But I just canīt open the main.xml file to edit, it give me this error: Could not initialize class java.awt.Font. I am on linus kde.

I have a swf file on the sdcard and I wrote a html file flash.html with the swf file embeded. The only way to open it now is:
1) open the browser
2) type in file:///sdcard/flash.html The swf runs fine.
But if use the code list below:
Uri uri = Uri.parse("file:///sdcard/flash.html");
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, uri);
startActivity(intent); It shows the error: The application has stopped unexpectly.
I also tried the following code using:
WebView: WebView browser = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.list_web);
browser.loadUrl("file:///sdcard/flash.html");
The Webview showed up, but the area should start the swf is empty. So is there a way to open the html through code? I also think if there is a way to open the android browser using ACTION_VIEW by a simple html then reset the URL to be "file:///sdcard/ flash.html" through code?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy open source application needs to browse local HTML files on the SD card, and WebView is not enough because I need history and bookmarks. I wrote the following code. It correctly opens the browser, but fails to reach catalog.html and in fact it just opens whatever page was last browsed:
Uri uri = Uri.parse("content://com.android.htmlfileprovider/sdcard/ myapp/catalog.html");
Intent intent = new Intent(); intent.setData(uri); intent.setClassName("com.android.browser", "com.android.browser.BrowserActivity"); startActivity(intent);

I am using APP Inventor, but it put my question as general from Android. How can i directly download a file from WEB without the browser try to open it.
I i put a url like: privatesite.blablabla/image.jpg
He will put the image in the browser, because browser can load the file and show it on screen, but i want to download it without reading it.
I need that to put inside App inventor, but if it's possible to do it in HTML or other, that's ok, i think i can make app inventor run an external application.
There is an application i'm trying to use on my phone. the file type is .jad and when i try to dl and open it i get a "no application can be found to open this file". is there anyway to convert this to a file type i can use or is the anderiod simply not compatible with this?

I have created a service that works great, it is launched from an activity at the moment. I'm looking to package it into a .jar file so that other people can add the jar to then their projects and then run the service. Can anyone tell me how I can launch this service from the app that it is included in?
View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have a good example of using a service to download a file?
I am not sure whether to use remote or local and even if I was sure, I need a basic example to start with.
Basically, I want to start the service with the url of the file to downland and when the download is done end the service.
Google's example of services is filled with junk so I am not sure what is needed and what is not.
I have a set of mp3 files on my computer which i want to be the server. Now i have a web service(Songs_Collection). This web service returns the list of all songs present on the server to the user.The user can download the desired file directly from the server.
I have a small problem :
How does my web service get the list of audio files kept on the server in the folder c:Audio Files.
Someone suggested that i need to keep the names in a "Web Content" folder, but can anyone suggest how should i approach it?
I worked out on this part . But now how do I send it to the client on device ?
Can i send it directly as an array? I guess then some seriliazation-deserialization needs to be done. Or If send it as an XML file then how should I proceed? (This is more important)
When I download a file from web in android, then I want to show a progress bar in notification area of status bar through service, but I am not able to do this. How can i do it? I am not able to pass the file length in service. I am giving URL in EditText, and I am clicking Download Button. After Click A class will be called on Click Listener, this class is having a function. In that function I am doing processing or functionality of downloading, Now I want to show the progress bar in Notification Area Through service, but I can not able to do this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Service that downloads a file from the internet. What I want is for the response (an InputStream in this case) to be handled by a custom handler that can be switched (like a strategy pattern) but I can't figure out how to do this. So basically the User of the API would be able to plug in different handlers for the response, some would parse XML, others might save files etc. I realise I could pass through the activity context and execute the method from this (given some interface) but I don't want to do this obviously, in case the Activity is closed in the meantime while the file is still downloaded.
UPDATE - I just had one idea it will work sort of but has problem if the DownloadRunnable gets changed between executions of the downloads.
The modified Runnable interface
interface DownloadRunnable {
void run(InputStream stream);
}

I have a requirement to change network service permission(such as netd to 660 or something similar) for my application in order to access certain features. I dont want to edit init.rc file to make such changes. Since my application cannot be run in root mode, is there any alternative solution where i could do such modifications from my application point of view.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a service running in the background.I have a background thread that gets a reference to the service from the application's main activity. But when the background thread calls a method in the service to display a toast, I get the "Looper not initialized exception".Why,if I have a valid, bound reference to a Service, does this still happen?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to run the sample soft keyboard included in the SDK. I am using the debugger, and the literature says that to use a breakpoint while debugging a SERVICE, I need to include:
android.os.Debug.waitForDebugger();
So here is the portion of the code I modified:
CODE:...........
I have put a couple of breakpoints, at the statements indicated by the comments.
This is what happens: the debugger first stops at the breakpoint1, for a few seconds. But then the service restarts. For the life of me I can't figure out what makes the service to restart.
My service works exactly the way i want as long as i use start and stop and communicate using intents. However my activity needs to change the state of my service as well as retrieving state information.So i thought it would be nice to broadcast some kind of state_changed event from my service and use a binder interface to pull information from the service or change the services state based on user input.This works fine too. The only problem is that my service gets killed when i unbind it just as the documentation says.Is there any way to keep the service alive but still get an interface to control it directly. My activity offers the user a way to stop the service and the service kills itself anyway after it's work is done but i don't want the service to stop every time the activity is destroyed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm confused about whether I need to run my service in a separate process. What are the advantages / disadvantages of each?For reference I'm trying to create an App that uses a service to play [streaming] audio in the background. So which one is better for my use case?
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhat I'm trying to do here is implement something like a peer-to-peer client. Being that, it will start a client thread and a server thread.I know Services themselves run in the main GUI thread, so I'll have to start a couple of independent threads (or Asynctasks?) for each server and client. The only thing I'm not so sure about is if I'll better have 1 Service starting 2 threads, or maybe 2 services, each one of them starting their own thread.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am developing an Android app which needs to poll a specific webpage in time intervals. I've got it to the point where it does indeed poll the page on a specific interval, and that interval is specified in a SharedPreference which can be changed by the user in the settings page of the app. But complications arise when network connectivity is flaky.For example, how do I ensure that the Service "wakes up" the network adapter and gives it ample time to connect before polling the page, in the case that the phone was sleeping to save power? This polling action can happen as little as once every 24 hours, so I don't want to miss one action just because the network was out (but turned on a few seconds, minutes, or even hours later).
Or there are times when the web service doesn't respond, or DNS doesn't respond, or what have you, and for any reason it doesn't get a response even though the phone is technically connected. What sort of rule do I put in place to make this retry later, so that I'm not retrying repeatedly when the user specifically turned off their internet but I'm retrying soon enough that if it was just a hiccup, the data can be received soon after the first try?Are there any examples for this type of situation? What is the logic to best handle this?
