Android :: ViewSwitcher And Layout Height
Aug 24, 2010
I added a ViewSwitcher to a LinearLayout, which has two views of different height,However it seems the ViewSwitcher is occupying space of the biggest of the views, rather than arranging itself. Is this how it should be?What to do in the other case? I was trying to create an accordion, where the title panel, when clicked grows in size

If I have the following:
CODE:..............
How can I get the body (second EditText) to fill the rest of the screen, but still have the scrollview kick in when the contents of the body are too long? Like a height="wrap_content" and minHeight="fill_parent"
layout_height="fill_parent" seems to not do anything if you put them in a scrollview
A working example of what I want is the email app compose window
I tried this and the EditText elements act like they are wrap_content and no filling is happening. Just scrolling if you type enough

I have the following layout in my xml file:

android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<FrameLayout android:id="@+id/logoLayout"

android:layout_height="wrap_content">

Maybe I didn't do it in the best way. What I want: have the Layout that contains the 4 buttons to use the entire space between the top and bottom layout, and I want to have the button equally arranged in the layout. Something like this:

Every time that I want to do a Layout, I'm getting a black layout preview then I can drop stuff on it, that's ok, but how can I change the size of that blank surface (xml). The question came because I set a folder layout-large and then when I add a new layout.xml to that folder it came with the same size, as a layout-normal.

I have an activity that needs to do some stuff in the background. When the background is done, I want it to load a new activity.I can successfully kick off the async task and using using ViewSwitcher I can show a nice progress dialog. However, when the user hit 'back' or 'close' from the new task, I want them to see the main screen of this task again. So, I use the showPrevious() after I start the new Activity, but I see the screen switch from the loading window back to the main window BEFORE the new Acitivity is launched. How do I get it to switch after the new activity, or when they come back from the new activity?I tried onRestart() and onResume() but both of them seem to give me a view of -1 that I couldn't do much with.

I want to put a button next to a EditText and I want their heights to match. For example, from the built in Android browser:
The Go button is the same height as the EditText field.I know I could wrap both these views in a parent layout view, and set both of their heights to fill_parent, and that would make them match. However, I would like to do this without having to give the layout a static size.I would rather have the EditText take whatever height it needs based on the font size and then have the button next to it match whatever height that might be.Is this possible with an xml layout?

I am having problem with a GridView within a RelativeLayout, which is again within a ScrollView. The problem is that the height of the RelativeLayout is not following the height of the contents of the GridView. When there are more than one rows, the GridView is clipped and a scrollbar appears, which is undesirable. I have tried to illustrate my problem using an screenshot from the Android hierarchy viewer. You can see how the red RelativeLayout box has clipped the second row of the GridView. I am pasting the XML layout of the page (page.xml) and the individual grid item (griditem.xml). I have used the following code to inflate the grid items in the gridAdapter code:
CODE:.................
What I should do to have the height of the RelativeLayout follow the full length of the gridView?
Here is the screenshot: http://tinypic.com/r/98rs4n/4

ListView list = (ListView)findViewById(R.id.snListView); then:

<ListView
android:id="@+id/snListView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" >
</ListView>
and sn_row.xml:
[Code]...
At the moment I have cell's height 100dp, I need that cell's height will depend on device, I mean I have here 5 cells showing at login screen in ListView and I need that these 5 rows will fit the ListView (cell's height = ListView's height/5).

While developing for Android, I am unable to open more than one main.xml file in an Eclipse editor at a time. Each time I open one, it simply replaces the editor (tab) of the first main.xml with the new one, instead of opening a new tab - even if the contents of the existing tab were unsaved.Even stranger, I can open multiple main.xml files from different projects with no problems. This only happens when they're within the same project.

I am giving the height dynamically for the three layout in java file, so i need to give 12% of height to header and footer layout, and the remaining 75% i need to assign height to body layout. For that i have made the calculation as follow

WindowManager w = getWindowManager(); Display d = w.getDefaultDisplay(); int totalwidth_screen = d.getWidth(); int totalheight_screen = d.getHeight();..................

Is it possible to build a GridView object in XML with 3 columns and 4 rows of Image buttons? It doesn't seem to have similar containment relationship like LinearLayout or RelativeLayout viewgroups.
I want to do this entirely in an xml layout file. When I put ImageButton xml tags inside a GridView xml body, The layout panel in eclipse is throwing an exception: UnsupportedOperationException:addView(View, LayoutParams) is not supported in AdapterView.

I've successfully created a countdown kitchen timer activity, however my goal is to have an activity that has 3 timers on it that all work independently. I created a separate layout just for the timer itself and moved the timer code into a class and I've used layoutinflater to create the views and then added them into the linear layout for the activity. I get the layouts fine, however there's no functionality. There doesn't seem to be anything that ties the class code to the activity. How should I approach this? Can anyone point me to some working example code?

Imagine I have a toolbar implemented as a horizontal LinearLayout as follows:
[___Button1____] [___Button2___] [___Button3___] [___Button4___]
When someone clicks on Button2, I want the toolbar to change to:
[___Button1____] [___________Button2___________] [___Button3___]
The toolbar should transition from the first state to the second state through a smooth animation. I would like to use a scale animation on Button2, and while that is happening, Button3 and Button 4 should move to the right (while the animation is going on). At the end of the animation (or maybe during), I will fade Button4 out.
Question: How do I achieve an animation of the layout of the toolbar such that only one component (i.e. Button2) is being scaled while the others are not being scaled - the layout is simply updated during the animation of Button2.
I looked at LayoutAnimationController, but it does not appear to allow me to either:
1. specify different animations for the different components, OR
2. indicate that only animate one component and don't animate the others.
I can't scale the entire toolbar because that distorts Button1/3/4 which I don't want.
