I was just wondering a few things
1. I'm getting the Nexus One and putting the SIM Card from my other Rogers phone into it... will there be any problems/pitfalls i should look out for?
2. As far as applications go, if I don't have a data plan, will i be paying out the rear end to use apps such as facebook, last.fm etc?
3. Is there an app that lets you text/call for free?
4. Do you have to have a data plan to download apps when not in range of WiFi (if so how much does it cost to browse the store and download an app?)
5. Does it cost anything to use the GPS (Do you need a GPS plan?)
6. Is there an app that lets you track Text messaging usage, call time, data usage etc?
Any one can help interpret the relation between the table "contacts" and "raw_contacts"?Is it one-to-one or one-to-many relation?I am puzzled because the SDK seems indicate it is one-to-many relation but after I checkout all data from the database table,I found it is one-to-one relation. And is there any detailed relation diagram describing android database tables?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am a current iPhone 3gs user migrating over to Android this Friday and getting the Evo 4g. Now, all iPhone/iPod touch screen sizes are the same and all the hardware specs are the same for the most part, but with Android you all kinds of resolutions, screen sizes, processors, etc etc...
Are all apps made for Android stretched to accomodate bigger screen sizes? For instance, I have played with my friend's Droid on Verizon and the screen is 3.7" at a resolution of 854x480 and he has showed me games on it like Gameloft's NOVA which is a full 3D first person shooter. So his phone essentially has a bigger resolution slightly than the HTC EVO 4G but smaller screen size (3.7" vs. 4.3"). So would the same game be stretched to fit my phone?
I'm wondering with different apps, are there any conflicts in relation to different spec phones?
I am trying to learn opengl stuff on Android. In the gl.gltranslatef(x,y,z) call, I am shifting my texture by some units in the +ve x direction. But I am unable to find the number of pixels does 1 unit of x belong to?
Here is what I am doing:
I call gl.glviewport(0,0,width,height); // This will set my rectangle with 0,0 as lowerleft corner and then extend it to accommodate width and height.
Then
I call to gl.glfrustrum(-5,5,-7,7,3,7); // I am little confused how this call is using the dimensions I set in gl.glviewport.
How will -5 to 5 units from left to right in the above call, translate to pixels on the screen of android?
I mean if width = 320 and height = 533 pixels, then what will be the number of pixels occupied on the screen due to the gl.glfrustrum call?
I am experimenting in the gl.gltranslatef call by specifying xshift as 5.0, but it does not translate the bitmap at the right or left corner of the screen, when I increase it to 6, part of it is still visible on the screen.
I am searching for the maximum number of units (in terms of X) which will represent extreme corners of my android phone screen.
Im on 3 and as of yet there is no update to 2.1 so im on 1.5 ..now this maybe the most stupid question ever but in the sticky slug posted it says coustom ROM'S and all of them are 2.1 does that mean i have to have 2.1 update to be able to use one of these ROM'S, if not what are your recommendations for a custom ROM ie what one from the list is best and why . what will they do/ what do they do , will it improve this already good phone and in which ways , also if i am able to put one onto the phone how do i do it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know how to use the MediaRecorder to API to capture video?
I am writing an application where I want to be able to capture video. I am trying to use the MediaRecorder API in 1.5, which is supposed to support video capture. However, there are no examples in the documentation on how to use this API for video (only for audio, and that works perfect). Basically what I do is the following:
CODE:...............
This gives me the following error: E/CameraInput( 37): No surface is available for display E/MediaRecorder( 7609): prepare failed: -2147483648
OK, so I have to have a surface to preview the video? Could be useful I guess, but not something I really need.
Could I use the VideoView widget for this, or is that only for playback?
Or am I supposed to use a SurfaceView to preview the video? I saw someone use that to capture images, but they used android.hardware.Camera to open the camera and capture a frame, and did not use MediaRecorder.
HOw to capture video, or even better have some example code?
