find any information on this.

Android :: How To Reference R.java Of Other Apps In Android - Like Com.android.music

Sep 29, 2010

I am trying to develop an app to supplement the built-in music player. I've used git to download the com.android.music package and looked around at its code. I can launch the music player by copying some of its code and launching activities with intents.

Now what I need to do is get a handle to its current view. In the MusicUtils.java file, I see a line that says

View nowPlayingView = a.findViewById(R.id.nowplaying);

I'd like to do the same thing. Only I don't have access to the R.java file, so I can't write e.g. R.id.nowplaying. How do I do this? How do I reference the music players R.java? I do know the R.java stuff is declared public so that shouldn't be a problem. Right?

Is it even possible? I saw this related question and am now wondering: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2437271/how-to-load-com-android-music-code-into-eclipse-and-compile

I'm working against the Android 2.2 SDK, but it'd be helpful to know if the answer is different for older versions such as 1.5.
