Android :: Change Number Of Thumbnails Seen In Sample Home Application?

Mar 16, 2010

I am working with the sample Home application project on http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/Home/index.html

I've added another value to the THUMBS_IDS and IMAGE_IDS Integer arrays in the Wallpaper class for a total of four wallpaper options.

When I run the application with Device API version 7, Skin: HVGA, hw.lcd.density: 160, in portrait layout, the fourth wallpaper option is not shown.

I need to use the directional keys in the emulator to see the 4th wallpaper option, because the first option is centered.

I have modified only the wallpaper.xml file with a variety of android:layout_* options with no success at this point.

How do I show all four of my wallpaper options?

Android :: LVL Sample Application

Aug 2, 2010

I've followed the instructions for loading the sample LVL application and it loads up with a bunch of errors. Anywhere that a "R.layout.main" or "R.*" request is made it says R cannot be resolved. It suggests importing Android.R but if I do that then it says it can't find any of the files, including the R.layout.main file which is definitely there.What gives? I have had several problems with sample applications so far, am I doing something wrong? You'd think that all you have to do is import it from existing source and it should work.

Android :: Debug Version Of Application On Phone?

Apr 10, 2009

I made a mistake and I still had the debug version of my app (from Eclipse) on my phone when I tried to install a signed version. The install failed, but I could no longer access the debug version in Manage Applications to un install it. I was at work and couldn't reinstall the debug version in order to uni nstall, so I did a complete factory reset of my phone (using My Backup Pro to backup stuff). Now I can install my app. However, now I notice upon reboot that my app loses all of its data from shared preferences. I'm not entirely sure that it's not a problem of mine somehow, but does anyone know why it is doing that and how I can fix it? I may have left the debug gable. true on in the version I'm trying to test. Would that cause this problem?

Android :: Application With Debug Or Release Mode

Sep 3, 2009

I'm trying to figure out a way to programmatically determine if my build was built in debug mode vs. release mode. I'd like to hide some items in my settings screen if it's release. When I build my app in Eclipse I'm building by default in Debug mode. However, when I build the app using the command line, I build it in release mode and sign the app using the jarsigner tool.

I've tried using:
PackageInfo appInfo = manager.getPackageInfo("com.adobe.psmobile", PackageManager.GET_SIGNATURES);
to test if
appInfo.signatures[0].toCharsString()
matches my debug signature and that didn't seem to work.

I'm now trying to see if I can introspect the app's KeyStore, to match the default debug alias described here:
http://developer.android.com/guide/publishing/app-signing.html of "androiddebugkey"
but I haven't figured out how to retrieve the app's KeyStore yet.

Android :: How To Debug An Application That Hangs After Awhile

Oct 22, 2010

I've built my first Android application and it works pretty well, except that it hangs/freezes up when it's left running for several hours.

It doesn't always do this - it's inconsistent.

This is an awful question to ask, it's so broad, but how should I go about troubleshooting this problem?

My guess is that I'm not managing my exceptions well and something's happening that I'm not dealing with effectively.

Is there a good resource of information on testing and debugging Android/Java applications like a Web site or a book?

I'm just looking for someone to shove me in the right direction.

Android :: Overriding Home Button For Car Home Replacement Application

May 19, 2010

I have been working on a replacement for the stock Car Home app for a bit, and I am completely stumped on how to override the Home button so that my app will be brought back to the foreground whenever the phone is docked. This is the way that Car Home works, so there must be a way. It seems that BroadcastReceivers won't work, because the intent that is broadcast whenever the Home button is pressed will still cause the default homescreen app to launch; I cannot prevent it. I can override the Home button from within my app, but that does me no good since this needs to work when the user is outside my app. Car Home also does not do anything weird like set itself as the default homescreen app while it's running (I checked the logcat to make sure).
I've been really beating my head against the wall on this. Does anyone have any ideas, or can you at least point me in the right direction?
