Android :: Keep Phone Number As Is Before It Hits RIL Layer?

Feb 9, 2009

I am working on a device that uses dns names and IP addresses to make calls. This is not phone device. We are planning to replace the RIL layer bottom end to talk to our own call backend that accepts IP addresses. When I invoke a ACTION_CALL intent with a dns name, I see the Phone app coming up and changing the dns name into a phone number. Is there any option to turn that behavior off? Basically the phone app passes whatever string I passed all the way to RIL layer as is without mangling it.

Samsung Moment :: Application Layer Of The Phone Is Not Receiving Hardware Layer's Data Correctly

Dec 21, 2009

Ok so I know many are having battery issues. You, like me, probably have more battery life than you think. This is because the application layer of the phone is not receiving the hardware layer's data correctly (hold talk button, end call button, and middle button upon starting up your turned-off phone, this boots in test mode which shows you hardware layer battery power, aka the correct battery life estimate). It's causing another problem because some applications can't be run when the phone THINKS it's about to die.

Android :: Massive Deceleration Comes When Car Hits Light Poll

Sep 26, 2008

Does anyone know to what resolution the accelerometer in the G1 is? I read about the Google Guys and an app that recorded the phone being tossed in the air, so I figured it it might have a high degree of resolution. Have a back ground app watch for sudden massive deceleration. (i.e. the sudden massive deceleration that comes when your car hits a light poll). Now assuming that the phone survives the crash, the app would then open up and try to get a GPS fix. It could also send those GPS coordinates to someone via email or sms. In addition, the application could try and "alert you", if you cannot respond because you are uncontentious, the phone could then "call" some one, and play a prerecorded message.

"This is McKiney's phone, there may have been an antecedent, the phone is located near (reads address), I am turning on the speaker phone so you can try and talk with McKinley" The phone would then active the speaker phone so the caller could try and communicate with the phone owner. The app would also read back the address at various intervals. Of course you would not want the phone calling mom to tell her that her son was dead in a car wreak because your phone was in your gym bag when you threw it on the floor in a lost-racket-ball-game rage. So the overall concept might be flawed, but it's worth a thought.

HTC Incredible :: Have Rooted 2.1 Confused As To What Happens When OTA 2.2 Hits

Aug 31, 2010

I've rooted my DIncredible, and have S-OFF through unrevoked. I know that when the OTA hits, I will lose root access. But with S-OFF I will be able to re-root.My question is, how would I go about doing that? Is my phone safe to let the update go through? Also, I've read around, but there's no all-inclusive guide that I can see that has how to get root back once I get the OTA 2.2.I'm kind of wary about using a leaked ROM instead, but that might be the easiest way to do this and keep root unless there's a guide out there.

HTC Incredible :: Google Voice Number Isn't Version Cell Phone Number

May 24, 2010

I've experienced two problems with Google Voice that are causing me to get charged minutes I wouldn't usually get charged. If I can't solve them, I'll have to go back to using my Verizon number. First, let me say that I'm using a new Google Voice number that isn't Verizon cell phone number or any other preexisting number. Second, my girlfriend is on my family plan, but she doesn't have GV yet. We're using the 700-minute plan, so we don't have a friends circle.

Problem 1: When I call my girlfriend's Verizon wireless phone using the GV on my Verizon phone, I get charged, and when she calls my GV number on my Verizon Wireless phone from her Verizon wireless phone, she gets charged. We don't cash in on our free in-network calling. I know, this should have been obvious, but it just never occurred to me until after I looked at the bill. I'd be able to work with that, though, and just select "Call without using Google Voice" or whatever when calling her if it weren't for the second problem. When people call my Google Voice number, I get charged when I don't answer. Usually, it's just a one-minute charge, but sometimes it's two or three minutes (don't know why). With anything less than an unlimited plan, minutes count. Not good.

General :: Forward Selective CID / Phone Number To External Number

Feb 15, 2012

Basically, i use my personal cell phone for work and personal use, i have multiple exchange accts that keep things sorted and seperated.

recently though i have been getting more and more business calls to my cell phone, during and outside of normal business hours.

what im looking for is an app that will take a selective group of contacts/phone numbers/CID strings and if it is a "business" call then forward it to a specific phone number (external number, the actual business line).

I have seen apps on the market and around that will forward calls to voicemail if they match certain filters, but i cant really seem to find an app that will forward to an external number. Any way I could accomplish this?

Should I override onDraw() on the containing View and draw after calling super.onDraw()? Or is there some better way of drawing a layer on top?

Android :: Use Own Map Layer In Google Maps

Jun 23, 2009

I have a GIS layer, that holds information about some areas. It is basically a rating for a specic area. So each shape defines a specific rating. I would like to be able to add this layer to Google Maps and then in my Google Android phone be able to open a little application that just shows that rating based on your current location as a big number on the screen. I am fairly new to Android development, so I don't know the Google Maps API that well yet. I would be very happy for any pointers in the right direction and even happier if anyone could present an example.

Android :: Google Maps With Contacts Layer

Dec 30, 2009

I dont know wether this is the right place to post this, but I had a great idea for a implementation of Contacts within google maps. Maybe it is already possible or someone already is developing this, but here it is: Add a selectable Layer to the Google Maps on the Android system that integrates with the Contacts list and shows them in Google Maps. Only contacts with an adress can be shown in Maps and have to be in a certain format ofcourse. Also, you have entered a contact's adress information, from the Contact's menu with 'Call' and 'Text you should be able to use 'Navigate to', which is a Google Maps route from your current location to this person's house.

Android :: Best Way To Implement RPC Layer To Communicate With Server

May 25, 2009

I'm starting my first Android Application and I'm trying to figure out the best way to implement an RPC layer to communicate with my Tomcat server. Basically, I've got POJOs on the Android Client and on the Server. I simply would like to seserialize the POJOs on Android, send up an HTTP Post, deserialize on the server, do some work, then serialize a POJO response back down to the client. I've seen a number of posts referencing JSON and XML but nothing really definitive.

Further clouding the matter is the different Android SDKs out there that seem to have different levels of support for each. Obviously, if Android has a native library that works well, I'd like to use that. Additionally, I'd like something that could work with my existing POJOs without a great deal of trouble. What are the best practices for this sort of thing? Can anyone send me to any tutorials that have some solid examples on how to get this implemented and going?

Android :: How To Create An Asynchronous Communication Layer

Apr 13, 2010

I want to create a communication layer in android. The layer will communicate with server asynchronously. Multiple activities should be able to call methods of the communication layer. The layer will get messages from the server (it is not important for the scope of this question how) and should be able to tell activities to do some work based on these messages.

How should I implement this? Should I do this using android Service?

The main questions that I need to answer are: How can activities access the layer? How can the layer access activities? How can i make the communication layer live for the lifetime of the application?

I realize this is a change in framework code, and that is fine for my purposes. So, for example, if I know that I am going to install an app called "MyApp", could I go into frameworks/base/core/java/android/ widget/AbsListView.java and tell it to use an xml file and .png's that live in that app? I always get NullPointer exception when I open the SQLiteOpenHelper in my service layer class, Is it because my service layer class extends the Activity class but I did not show this activity on mobile screen? (That's there is no intent to my service layer class), if it is so, how to get rid of it if I wanna open a SQLiteOpenHelper in my service layer class which do not need to extends Activity, but need a Context object to pass to SQLiteOpenHelper?
