I want to create a non-generic compass that uses rotating directions instead of a rotating needle as in the conventional compass. The drawing is like the illustration below..................

I am looking for a game that works like the Google Sky app, but instead of stars it showed little aeroplanes you can shoot down. Basically a real life 3d anti aircraft game.
Of course if it used augmented reality to place the planes on the camera view that would be even better!
Does anything like this exist out there?

Can an Activity still have read/write access to an SD card after it has been mounted to USB storage (connecting USB and selecting Mount from the resulting notification screen). In other words, does mounting the SD card lock out system access until USB is disconnected. I need to create a live channel between an application and an external USB device and I'm running out of options.

I just want to confirm the behavior I'm seeing. Is it true that when the SD Card is mounted as a USB volume, it is unavailable to applications? (This is Windows: the behavior may be different for a Linux desktop)

My droid does not have a front mounted camera. How about two small rectangle mirrors mounted at 90 degrees with one edge of mirror touching just below the phone camera lens... and with some simple holder, it could turn phone into a front facing non reversed camera (2 mirrors -- like a periscope.)
Has anyone constructed this? Seems like it could be a simple product accessory that could world for multiple phones.
Dash is phone with camera backside pointing to one of two mirrors shown as slashes & V.

I'm working on an Android application that needs to look at what images a user has stored. The problem is that if the user has the sdcard mounted via the USB cable, I can't read the list of images on the disk. Does anyone know of a way to tell if the usb is mounted so that I could just pop up a message informing the user that it won't work?

sometimes, at least once a day my phone wont read my pictures or music files. it says "sd card is not mounted or sd card is busy". the phone is fine. the phone will ring with my own ringtone from my music and i can view my pictures, then all of a sudden it will play the default ringtone. i go to check and it says sd card is not mounted or busy. the sd card is in there. i have to take it out and put it back in to fix it. this fixes it for maybe a day.

Well I have a problem and need some help. So for no apparent reason I started getting an error with my sd card last night. At the notification bar, it says the sd card is mounted as read only. The phone gives me the option to try to fix it. It tries without success. I have tried resetting the phone and fidgeting with the card...both with no success. Its frustrating cause I can't take pictures as a result and all I see is that error message! Its an eyesore at the top of my screen.

my girl just updated her s4 to 4.4.2 a couple days ago. She cannot download anything, it is giving her a "Former Volume not mounted" error. We have tried:
1) restarting phone
2) Unmounting SD Card and mounting back
3) Uninstalling app and reinstalling
I assume it is cause in 4.4.2 Samsung changed the read/write permissions regarding 3rd party apps. She says that she cannot even save the file location to the internal memory to save it, then move it when its done.

I have been trying to gain root on a Android 4.0.4 device and was able to, but I can't seem to keep system rw long term.
I run the following command
mount -o remount,rw /system
or
adb remount (from a PC)
the mount command will then show that system is in rw mode. However, if I attempt to copy any data into /system, the first file copy fails and the system then reports read only. To make things even more odd, commands like chmod on a file in /system work just fine.
It seems to me that there is something that detects something writing to /system, and then forces the mount back to ro.

I have a marker on the map using an Overlay. I also have access to the compass sensor which I'm able to show a textView with the orientation values (0 to 359). How can I apply this values to the marker? (which is a drawable). I already have a MAtrix created but when I insert the orientation value gives me an error, here it is:
GeoPoint geopoint = new GeoPoint((int) (newLocation.getLatitude() * 1E6),
(int) (newLocation.getLongitude() * 1E6)); Paint paint = new Paint();
Point pt = new Point(); mapView.getProjection().toPixels(geopoint, pt);
Bitmap bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(),R.drawable.user2);
Matrix matrix = new Matrix(); matrix.postTranslate(-25, -25);
matrix.postRotate(direction); matrix.postTranslate(pt.x, pt.y);
paint.setAntiAlias(true); paint.setFilterBitmap(true);
int width = bmp.getWidth(); int height = bmp.getHeight();
Bitmap changedBitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(bmp, 0, 0, width, height, matrix, true);
BitmapDrawable icon = new BitmapDrawable(changedBitmap);
icon.setBounds(0, 0, icon.getIntrinsicWidth(), icon.getIntrinsicHeight());
userOverlay useroverlay = new userOverlay(icon); useroverlay.addItem(item);
mapView.getOverlays().add(useroverlay);
I used the value retrieved from the sensor on "direction" but it doesn't work.

Am researching a problem with compass and sensor values returned by the phone. I found this thread: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa. Which seems related, but it's old so I'm starting a new one. I'm getting stuck values from both the compass and orientation sensors. It was fine yesterday, but today, I'm only getting values in a limited range (e.g. compass headings from 240 - 290), no matter how I orient the device. What's even more odd is that the radians returned from the call to Sensor Manager.get Orientation(), which returns radians, is giving consistently out of range values. Anyone see this same behavior, and if so, any fixes? Here's some sample sensor data. Format is heading, pitch, roll. The first set contains raw values, the second set contains values after I've applied the orientation matrix generated by the Sensor Manager. The third set contains values after I've smoothed the data with my own algorithm.

Okay this is starting to irk me, i've been trying to teather using PDA net through my stock USB cable, i plug in the cable the phone and computer reconize eachother i mount the cable through the notification bar, start PDA net, everything works great, i start watching a show on fox.com and get 15-20 minutes in when i get the usb device being disconnected tone, look over at the phone and it says preparing SD card as if i had unmounted it, if i try to unplug the usb and plug it back in it charges but i never get the notification to mount the cable again. I have to power off the phone and power back on to fix this. WTH is going on here, i know a lot of people were having issues getting the usb connection going but that appears to be fixed by removing and reseating the sd card, which i have done many times. I will have a perfect connection with the laptop and phone sitting still on a table when i randomly lose the connection and have to reset the phone.

I have been running Cyanogen 5.0.5 since yesterday. I always jump back and forth between DM Updater and Clockwork depending on what recovery I need to flash a particular rom, update or kernel. Today I cranked up DM Updater expecting it to ask if I want to update recovery and I am getting a "Your SD card is not mounted" error. My SD card is fine. Just for giggles I went into my clockwork recovery and unmounted and remounted. ROM Manager reports no errors. I am at work so I can't install SB Recovery using my current PC using adb as I normally would. I guess the ROM I want to play with (SB Recovery format) will have to wait.

I have done a search and found problems of people cannot mount and are not connected. However, my prob is different. This is my second PC to attempt with same problem. I dl HTC Sync and connect with USB cable that came with phone. I get the USB icon on the top of Hero but HTC Sync says disconnected. When I bring down the USB icon and press Mount I get a "Removable Disk (E" popup. The options at this point are: Copy pictures to folders, Use slide show of images, Print the Pictures, Copy Disc, Play, Play Video Files, Open Folder to View Files, Take No Action. This tells me that the PC is reading my phone, however, HTC still says disconnected. Do I select one of these options in order to be connected on Sync? My goal is to update the firmware.