I want to use AudioRecord and AudioTrack classes(in SDK 1.5) in my program. Where can I find how to use it. Is there any API demo program for this?. If not it is greatly appreciated if someone can post a sample code in this forum.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to get the stream and send it to server directly by using MediaRecorder.
Actually, I am able to record the video, and able to store it into sdcard. Now I want to it to stream (live stream) to server rather than storing it.
I'm using MediaRecorder.setOutputFile(FileDescriptor fd) over a UNIX socket, so that local code on the device can see the encoded stream in real time (for video streaming out).
What I observed is that the encoder doesn't write encoded frames continuously, when they are produced, but by "bursts", exactly one second apart. I tried both containers (THREE_GPP and MPEG_4) and all three available codecs (MPEG_4_SP, H263, H264), the behavior is always the same. This one-second period is notably unrelated to framerate or bitrate, so it is not flushing by size; rather, it seems to be flushing by time (possibly to mask SD card write overheads ? Bummer, I 'm not using the SD here !). Is it a known limitation ? Is there a known workaround ?
Is anyone else experiencing poor playback quality on files recorded with MediaRecorder? Is there a way to improve this?

PS. In order to figure out the problem, I suppressed the audio recording, and the SDcard is installed in the phone.code...
I wrote a code to record audio of call conversation using MediaRecorder.
how can i know whether a MediaRecorder is in running state or not, to stop the recording.
like
CODE:............
Above code is just an example.. If you do not understand my question, please tell me.. i will explain clearly with actual code..
What all i want to know is "In which state the MediaRecorder is?" -> recording/released/prepared/initial/etc..
When I record audio with the MediaRecorder, I am consistently getting .65 seconds of dead space before the recording starts. It appears as if the file gets passed for some reason. Does anyone know why and better yet, how to eliminate this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy application uses AudioTrack in streaming mode and AudioRecord simultaneously. My problem is that I start them at the same time, but I have no guarantee that they will actually start playback ecording in the same timestamp. The reason I need this kind of accuracy is because I use echo cancellation (subtracting audio played to speaker from the recording). My echo canceller doesn't require an exact delay, but the delay introduced between AudioTrack and AudioRecord moves in the range of 250ms (between different runs), and that's too much - each run is different because they start themselves asynchronously. The API doesn't provide me a way to make sure they start in the same time, so I thought about measuring this starting delay somehow and then using it in my calculation.Does anyone have an idea how to do that, utilizing their API or in any other way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have a Loop back program for testing Audio on Android devices. It uses AudioRecord and AudioTrack to record PCM audio from the Mic and play PCM audio out the earpiece. So as you can see in the creation of the AudioTrack and AudioRecord the Encoding is supplied via the AudioFormat but this only allows 16 bit or 8 bit PCM.I have my own G711 Codec implementation now and I want to be able to encode the audio from the Mic and decode it going into the EarPiece, So I have encode(short lin[], int offset, byte enc[], int frames) and decode(byte enc[], short lin[], int frames) methods but I'm unsure as to how to use them to encode and the decode the audio from the AudioRecord and AudioTrack.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having an issue with using AudioRecord for Android. I've read as much as I can find online about it, but I cannot seem to get a good initialization. I have tried the Android 2.2 emulator, 1.5 emulator and my phone, an HTC Incredible running Froyo. The emulators and my phone fail initialization. I've tried sampling rates of 8000, 11025, and 44100, formats of CHANNEL_IN_MONO/STEREO and CHANNEL_CONFIGURATION_MONO/STEREO, 8bit and 16bit encoding (8 bit makes the getMinBufferSize fail), and Audio Source of MIC and DEFAULT. All result in the variable test becoming 0 after running a get state(failed initialization). It seems from everything I've read that this should correctly initialize the object. I have played around with the multiplier on buflen, to have it range from 512 (the result of the function) to 102400 because I had heard that HTC devices require something above 8192. For testing my problem I made a new, small project that recreates my problem as simply as possible. I pull out the constants needed into local ints then run the constructor and access the getState method for checking if it worked. Code...
