Android :: Hidden Links Still Clickable On Browser
May 13, 2010
I've got a contextual menu that appears when a button is clicked. This menu has some links and after some seconds is hidden again. The problem is that after the menu has disappeared the links are still there. They are not shown but are clickable and the green border appears. And after some seconds they disappear. I've tryied many ways of hiding the menu: display: none, visibility: hidden, width: 0, height: 0, jquery hide, jquery fadeout... but none worked. Also hidding the links. Does anyone have a idea about what's happening? With the rest of the browsers it works without problem

Android is highlighting the links in the TextView, but they do not respond to clicks. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Do I have to set an onClickListener for the TextView in my activity for something as simple as this?

I have a TextView in my layout which has an attribute "clickable=true" set in XML. This is to allow it behave like a button with both text and icon. Now, I add to that TextView HTML text via call HTML.fromHtml(), and apply Linkify.addLinks after that. The problem is: in such configuration, links are not clickable. Is there any suggestion, how to allow user click on links, other from creating custom TextView-based class?

I have installed Dolphin and like it, and I've made it my default browser, which is great. However, it is not only the system default, but it even opens links I click on in the Android provided browser (sometimes I both open). On your computer, when you click links in your non-default browser it doesn't send the links to the default one, and it shouldn't on this OS, either. Any ideas how to keep Dolphin as my system default browser, but not have it open links I click on in the Android web browser?

I'd like to be able prompt my app to open link (instead of the browser) when the user clicks on a URL of a given pattern. This could be when the user is on a web page in the browser, or in an email client, or a WebView in a freshly minted app.
For example, click on a YouTube link from anywhere in the phone and you'll be given the chance to open the YouTube app.
How do I achieve this for my own app.

Does anyone else have an issue when the links stop working on the browser? They'll highlight like it's clicked on, but goes no where, not even a loading bar. Usually, killing the app or restarting the phone works, just annoying sometimes. Opening it into another window sometimes works, unless it thinks you're trying to copy/paste the text.

I am a newcomer to Android having recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S I9000M (my first smartphone ever), marketed in Canada under the name Vibrant. It is running Android 2.1 and I have not yet rooted, unlocked or otherwise modified the phone.
I have downloaded and installed three browsers in addition to the stock Internet browser: Dolphin, Opera Mini and Opera Mobile.
After installing Opera Mobile I started having the following annoying problem:
When I was in the stock browser, every time I clicked a link the "Complete action using" window would pop up prompting me to select which browser I want to use. The choices were: Dolphin, Internet and Opera Mini (curiously, no Opera Mobile). I would check the "Use by default for this action" box and proceed to click "Internet" (the stock browser), which should have made the stock browser my default one. However, next time I clicked a link it would happen all over again.
This happened only in the stock browser, never in Dolphin or one of the Operas.
It's like my Android kept forgetting my choice of default browser although in the settings for the stock browser it said it was default.
I also noticed that after the installation of Opera Mobile the delay between clicking a link in any browser and the browser's reaction became noticeably longer (up to a second).

YouTube links will always open in browser rather than youtube app.
I have tried Boat Browser and Dolphin, and they both behave the same way. If I google search for a youtube video through one of those browsers, and I click the youtube link from the google results... it will go to the youtube mobile page within the browser (rather than open the youtube app and play the video).
How to force the youtube app to always play videos linked from browsers?

I'm a subscriber to a show which I listen to on the PC while I work. I'd like to be able to listen to it on my new Droid X.There are three links on the site. The first one streams to windows media player. The second link streams to real audio. The third link downloads a podcast in mp3 format. So far I haven't figured out how to get any of them to work.The windows media link brings up a video player that says the file can not be displayed or played.The RA link downloads an .ra file. Selecting the file brings up the stock music player, which says it can't play the file. (I do have the RA beta installed but it doesn't appear to be associated with .ra files and I don't know how to fix that. Are there mime types in android?)The mp3 link gives the error "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone." Now that's just wrong. It's an MP3 file. The stock player should be able to play it.I'm not greedy -- I'd be happy if any one of these three possibilities worked.

I get a google calendar invitation in the GMail app, but when I click on one of the yes/no/maybe links, it opens in the browser, not in my calendar app.
I immediately tried to clear defaults, but none existed on gmail, browser, chrome or calendar app. I tried disabling browser/chrome/ and bionic default calendar, and installed Google Calendar from play store....problem still happened.
(edit, of course browser/chrome didn't open when they were disabled, but I was surprised that Google Calendar also did not open). I'm rooted, but running regualar moto ics
I'm at a loss. I know a number of google updated a number of apps lately, wondering if that broke something.

With the newest Dolphin Browser update there is a key feature missing.
Normally if there is a link, in my case a podcast, and if you long press the link it pops up with a menu and one of the options is to "save link" which is basically the same as right clicking on a PC and saving the target as.

I noticed something odd. I have a listview with custom BaseAdapter, and getView() inflates a layout. On 1.6 SDK (I've been developing on a G1), if I set android:clickable="true" on the layout, then the item is NOT clickable (but otherwise the item is clickable). Is this the correct behavior? It seems backwards to me. Furthermore, no matter now matter how i set android:clickable for the same layouts using 2.2 SDK (run using emulator), the layout always is clickable... eh? I'm really bothered by this.

I need to display a pretty image of a map of Europe, and I want my app to, e.g. bring up a different activity, when the user clicks each country - each country on the map needs to have a different onClickListener (or equivalent). Essentially, I need to be able to call a different function when the user taps on France rather than Spain in an image such as this:http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blank_map_of_Europe_cropped.svg How would I best go about this on Android?

I have a ImageView and draw some things on that view. Now I want to have the position of the click in the onClickListener. Although I think that's not really possible (storing the position in the onTouchListener is not working), I want to ask, if there is any other way to accomplish that? The goal is to have a image with some overlays, that should be clickable. I thought about AbsolutLayout, but that is depracated, so what now?

I'm subclassing InputMethodService to create my own personal keyboard. A lot of stuff already works quite nice. But now I'm playing around with the suggestion bar (also called "candiate view"). For now I'm just trying to load a static layout with one button in it:
@Override public View onCreateCandidatesView() {
LayoutInflater mLayoutInflater = LayoutInflater.from(this);
mView = mLayoutInflater.inflate(R.layout.suggestion_bar, null);
return mView;
}
The result looks like this: Which is exactly what I expected, but with one big issue: the button in the suggestion bar is not selectable or clickable at all.

Anyone run across an app like that?
Seems like a pretty easy app to write, but I am having a hard time finding one...

I have a clickable TextView with a drawable as its background. I'm looking for the right way to implement a down-state drawable so the background changes when the user presses down. I have been able to almost perfectly replicate this behavior by listening for MotionEvents and changing the background when the user is pressing down.. The only thing that doesn't match up with system-wide down state behavior here is that if the user keeps holding down and moves their finger off the button, the state remains down until they release their finger from the screen... whereas in Maps overlays or Buttons or ListViews or anything else the state immediately goes back to off when the finger moves from the object.
