Android :: Way To Make Second Line Indented?
Nov 19, 2010
I want to have the second line (and third, fourth, etc.) of my TextView indented, is that possible? I don't know the exact TextView's text in advance. The text will be without newline characters - it will be wrapped to lines automatically by the TextView.

I have an image of a map. I want to draw lines over that image.I have successfully displayed both the line and the image. But , the line is not transparently appearing over the image. The image is only displayed when i run the program. But,if i change the coordinates of the line so that it doesn't overlap with the image,the line is getting displayed.
Pls tell me what i should do to make the line transparent so that both the image and the line are getting displayed.

I have developed a program that will allow android users to navigate through the files. But the problem is that when I use the "ls" command it doesn't make always a new line after each file but it places it in one line. Here is a screenshot
So my question is: Is there a way to make it list each file in new line? (using adb commands)

It doesn't seem to matter what the source email is (gmail, hotmail, etc). Some emails are ok some are not. Anyone else have this problem? Any fixes?

I'm working on a game which will use projectiles. So I've made a Projectile class and a new instance is created when the user touches the screen:
@Override
public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent e){
float touch_x = e.getX();
float touch_y = e.getY();
new Projectile(touch_x, touch_y);
And the Projectile class:
public class Projectile{
float target_x;
float target_y;
Path line;
public Projectile(float x, float y)
target_x = x;
target_y = y;
line = new Path();
line.moveTo(MyGame.mPlayerXPos, MyGame.mPlayerYPos);
line.lineTo(target_x, target_y);
So this makes a Path with 2 points, the player's position and and touch coords. My question is - How can you access points on this line? For example, if I wanted to get the x,y coords of the Projectile at the half point of the line, or the point the Projectile would be at after 100 ticks (moving at a speed of X pixels/tick)? I also need the Projectile to continue moving after it reaches the final point. Do I need to use line.addPath(line) to keep extending the Path?
I managed to get the Projectiles moving in a straight line, but they're going in strange directions. I had to fudge some code up:
private void moveProjectiles(){
ListIterator<Projectile> it = Registry.proj.listIterator();
while ( it.hasNext() ){
Projectile p = it.next();
p.TimeAlive++;
double dist = p.TimeAlive * p.Speed;
float dx = (float) (Math.cos(p.Angle) * dist);
float dy = (float) (Math.sin(p.Angle) * dist);
p.xPos += dx;
p.yPos += -dy;
The Angle must be the problem. I'm using this method, which works perfectly:
private double getDegreesFromTouchEvent(float x, float y){
double delta_x = x - mCanvasWidth/2;
double delta_y = mCanvasHeight/2 - y;
double radians = Math.atan2(delta_y, delta_x);
return Math.toDegrees(radians);
However, it returns 0-180 for touches above the center of the screen, and 0 to -180 for touches below.

Anyways I need to create an AVD with the command line can someone please tell me the steps or tell me somewhere I can read up on this. I'm still pretty new to Android and programming in general, and I can't seem to get the command line tools packaged with the Android SDK to work. I'm running Mac OSX and each time I try to run layoutopt, for example, the terminal returns, *-bash: cmd: command not found. Also, is it okay to have my SDK located in the Developer directory and my android project in some unrelated directory when using these tools?

I'm trying to draw out a race track in a map overlay. I have a series of locations that define the track. I have the drawing working fine just using canvas.drawLine() from one point to the next. But, understandably, this looks kind of choppy. Is there a decent way to smooth the line out?

When I try extending the View class to a subclass that will underline portions of the text drawn by ListView, the code compiles okay but results in a runtime exception apparently due to an improper class cast. Does anyone see what I've done wrong or have suggestions about getting access to the Canvas of ListView items so portions of text can be underlined?
Here is the code, which is the Efficient Adapter View/List example from ApiDemos with an added UnderlinedView class.

I have been searching for something like this for a while, finally made what I think is a decent solution on my own, and wanted to share it with the community. Comments would be appreciated, I think I may have some small bugs in the equality checking if the lines are parallel (I might need a <= where I have a < in case the last point is the overlap). Hopefully there are no glaring errors. Code...

I can't figure out how to get the platform files for development, without running 'android' and starting the GUI. I want to avoid running GUI applications on my dev server, since it's headless and I don't want to forward X particularly. I can't imagine that it does anything more than figure out your platform, pull down a tarball and unpack it, surely this doesn't necessitate a gui, does anyone know how I can get the platform files without it?
