Apr 1, 2010I am trying to find an app that will keep a list of my books. I found one on Androlib calledBookWorm but I cant find it in the app market any other suggested apps.

HTC Aria :: Phone Book Lists SIM And Google Duplicates Names
Nov 9, 2010When i use the phone function, I see duplicates of many names because it displays both my SIM contacts and Google contacts (my phone contacts are zero). How can i just set it to google contacts when using "Phone"? BTW - this whole multiple contact lists thing does not seem to be the best sorted out arrangement (Phone, SIM, Google). Can anyone confirm the the SIM list can't handle email addresses?

Android :: Scrolling Large Lists Of Cursor-based Adapters Is Faster Than Much Smaller Lists Of In-memory Adapters
Nov 3, 2010I have an Android app that has both CursorAdapter based ListViews (backed by sqlite) as well as custom BaseAdapter based ListViews which are built on the fly from JSON pulled down from a server.
The data displayed in both is identical - an image and a couple of TextViews. My Cursor-based ListView has 3000 rows, the JSON-based ListView has about 30. However, scrolling down the list is significantly faster for the Cursor-based adapter. For the JSON-based lists, the data is all fetched before the rows are made visible. Images for both types of lists are downloaded on-demand.
I have both ListViews configured identically - both with fastScrollEnabled, scrollingCache and smoothScrollbar set to true.
I'm looking for leads on how to go about trying to figure out what's going on here and to potentially fix it so that the JSON-based ListViews as as fast as the Cursor-based ones.

Oct 22, 2009I think this is something we need a post covering. So many people are using task managers, which is likely un-necessary for the most part, and quite a few folks don't know what they can and cannot safely kill. All of the task managers I have tried include an ignore list so I figured I'd post what I have ignored in TasKiller, along with what I know about each item, and hopefully others will do that same and we can some up, at the very least as set of stock applications to ignore and maybe some help keeping other application running correctly. So here is my ignore list and what I know about each item (hopefully the ones I don't know about can be explained by others):
Stock:
Touch Input - Reasons obvious by the name
HtcIQAgent - Not sure what it does exactly but it should be left running
IQRD - Not sure
OMADM - Not sure
HTC Sense - The Sense UI - Killing it only causes it to reload and auto-killing it would loop your phone into oblivion
Clock - The clock backend - Killing it will cause your alarms not to go off
Calendar - The calendar backend - Killing it will stop calendar syncing and cause you not to receive reminders for calendar events
com.coremobility.app.vnotes - The voicemail backend - Killing it will cause you not to get visual voicemail notification and stop you from being able to listen to voicemails through the voicemail app.
Mail - The Mail backend - Killing it will cause the phone to stop syncing mail from any account other the google account you associated your phone with.
Gmail - The google backend for your phone's associated account - Killing this will stop you from syncing with your phone's associated account.
Third Party:
Astrid - The Astrid widget's sync backend - Killing this will stop Astrid from syncing.
Handcent SMS - Killing this will stop the Handcent SMS process and cause Handcent to load again when you get a message which degrades performance.
That's all I have on ignore list for TasKiller. I don't use the widget to kill everything anymore because it's not necessary and I tend to dump any app that doesn't properly manager memory and sleep and either do without or find a replacement. The ignore list is still nice because TasKiller won't let you kill an ignored app and lets you hide them as well. I hope more folks will share their ignore lists.
HTC Hero :: How To Use An Android Address Book?
Jan 27, 2010Could someone please explain to me how to use the address book? I'm so irritated with how user unfriendly the address book... and every contact I've ever contacted is, that I'm nearly ready to jump ship. Usually I go to the dialer, and just type in a name. For instance, when people ask me my work cell number, I have to look it up. Normally, I'll go to the dialer, type in the first three letters of my name, then select the icon on the right to go to my entry. Easy. But when I'm on a call, and someone asks for my number, I go to "people" (or what seems to be the address book) and I type the first three letters of my name and every entry for James Kever shows up as James Kever. So my work number, my email address, my home number... every entry for me shows up... but ONLY shows up as James Kever. I have no idea which of the four entries is my work number. It's the same when I search for other people. I have 6 entries for my brother... all of them say Chris Kever.

Aug 2, 2010I don't really like the stock address book on the Hero. I find the slide bar to be cumbersome because the bar is only there when you touch the screen and the letters on the slide bar only show up one by one as you slide the bar down. Is there a better address book program or application out there?

Sep 15, 2009On my old Windows Mobile phone in my address book I had companies listed in the "Organisations" field. They appeared in alphabetical order amongst the normal surname, forename entries and it worked really well.While searching my phone desperately for an urgent number today I found that not only does it not display the organisation but it refuses to search by it, making a good 25% of my numbers impossible to find.What can I do this, and please don't say go through all of my contacts by hand putting the business name in the "surname" field because that is so rubbish.

For each of my contact in address book there's a little green icon near the name, with a number that indicates the number of "unread" notifications. May 20, 2010A problem that I'm having is that I can't jump through the address book (people) by selecting a letter, I have to manually scroll through the entire address book to get to a phone number or contact that I want. On my old phone, there was an alphabetical slide bar, so that I could jump to any letter in my contacts. Now, when I want to call someone with a name starting with the letter Z, I have to manually scroll through my entire address book to get to that name.

Oct 16, 2009My address book is all over the place! I am coming from a BB curve 3300, i had my contact list with numbers and emails within same field per person. When the address book was transfered over to my Hero, i received 3 to 4 different fields per person! May 26, 2010Okay, I don't even know how to search for this question, so I am just going to ask it.
I've only been an Android/HTC Hero user for about a week now, and have a weird thing happening with my Hero. I've probably done something to cause this, but, I can't figure it out.
I have several contacts in my People list, and most of them have multiple phone numbers listed with them. When I choose People, and then say my sister, who has two mobile numbers, a work number and a home number, I get a small detailed card that pretty much fills the screen and allows me to choose a number to call mobile, call home, call work, then it says send message to each number, send email.
But, say when I choose my wife, I can only Call Other, Edit Contact, Delete Contact and Send Contact as vCard.
It didn't used to do this. It used to give me these choices for my wife too. My wife has a home number, a cell number, a truck number, I need to be able to text her cell, etc. Basically, I need the same options for her as I have for my sister.
I have the same issue with many of my contacts. I don't know what happened to cause this. Any help fixing this would be much appreciated. Hopefully, I won't have to do a master reset to do so!

Jul 12, 2010I'm new to android development but I have run through various tutorials and am slowly grasping how to develop apps. I modified the Tab Layout tutorial on the android dev website to fit my needs, and now I need to add a list on to each tab I have created. there are a total of seven tabs and each will have it's on specific list. If someone could point me in the right direction to adding a list per tab that would be great. Each tab has it's own class file, would I add the list items as strings in the strings.xml then add code to each tab's class file in order to populate the tab? This was the only thing I have found so far, but it hasn't worked.
