Android :: GlBufferData Crash When Try To Copy Data To Vertex Buffer

Mar 16, 2010

I have experienced some trouble using VBOs, since the method glBufferData crashes when I try to copy data to the vertex buffer. Below is the smallest snippet of code that I found to generate the crash:

int numVert = 32; GL11 gl11 = (GL11)gl; testArray = new int[numVert * 3]; testBuffer = IntBuffer.wrap(testArray); gl11.glGenBuffers(1, testID, 0); gl11.glBindBuffer(GL11.GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, testID[0]); final int siz = testBuffer.capacity() * Integer.SIZE; gl11.glBufferData(GL11.GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, siz, testBuffer, GL11.GL_STATIC_DRAW); gl11.glBindBuffer(GL11.GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, 0);

testArray, testBuffer and testID are members of the class containing this code, declared as follows:
int[] testArray; IntBuffer testBuffer; int[] testID = {0};

I tried this code in several OpenGL applications which don't show any problem otherwise. The crash occurs specifically at the glBufferData() method call. If numVert is set to zero, then the crash doesn't occur.

Android :: Change Internal Buffer Size Of Data Input Stream

Apr 1, 2010

I'm using this kind of code for my TCP/IP connection:

sock = new Socket(host, port);
sock.setKeepAlive(true);
din = new DataInputStream(sock.getInputStream());
dout = new DataOutputStream(sock.getOutputStream());

Then, in separate thread I'm checking din.available() bytes to see if there are some incoming packets to read. The problem is, that if a packet bigger than 2048 bytes arrives, the din.available() returns 2048 anyway. Just like there was a 2048 internal buffer. I can't read those 2048 bytes when I know it's not the full packet my application is waiting for. If I don't read it however - it'll all stuck at 2048 bytes and never receive more. Can I enlarge the buffer size of DataInputStream somehow? Socket receive buffer is 16384 as returned by sock.getReceiveBufferSize() so it's not the socket limiting me to 2048 bytes. If there is no way to increase the DataInputStream buffer size - I guess the only way is to declare my own buffer and read everything from DataInputStream to that buffer?

Android :: Pass Data Between Activities?

Oct 6, 2010

I'm developing an app which basically navigates through a xml-feed. When I parse the feed or let's say the list, then each (list)item becomes a model. All the models are wrapped up in an array list. Now, when the user clicks on a list item, the underlying model is going to be serialized and sent as IntentExtra to the next Activity (e.g. a deeper sub list). (Originally I asked here a different question. The solution was not related to Serializable and wouldn't help anybody. However MatteKarla gave an interesting input. Thats why I decided to rewrite this question.)

Android :: Pass Data Through New Activity?

Jun 29, 2010

In my Android app,I start a new activity with startActivityForResult(). I get the result in onActivityResult() perfectly. My problem is that there is a small bit of data that I know before I start the activity and I need that value to be available in onActivityResult(), too. I tried attaching it to my intent as an extra, but it wasn't attached to the intent that is available when the activity returns the result. I made it work by storing the data in a global variable, but I really don't like that approach. Is there a better, right way to pass data through an activity (instead of just to it)?

Android :: How To Pass Data To Another Droid Device/

May 24, 2010

I am working on an application and one feature that would make it really useful is the ability to share some information, but the other device may not be expecting the data to be sent.For example, if I am reading a really good book, and I realize that a friend may like it, I could use an application to send the data to him, so he could order the book from Amazon.But, since he isn't expecting the data, I would hate for the application to be polling a server every so often, as that will be needlessly draining the battery.Ideally it would be great if there was a way to make a phone call to the target device, send a data packet and end the call.If it could be done and prevent the phone from ringing, then it would be very useful to me.I am curious if there is some way to send data between devices without polling.

I can handle the case where the starter Activity dies while the "startee" activity is trying to read from the pipe.

Android :: Pass Data From BroadcastReceiver Through To Activity Being Started?

Apr 11, 2010

I've got an Android application which needs to be woken up sporadically throughout the day.To do this, I'm using the AlarmManager to set up a PendingIntent and have this trigger a BroadcastReceiver. This BroadcastReceiver then starts an Activity to bring the UI to the foreground.All of the above seems to work, in that the Activity launches itself correctly; but I'd like the BroadcastReceiver to notify the Activity that it was started by the alarm (as opposed to being started by the user). To do this I'm trying, from the onReceive() method of the BroadcastReceiver to set a variable in the extras bundle of the intent,Can anyone tell me what's different about passing a bundle from a BroadcastReceiver to an Activity, as opposed to passing the bundle from an Activity to a BroadcastReceiver?

