Android :: Virtual Keyboard Turn On Kaps Lock - Display First Letter Capital And Rest Of Them Small On It?
May 17, 2010
I have an edit text field. When the user clicks on it by default it shows small letters on the virtual keyboard.
I want by default to display first letter caps and rest of them small on the keyboard.
How can this be done?

I think this has to be a problem with the SD card and scanning it, but for some reason after syncing my phone, plugging it into the computer to charge, or even plugging it in to charge in the car, my music playlists seem to be duplicating all the time. I have loaded my playlists using Doubletwist (Slower than hell freezing over), I have tried Doubletwist, Mixzing, Cube, and Zimly and all have shown some or all of the duplicates. I have had it with Mixzing because of this, but the others seem to be doing it as well, just not as much. I have actually had up to 6 copies of the same playlist at one time. There is still only 1 music playlist that has songs in it, but there are 2, 3, or up to 6 copies for some reason. Another strange thing is the original actual playlist has each word starting with Capitals, but the copies are are small case. I've looked all over my SD card to see if I can find where these "phantom" playlists are stored, but I haven't found anything yet.
Also, after that stupid Froyo update, my phone won't allow me to play anything from the SD card when it is plugged in. Yes, I have tried changing the setting from Charge only to all of the other 3 options at one time or another, but in my car, it refuses to allow access to the SD card when plugged in regardless of what I do or what setting I have changed. Not impressed with the Froyo update AT ALL! This morning my SD card decided to lose all of my videos that were on it (5 GB worth) and about 1/3 of my music. I have no idea where they went, but they are gone. This phone was awesome in most every way until that stupid update, I wish I could go back to 2.1! My Pandora sucks now, my Multi-touch keyboard won't work anymore, I lost a whole bunch of files off my SD card as mentioned above, and I haven't noticed a single benefit other than my camera opens quicker now.

I disabled Sense but now want to turn it back on, but I don't see an obvious way to do this. Anyone know how? Also, are there good alternate virtual keyboards for the EVO? Not sure how much I'm liking the stock one.

I'm getting the G1 next weekend and am wondering how long until a virtual keyboard will be available. I really like the idea of having a full slide-out keyboard but I would also like a virtual one so if I'm not wanting to say much I can just use the virtual keyboard or if I'm in an area where it needs to be quiet I don't need to have the sound of the keyboard sliding open.

Loving the phone but every once in a while - like three times yesterday and once today the touchscreen goes haywire. I click on an icon and it doesnt register or the icon below is activated. On the keyboard I tap a letter and another key is activated. If I turn off phone and then back on all is perfect again for a while. It seems to be happening in the lower third of the screen. Anyone experience this? Do you think software or hardware? Im thinking software because the reset fixes problem.

Basically I want to capture Alt-key combination to provide some customized alternative text input. For example Alt-f would put FOO into the text field. However there doesn't seem to be ALT key on the virtual keyboard in ether portrait or landscape. Is it possible to fake Alt key on the virtual keyboard somehow?

I have developed an app that uses setTextFilterEnabled(true). It works perfectly on my G1. My partner has a new MyTouch phone that does not have a real keyboard. He cannot use this functionality at all. He tried holding down the menu key(and so have I) but the keyboard does not appear. Without a keyboard, this app is dead on arrival.
I am trying the following code to no avail.

It happened 2 times already. I open the slide out keyboard and start typing an email, some letters (like C) does not type so I try a few times clicking the key and it types. then when I hit A the entire text is highlighted and the next character that I type replaces the highlighted text. You can imagine how annoying this can be. I thought I must have done something wrong and examined that the fn key was not pressed (cycled through it by pressing fn 3 times). No luck. I tried the same thing in 5 min and it all worked fine. I am baffled.

Using the 1.5 SDK. I have an application with a TabActivity and when I change from one tab with edit fields to another that does not need any user input I would like the virtual keyboard to be hidden. I've tried setting android:windowSoftInputMode="stateAlwaysHidden" on the manifest for the activity that doesn't need user input but it didn't work (maybe because the activity is triggered by a TabActivity).
I've found the method hideSoftInputMethod(IBinder, int) in the InputMethodManager class but I don't know how to get the IBinder object that this method needs.
How do I get that IBinder object? Are there other ways to hide the soft keyboard?
It would be even better if I could make the soft keyboard automatically hide when an EditText loses focus.

I was fillding with EditText and handling of events, and I was wondering on a strange thing:
If you press some of the keys (for example forward slash '/') on the emulated physical keyboard, the keyevents are called as usual (onKeydown, the KeyListeners etc). If I click on the corresponding virtual key on the onscreen virtual keyboard, all these callbacks do not get called at all! This is strange, given that If I press other keys like alhpanumerical, the events are called.

I need help with showing the integrated virtual keyboard on-screen. I extended a View class and I implemented these two methods (most of it is just stub code; for now I only want to display the keyboard):
CODE:.............
Where editor is an instance of my View. I noticed in the debugger that my onCreateInputConnection() is executed but after that the keyboard is not displayed on the screen. Using the TextView widtget and it's subclasses is not an option.
