Jan 23, 2009I am working on an app where I would like to display HTML data to the user. The HTML includes CSS stylesheets and images (JPG and PNG), but no javascript and definitely no network access. The data is being read from a ZIP file on the sdcard. I initially assumed I could create a WebView and use that to display my HTML, but there seems to be no way to also pass in the style and image resources. Some posts I saw suggested creating a ContentProvider, but this has a few problems for me: a) security: I want to keep all the data inside this app. There's no need for a ContentProvider if I don't want other apps using the content, right? b) files: The ContentProvider's openFile() method returns a ParcelFileDescriptor, which can only be created from a Socket or a File. I have neither, I have an InputStream. So it seems there's no way to return the image and style data from a ContentProvider anyway.

Unlike in most of the examples the HTML page itself is not located in the assets folder but is loaded from a server via http. The background of this question are some performance improvements which should reduce the loading time (and the amount of transferred data) by loading static images directly from the device. I'm not sure if Android has some restrictions here because there's a certain possibility to exploit the app by allowing access to the local file storage from a remotely loaded webpage.

The question I have is, why will HTML mail only show the attachments/pictures in the mail widget. The same email will not display in gmail. How can I get gmail to show HTML images?

I need Android-specific html code in order for my webpage to be displayed properly on my Android web browser. If I'm right, I'm hoping the android-specific code wouldn't affect Windows desktop web browser viewing.
Below is my best attempt to make this work. But, my Android just laughed at me.

I like having my Hotmail pushed to me and because the HTC client doesn't support Hotmail push I've downloaded and used the stock android email.apk. It works fine (pushes) but the emails are not HTML. There is no option to display as HTML but I've seen it display HTML from other email clients!

Is it possible to download 9 patch png files from a webserver then display it as a background of a layout while keeping the information inside the file like the stretchable pixel? I have tried using a 9 patch image coming from the resource drawable directory of my project and it displays correctly...stretching only those pixels marked as stretchable but when I tried to download a 9 patch image from my web server then the application will use the downloaded 9 patch image the stretchable pixels does not take effect..i mean instead of stretching only those pixels that where marked as stretchable it stretched the whole image.
