Android : Create A Layout Using The Xml File And Code Within The Activity?

I'm trying to create a simple text based game in which I ask a question based on a movie. The list of movie's is in a text file which I've included in res/raw. So basically I want to have a default string, say "Who acted in", followed by the name of the movie. Could I have the first string (along with a submit button etc) in my res/layout/main.xml file, and follow that with the movies name, after I've extracted it from the text file in my activity, or does the layout have to be defined in one place only?

I'm looking for an easy way for the user to see how many drinks they've had for a BAC calculator.
PICTURE OF THE APP, for reference
On button press, I would like an image to be added to the screen, directly under the spinner and with left alignment. When I press the button again, I want another image to be added to the screen.
So if I pressed the add beer button, a drawable of a beer would appear below the spinner. If I pressed the add beer button again, I want there to be TWO drawables of beers under the spinner, preferably with them being added from the right.
(Also, having them reach their width limit, wrapping around, and starting again on the left, but below a full line, would be AWESOME)
I can't figure out how to do this. I assume adding a ImageView in code to a relative layout (because it needs to be positioned to the right) would be the best route, but if it's possible in xml I'd be more than happy to use that.

I created a new Activity and created a new layout file under res/ layout . after this,i also want to add a options menu file under res/menu.but how could i bind all these layout file with this Activity? I can't find any info in manifest file. or i missed it?

How can we use more than one layout file. I have implemented a cutom dialog.That means i have created an layout file for dialog. And one layout file for my activity. But whatever the UI items in dialog layout ile if iam using them by findViewById it is giving me null

I try to create 2 rows of buttons in android layout.xml file. The first row is left-aligned, the second row is center-aligned.

I want to populate a table, defined in layout xml file through the programmatic way. I have define Table with a single row defining its header, with all the attributes set. Now i want to know a way so that i can just replicate that header row in the table with new content.
I tried using inflator inflate(int,view) method, but at runtime it showed up with error.

Is it possible to build a GridView object in XML with 3 columns and 4 rows of Image buttons? It doesn't seem to have similar containment relationship like LinearLayout or RelativeLayout viewgroups.
I want to do this entirely in an xml layout file. When I put ImageButton xml tags inside a GridView xml body, The layout panel in eclipse is throwing an exception: UnsupportedOperationException:addView(View, LayoutParams) is not supported in AdapterView.

How do I go about creating the following layout in Android?
I want a "header", that is, a header that stays the same at all times. The only thing that should change is the area below the header.
Think of it as a webpage, where the content-area is where its all happening =)

Sure, its easy enough to create a LinearLayot, add a View on the top and then another view below that - tada! But what Im after is how you "set up" or design the project so its easy to just change whats in the Content.
What I really would like is to be able to "swipe" (see here) the area and then just "roll in" a new View/thing in the Content-area, but keep the same header.

When a TabWidget is using intents to designate the target Activity for each tab, is there any special handling of those Activities on the Activity Stack outside of the default operation? For Instance, if my app has tabs A, B, and C, and I click them in this order--A, B, A, C, A, B--how will the Activity stack change? My understanding of the default operation, if startActivity() is called each time on the intent, would have the Stack keep loading up new instances of the activities: A, AB, ABA, ABAC, ABACA, ABACAB It's hard to believe that's how it works though... Seems like it would be a waste of resources and could be endless. Can anyone tell me how this will actually work?

I am working on developing an app and I am not sure when should I use a new activity and when should I update the existing view.
For example, lets say I have a view that shows a multiple choice question.Now, when the user selects his choices and clicks on say "Evaluate", I want to show the same question view but along with the right answers and explanations for each option. So does that mean, I should send an Intent upon a click on Evaluate or I should just update the view (i am not sure how)?
If I send an intent and show a new screen, how can the user go back to the next question without displaying the answers? If I don't create an new activity, how can I update the existing view that is already displayed?

I have a registration form in a LinearLayout as shown below:When emulator screen is in it's default position it is working fine. But when I rotate the emulator screen it only displays the elements which are fit to screen and remaining are wrap up. I'm trying create a scaling layout for an Android application. The whole screen should contain two areas. The top 3/4 of the screen should be a MapView showing a certain area. The remaining quarter of the screen should contain some textual information to certain places shown on the map.
So now I'm wondering what is the best practice to archive this layout the 3:1 ratio of the screen partition? Is there a way to set this ratio in the layout xml file or do I have to calculate and set it manually by code in the corresponding activity?

I want to dynamically add some views to a LinearLayout that is already defined in XML.
I'm able to add views to the screen but they are not being placed 'inside' the right LinearLayout.

Just have a look in the system app contacts --->add new contact, this activity have a listview with different structured views for each row. I could do this by override the "getView" method, but a problem I'm facing is edittext will lose focus when I click on it. What happened when the view enter touch mode?

How can i create layout style similar to settings in Andriod emulator? Example, in andriod T mobile, you can see, under settings, list of settings like Wireless control Call settings Sound & display Security & location etc are displayed ine by line accordingly with with brief description of each title provided with down arrows.
I would like to create to use in my application for list of items. But i cant find any tutorials similar to that display. I only found out like list view on the whole black background.
I just want to display like the settings display in emulator?

I am trying to do a layout similar to the one used in iphone for the weather app:

This layout scrolls left/right very smoothly, and only loads the weather as you scroll.
HorizontalScrollView cant be used because it loads everything in memory, so not a good idea. Gallery will be similar to the iphone, but it has many problems when you put ListViews inside it, so also not good.
Is there any other layout like that? or do I have to build my custom layout? In case it must be custom, do you know any site/app/code where they have done something similar?
