Android :: Generating Function Arguments In Java

Jun 12, 2010

I'm very new to java and am working on my first Android app. I am using the webview demo as a template. I am trying to generate a random integer between 1 and 12 and then call a certain javascript function based on the result. Here's what I have:

int number = 1 + (int)(Math.random() * ((12 - 1) + 1));
number = (int) Math.floor(number);
String nextQuote = "javascript:wave" + number + "()";
mWebView.loadUrl(nextQuote);

So mWebView.loadUrl(nextQuote) will be the same as something like mWebView.loadUrl("javascript:wave1()") I just want to know if what I have here is correct and will work the way I think it will. The application isn't responding as expected and I suspect this bit of code is the culprit.

Android :: Generating Keystore (Java)

Jun 23, 2010

I am trying to publish my first Android application, and therefore need to sign the app with a keystore. At first everything goes well. I type the following into the command prompt: keytool -genkey -v -keystore testKeystore.keystore -alias testKeystore -keyalg RSA -validity 10000. I answer the several questions that follow, but after the last question, I get the following error. keytool error: java.io.FileNotFoundException: testKeystore.keystore [Access is denied] Maybe I am doing some silly mistake, but I have followed several guides on the internet on how to make a keystore, and I thought that was all there was to it?

Android :: Android / Java - Call Function In Separate *.java File?

Aug 16, 2010

I do an import of the full package name / java file, and if I do a <classname>.<method>, SOMETIMES I can get it to access - other times I get a lot of can't use a static in a non static bunch of talk. I'll admit I'm new to Java, so what do I need to do? Call a class instance first, then call my methods? I'm rather confused by this, as I want to put all of my 'functions' into a FunctionsList.java file, and all of my main Activity (UI) into a MyActivity.java file.

For example:
<MyActivity.java>
import com.example.FunctionsList;
private class MyActivity extends Activity {
FunctionsList.function();
}

9/10 times I get that static/non-static error. If I put all of my functions into MyActivity.java, I have zero problems!

Android :: .NET Trim Function In Java?

Aug 8, 2010

In an Android app, I am looking for the functionality of the .NET string function [Trim('aaa')] which will trim off the text "aaa" off a string. I don't think this is natively available in Java and I haven't seen that functionality in Android Java textutil library. Is there an easy way to have a Java app trim a set of characters from the string?

Android :: Implement Javascript SetTimeout Function In Java

Nov 1, 2010

I am currently trying to integrate a live search functionality in android. I use a customized Autocomplete widget. The widget itself provides me with a threshold to only start a query after a certain amount of characters have been typed in. But what I also want is that a query only starts, say if a user has stopped typing for 2 seconds.

As I load my contents with a AsyncTask I tried blocking the doInBackground function by calling Thread.sleep() right at the beginning. If the user would then continue typing the program would look after an existing task, cancel it and start a new one. This was my idea. But it doesn't quite work the way I expected. Sometimes it sends out queries even if the user is still typing, sometimes queries are canceled after the users stopped typing. Do you have any ideas on this or maybe a better way to solve this? Here are the code snippets:.....................

Android :: Java Reflection To Call Higher API Level Function / Abstract Class

My point is to be able to call a 2.1 API if it exists, while the application should be able to run in 1.5
Specifically, I am making a GPS application which would like to call android.location.LocationManager.addNmeaListener if available. My problem is that this call takes as parameter an abstract class (GpsStatus.NmeaListener) which I cannot pass directly to Class.GetMethod (or my application won't work in 1.5). Android :: Passing Arguments To A BroadcastReceiver Through An Intent

Jan 14, 2010

I have an application, which sets an alarm using AlarmManager, which starts another Activity when it goes off. The AlarmManager takes a PendingIntent and spawns a BroadcastReceiver class when the specified time comes. I'm wondering whether there is any way that I can pass arguments to this BroadcastReceiver through the Intent object which goes into PendingIntent?I'd like to be able to retrieve arg1 in the BroadcastReceiver's onReceive(Context, Intent) method. I figured that the local variable my_intent would be the second parameter passed on to onReceive by the PendingIntent, but apparently that's not quite right. Is it possible to pass parameters between an Activity and a BroadcastReceiver in this fashion (using Intent.putExtra()) or should I use a ContentProvider instead?

Android :: Passing Arguments To AsyncTask / And Returning Results

Nov 16, 2010

I think this should be easy to answer. I have an application that does some long calculations, and I would like to show a progress dialog while this is done. So far I have found that I could do this with threads/handlers, but didn't work, and then I found out about the AsyncTask.In my application I use maps with markers on it, and I have implemented the onTap function to call a method that I have defined. The method creates a dialog with Yes/No buttons, and I would like to call an AsyncTask if Yes is clicked. My question is how to pass an ArrayList to the AsyncTask (and work with it there), and how to get back a new ArrayList like a result from the AsyncTask?

Android :: Generating MD5 Fingerprint With New Keystore

Sep 23, 2010

I'm trying to generate the MD5 Fingerprint I will use with the release of my application. I used Eclipse to Compile and Sign my application, which gave me a keystore file and a .apk file. Now i need to generate the MD5 for my MapViews. I tried using the cmd prompt to generate it, but everytime it states that no such file exists. Is there somewhere special i need to be storing the keystore so the keytool has access to it? Also, once i get the MD5 fingerprint, all i have to do is insert it and re-compile and sign my application (the same way i previously did it). Am i correct on that assumption? I've read through the developer docs and I'm still unclear on the whole process.

Android :: R Not Re-generating In Eclipse After Rename Of The Package

I renamed the package in the manifest from com.a to com.a.beta in order to upload a different version to the Android Market.

In the manifest I changed the referenced entities (services, activities etc.) to use the fully qualified name "com.a.X" instead of just ".X". Of course the code still references com.a.R, so there is lots of errors in Eclipse. My expectation would have been though that R.java will be regenerated in com.a.beta. But it is not generated at all.