Android : Pass Camera Data To Native Layer?

Nov 3, 2009

In my application i want to pass the camera data to native layer. what is the best possible approach for doing the same.

I know it can be done 2 ways.

1.start the camera in application and pass the preview data to native layer. But i feel this may consume lot of resources.

2.Start the camera directly in native layer and use it. So JNI will come less into picture. and not much resource loading also.But dont want to take any risk by using the lower layer code which may change in future.

Is there any other approach ? start the camera and tap the data in native layer. I think this wont be proper approach, Can any one suggest ?

Android :: Pass Data Between Activities - HashMap Of WeakReferences To Objects

Nov 16, 2009

I am trying to pass a custom object to one activity from another. What I would like to use is the HashMap of WeakReferences, but the description isn't clear, at least to me. From above URL: "A HashMap of WeakReferences to Objects. You can also use a HashMap of WeakReferences to Objects with Long keys. When an activity wants to pass an object to another activity, it simply puts the object in the map and sends the key (which is a unique Long based on a counter or time stamp) to the recipient activity via intent extras. The recipient activity retrieves the object using this key."

MyObject object = new MyObject(); HashMap map = new HashMap(); WeakReference reference = new WeakReference(object); map.put(reference.hashCode(), reference);
Intent i = new Intent(myIntent); i.putExtra(map);

I know this is probably way off but I can't figure out how this is intended to be implemented based on the description. Are the keys hashcodes, user defined, or what? It sounds like all that is passed is a HashMap containing the key values but how is the object retrieved with just the key? I couldn't find any code examples or useful documentation on this method of passing objects

Android :: Unable To Get Data From Activity To Service / How Intents Could Pass That?

Nov 24, 2010

I am pretty new to this but I was told I could get good help here. A friend and myself are playing around with creating Android apps (using ADT)

Here is how we are trying to make the program: in activity, user sets threshold values for the X and Y axis on accelerometer. When user hits button "Start", startService is invoked and starts TiltService.

TiltService is designed to run in the background always on the phone without user interaction. TiltService constantly compares the threshold with the accelerometer values and will vibrate if they are off.

My problem is I can't seem to get the putExtra() data correctly. I have overridden the onStartCommand in my service but I get the message "unreachable code" when I save the getExtras() to a bundle.

Here is the relevant code (I can post the whole thing, just do not want to clog up page) code...

I thought I understood the basic of how Intents could pass data, but I guess I don't. Is it obvious what I am missing?

Android :: Alpha Buffer Support On G1

Mar 21, 2009

Is it possible to generate an EGL Config with an alpha buffer on the G1? When I request a non-zero number of bits for the alpha buffer I can get a R5G5B5A1 or R8G8B8A8 visual, but neither of them renders correctly to the screen. I assume that's because the G1 only supports R5G6B5 visuals. It does surprise me that I can even get those visuals though. It's fairly obvious looking at the 32bpp visual artifacts that the frame buffer is indeed laid out with 32bpp, but display hardware is treating it as 16bpp, resulting in the left and right halves of my scene rendering in alternate scan lines, with distorted colors. So does anyone know if there is any way to get an alpha buffer on the G1? I've tried using FBO's but they don't seem to be implemented either. Or I'm using them incorrectly. If I call glGenFrameBuffersOES on a GL11ExtensionPack reference I get an UnsupportedOperationException. I am getting my GL11ExtensionPack reference by casting the return value from my EGLContext.getGL() call.

Android :: Alpha Buffer Support

May 24, 2009

Since Google groups doesn't let you add posts to threads more than 60 days old, and I want to leave a solution to the problem I encountered a while back, I'm posting this message with the same title in hopes that anyone running into the problem I had will find this message as well. I was having trouble getting my G1 to render an RGBA_8888 OpenGL context to the screen. Everything was twice the size it should be because the 8888 pixels were being interpreted as two 565 pixels. The colors were obviously wrong as well. I had missed a critical function call. You must configure the Surface that is being used by EGL using the SurfaceHolder method setFormat. The pixel format needs to be TRANSLUCENT, or more specifically you can use RGBA_8888.
