I created a method and keep getting an error that I need to include a } at the end of my method. I put the } in and the error is still there! If I then delete that } the same error will pop up on a prior method; and that error wasn't there before. in other words, if i type the } on my most recent method then the error stays there and only there. if i delete it, it duplicates that error on my prior method.

When creating the SensorEventListener, I get a syntax error (says ; is needed to finish statement)
Exact code in question:

Here is full code if needed

I've run into the following issue:
Say I have an Animal class, which is parcelable, and I have a Dog class and a Cat class, which are subclasses of Animal and also implement Parcelable.
Say I have a service with the following AIDL interface:
sendAnimals(List<Animal> animals);
Now I'm calling this remote interface from some client application, passing it a List containing Cats and Dogs. What happens now is that android calls the Cat's and the Dog's writeToParcel() methods at the client side, but at the server side, the Animal's CREATOR is used, which calls Animal's readFromParcel() method. So the right data is sent from the client, but the wrong unmarshalling code is executed at the server.
I have tried to put this in the AIDL file:
sendAnimals(List<T extends Animal> animals);
This results in a syntax error from the aidl compiler though.
My current workaround is as follows: - In each specific Animal subtype's writeToParcel() method, I write the class name as a String into the Parcel as the first element. - In the Animal's CREATOR.createFromParcel() I read the first String out of the parcel, and based on that I create the appropriate type and call the appropriate readFromParcel() method.
I think this is kind of ugly though. I would expect the android framework to take care of this for me.
(My application is not actually dealing with animals, this is just to make it simpler to explain the issue)

I've posted a bigger chunk of the code below. You can see that initially QUOTE was procedural- coded in place. I'm trying to learn how to use declarative design so I want to do the same thing but by using resources. It seems like I need to access the string.xml thru the @R.id tag and identify QUOTE with that string value. But I don't know enough to negotiate this.

Eclipse is showing an error (little red "x" next to my project name), but there is no error shown in any files meaning there is no corresponding "x" next to any file...nothing. When I try to run it, it says, "Your project contains error(s), please fix them before running your application."You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Developers" group.

1) I am developing my app in Eclipse 3.4.1 with Android (ver 1.1_r1) plugin. My app compiles and executes without errors when using the Eclipse IDE.
However, when I export my app (unsigned) using Eclipse (via {select project} >right-click>Android tools>export unsigned application package), sign it, and try to run it on the Emulator, it throws a runtime error when I try to update my sqlite database, at which time the specific error created is: SQLite error#14, unable to open database. It is able to read from the database without problems. (I have also verified that the database is: open, is not readonly, is not locked by another thread, is not in the middle of a transaction.)
I have limited experience, but this seems more like a "system" problem given that the app works OK in Eclipse IDE but then fails as an exported/signed apk. Some googling of SQLite resources revealed a similar error on a non-Android platform which was fixed by: "Set your permissions correctly on /var/tmp, or whatever directory you are using to hold temporary files".
Does Android have temporary files, and if so how does it handle permissions on temporary files? Is there a way to check or set these permissions to see if this fixes my problem here?
2) Not sure if it is related, but after I have run the exported/signed app which causes the runtime error, if I reboot the Emulator, and try to run the program using the Eclipse IDE , the program fails with the same exact error. PLUS I also noticed the following error message while the program is installing/running: 03-01 22:22:29.282: ERROR/PackageManager(53): Package com.northwestradiology has mismatched uid: 0 on disk, 10019 in settings; read messages:
I can restore the Eclipse version of my program to be able to execute without runtime errors by utilizing the -wipe-data option for the emulator. But note that if I run my signed APK using an emulator created with the -wipe-data option, it still throws the runtime error listed above...

Just a few days working on Android, but... I don't see this to be "normal" (well, the Dalvik isn't but that's another subject... xD)
when i try to create a new XML file (for a layout) from eclipse, using the android plugin, it shows up a window saying "Problem Opening Wizard - The selected wizard could not be started", and the error comes to show:
"The selected wizard could not be started. Plug-in com.android.ide.eclipse.adt was unable to load class com.android.ide.eclipse.editors.wizards.NewXmlFileWizard. com.android.ide.eclipse.editors.wizards.NewXmlFileWizard"
Ok, I see the error is something missing (or failing) in the plugin...

I'm mostly using Eclipse for Android development these days, and have developed good muscle memory for Ctrl-F11 to run my app. Problem is, if I happen to be editing an XML file (like manifest or layout) when I hit that key combination, Eclipse does something that I find inscrutable... It attempts to "run" my XML file, creating an erroneous output file (called something like layout.out.xml) that I then have to delete, adding a useless XML launch configuration to my history, and generally being a pain in my butt.
It's no big deal, but it is an ongoing annoyance. Does anyone know how to disable "run" for XML in Eclipse? I've tried to find a config item for it, but Eclipse's options are such a rabbit hole that I haven't had any luck there myself.

I've noticed that then I use "clean" from Eclipse project menu on my project I receive following error
[2009-02-19 09:55:02 - MyListView] no classfiles specified [2009-02-19 09:55:02 - MyListView] Conversion to Dalvik format failed with error 1
Project doesn't use any external jars and rather simple. If I uncheck build automatically and build it - it builds and runs just fine. I'm on MacOSX 10.5.6 and JDK 1.6.0_07. And latest android SDK ( android-sdk-mac_x86-1.1_r1.zip 79046151 bytes becf0f1763d61eedce15d2a903d6c1dd )

I am getting an error in my Problems tab for my Android Project in Eclipse. The error is "Android Packaging Problem" with an Unknown location. Unknown Error NullPointerException
I cannot determine what this problem is. My project was working a few hours ago. The only change I made was to add a public interface ITrackDao to my project and implement it. There are no errors associated with this. I am not even sure where to begin to look. I cannot launch the application.

I'm storing my Android project in a Subversion repository. After recently shuffling a bunch of stuff around I started getting tons of errors like: syntax error entries/project_name/src/.svnline 1Android AIDL Problem syntax error don't know what to do with "" entries/project_name/src/.svnline 28Android AIDL Problem etc.
It seems as if Eclipse is trying to build the files in the .svn directories now. This setup used to work fine.

I've recently upgraded the Android SDK to the latest version, and I'm trying to re-build the ApiDemos project. I've imported it properly.
The problem is
1. the .aidl files aren't being processed at all by Eclipse during the pre-processing stage.
2. R.java isn't re-generated at all by eclipse
Using Eclipse, Helios release.
