HTC EVO 4G :: HDMI Grainy Picture / Having No Sound

Jun 21, 2010

So I had originally bought a HDMI from Amzer and it didn't work at all butts only 9 bucks. So I went to the Sprint store and paid 31 for one of theirs. The new one kind of works but only if you juggle the cord just right. The picture that shows up is very very grainy and has NO sound! So is the cable junk or is my HDMI port on my phone possibly junk?

Motorola : Droid X Camera Not Working After Update / No Sound - Picture?

Jul 21, 2010

Got the Droid X on 7/15, everything was great, got the system update, now the camera won't work. Black screen only, even though both the Camera and Camcorder apps behave like they're working (with a black screen). Cannot take pictures at all, can take video, although no image is shown and playback of videos is a completely black screen.

I look in the camera and it looks like the shutter is open, although I'm not 100% certain what a closed shutter would look like. I think I can see the lens.

I did a full System Restore, the problem did not go away.

I've tried the camera app from the marketplace, facebook, etc., all treat the camera in the same way: just a black screen.

Trying to take a picture, the focus noise doesn't even sound.

This was working prior to the update, albeit in a leggy manner. Should I return my Droid X, or is there some other software / use fix I have not tried?

HTC EVO 4G :: HTC EVO Poor Picture And Poor Sound Quality

Jul 23, 2010

I use to own a palm pre before I switched to HTC EVO. I think the evo is a great phone but the two things I missed so much about my palm pre is the camera and the sound qualities.

The EVO is said to use 8MP for its camera but honestly the camera quality is nothing compare to the palm pre. Simply put, the camera and the sound output on the evo sucks.

You can clearly notice the difference between the pictures I took using the pre and the evo. The pre gives far better picture quality and also better sound output. I always enjoy plays my sounds or using pandora on my pre, but with the evo the different is the case. The sound quality with the evo is horrible even when plugged to good speakers.

I bearly take picture with the evo because I am used to good picture quality with my pre.

I have had the evo for less than two weeks and i am seriously thinking of returning it because of these two issues.

I really want to know, is this poor picture and poor sound qualities a thing with the evo in general or is it just with the particular evo that I got.

Android :: Can't Catch OutOfMemoryException?

Aug 19, 2009

I'm writing an app dealing with JPEG pictures. The main Activity let the user slide between a set of pictures, but if these pictures are too large (imagine a set of pictures taken with a 12Mpix camera, not resized), the pre-loading of the second picture throws an OutOfMemoryException that leads to an immediate app VM shutdown whereas I surrounded my calls to BitmapFactory.decodeXXX() whit a try/ catch(Exception). So, the user gets an error message making him think the app is unstable, and the app didn't have any chance of telling him what really happened. How can I handle this a more "user friendly" way? Can I predict the memory size that will be necessary to load a compressed JPEG picture?

Android :: Playing Catch Up

Jan 11, 2010

I was in my jeep the other day when I heard a ad for some song and a itagging...That got me thinking. Now before the fanboy name calling starts, this is not a comparison to iPhone. I have never owned one, nor shall I ever. I think for the android based phone to compete more with the whole iphone market, I think we need to develop our own brand of iTagging, our own brand of iPhone docks, and our own version of iTunes. I understand that the iPhone has been out for a long time and has had the media market to back it up. Heres the thing. There are way more versions of android based phones that there will be of iPhones. I know that there are a lot of variations of the phones, but its nothing adapters cant fix for the docks. as for the itagging, and the itunes apps, its nothing a dev cant handle. I am not a Dev, nor am I a manufacturer, but Im sure some of us can find a friend of a friend who knows this guy that lives down the street to help out our cause...

Android :: Stop Application Catch

May 25, 2010

I have five screen in my application. While in performing one action in fifth screen I encountered with Stop Application message. On which, I am getting 3 times "Stop Application" msg box, which covers 3 previous screen and comes back to the first screen. I understand I must have encountered with Error may be IndexOutOfBoundException which I have not addressed it in my code. I was wondering why it asks for extra 3 times "Stop Application" system message. It is fine to display an "Stop Application" system message if I encountered an error in any screen it should stop that particular screen and should come to the next screen on. How can I trap/catch such incidents not to occur in the consecutive screen. If the above description is not clear at any place please let me know that I be more clear to you.

Android :: How To Catch Map Zoom In / Out Event

Jan 14, 2010

Does anybody know how to catch the map zoom in/out event for Android 1.5?Before Android 1.5, I can use ZoomControls which has a setOnZoomInClickListener(). In order to get zoom controls, I can write like this:ZoomControls mZoom = (ZoomControls) mMapView. getZoom Controls(); But, since 1.5, the mMapView.getZoomControls() is deprecated. Instead of this, the documentation suggests using mMapView.setBuiltInZoomControls.Since 1.6, I can use ZoomButtonsController, which has a set OnZoomListener(). In order to get zoom button controls, I can write like this:ZoomButtonsController mZoom = (ZoomButtonsController) mMapView.getZoomButtonsController().setOnZoomListener(this);So, how can I get map zoom in/out event without using mMapView.getZoomControls() for Android 1.5 ?

Android :: Can't Catch Java.lang.VerifyError

Jan 6, 2010

I'm getting this error: "Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception java.lang.VerifyError" It's only happening on 1.6. Android 2.0 and up doesn't have any problems, but that's the main point of all. Can't catch the Error/Exception (VerifyError), and I know it's being caused by calling isInitialStickyBroadcast() which is not available in SDK 4, that's why it's wrapped in the SDK check. I just need this BroadcastReceiver to work on 2.0+ and not break in 1.6, it's an app in the market, the UNDOCK feature is needed for users on 2.0+ but obviously not in 1.6 but there is a fairly amount of users still on 1.6.

private BroadcastReceiver mUndockedReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver()
{
@Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent)
{
//FROM ECLAIR FORWARD, BEFORE DONUT THIS INTENT WAS NOT IMPLEMENTED
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= 5)
{
if (!isInitialStickyBroadcast()) {
int dockState = intent.getExtras().getInt("android.intent.extra.DOCK_STATE", 1);
if (dockState == 0)
{
finish();
}
}
}
}
};

Android :: Catch When Press Home Button?

Nov 4, 2010

I am trying to catch when the user has pressed the Home button. I thought I could use

protected void onResume()
{
registerReceiver(homeReceiver, new IntentFilter(Intent.CATEGORY_HOME));
}
...
private BroadcastReceiver homeReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver()
{
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent)
{
// logic here
}
};

but that doesn't seem to work. I understand that onPause will be called, but my particular app has some logic that I need to handle separately. Short story is based on some info coming in, the app will display new Activities to the user. To prevent Back button issues, as each Activity hits it's onStop it calls finish on itself. However if the user presses the Home button I do not want the Activity to call finish so that when the user presses the app icon on the home screen or via the Recently run apps list, the last Activity is brought back
