I think it would be nice to start thread with your five (5) favorite Android Application & Games.
I'll be the first to start.
1. Waze - Real-time maps and traffic information based on the wisdom of the crowd
2. WiFinder - Nice look WiFi scanner allows you to connect all wifi networks: Open, WEP, WPA, WPA2.
3. Angry Birds - Great way to burn time, i really recommend for everyone even if you don't play much.
4. imo - Stay connected to your friends through all the protocols imo supports: AIM, Facebook, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, MySpace, Skype, and Yahoo.
5. Call Sift - convenient application that only allows urgent calls when youre busy
I want to be share my favorite apps with friends. Is there an application that makes this easy to do? I want to be able to select an application on my android and click a 'share this app' or 'send link to this app'. I would also like to mark my apps as favorite and have a list of favorite apps be 'shareable'
Any advice? is this possible today?
I would like to use some advanced and user friendly qwerty keyboard application in my newly bought HTC desire. I have already seen some good reviews on "Swype", "Better keyboard", "Ultra keyboard" etc. I would like to have your feedback in this regard. Please share with me, whether you are using default keyboard or some custom keyboard application.

private List<RunningAppProcessInfo> process;
private ActivityManager activityMan;
...
activityMan = (ActivityManager)getSystemService(Context.ACTIVITY_SERVICE);
process = activityMan.getRunningAppProcesses();
this works fine. When I call the processName field like
process.get(i).processName;
I get a name like com.android.mail for example.
what I'm trying to do is use this to get access to that application so I can display its icon to the user, but I cant find anything that lets me do this.
I'm testing this app on my hero so the api level is 3 (android 1.5).
Please list down your top android applications you.
View 49 Replies View RelatedI have a Droid X, and I got a nasty surprise after using it for a couple of weeks: I had gone through over 10 GB (not a typo) of bandwidth already, and earned a friendly call from Verizon telling me to shape up or they'd terminate my contract. Since then I've been running with background data turned off (settings -> data manager -> data delivery -> unchecked background data.) This works nicely and keeps my bandwidth down to usually a megabyte or so per day, preserves the battery, etc, but it seems like overkill. What I really want to find out is what was using so much bandwidth to begin with, and find a way to let my well-behaved apps run and update themselves, etc while preventing these bad ones from running. Anyone know of a way to track bandwidth usage on an app by app basis? Is that even possible? Or, has anyone else run into a similar problem and found a way to solve it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Xcode for a while, and I'd like to start developing Android Applications. However, the SDK is for Eclipse. I personally don't like Eclipse, because of the UI and it starts to suck on my iMac. I was wondering if it is possible to create Android Applications with the Xcode Tools so I can stay with my old friend Xcode (and maybe even Interface Builder (very unlikely) ö). Can anyone tell me?

View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst of all, as a fan of Android and non-developer I would like to participate to this rise of this platform. The ONLY way I've found to promote this platform and get Android being a leader in term of Mobile phone (and I hope soon) other devices OS is to talk about the huge potential of Android platform in my blog ( newtekno.over-blog.com) and also to help developpers on their activities and applications management thru a new Android Market Directory: android.touch-market.com ...

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm starting to develop an application for Google Android and heavily relying on a web API that can deliver data in a restful way via json or xml. I now have to decide which library to choose.
I saw that google includes org.json classes in the API but haven't tested them yet.
How are your experiences? What library/API should I use and why?
I want to release multiple applications to android marketplace which are all very slightly customized based on a code base. I can't just change the package indentifier in the AndroidManifest.xml file because several other things dependet on this like action identifiers and so on.
What is the best approach to release several apps based on one eclipse project with the same code base?
I have an application App1 which defines class A and uses instances of this class. What I want to achieve is - after App1 is installed on the device to be able to load App2 which defines and implements class B which is subclass of class A (imported from App1 package); and be able to get an instance of class B in the App1. Class B doesn't add any new interfaces, so using it as class A is ok. But I am not sure how to pass the instance of class B to App1 (preferrably without any user interaction).
Can anyone advise if this is feasible?
just last night i tried to log in and access the application section of this site. t o my surprise it said down for maintenance. View 1 Replies View RelatedCouple of questions regarding internal memory and the Android folders. I have over 125 apps on my phone, but I have hardly put a dent in my internal memory space. So my questions are:
1) Why is it helpful to move apps to SD if they take up such little space?
2) If I want to put *data* in internal memory (possible?), or in an Android local folder *not* on the SD card, where is the best place to put it?
I'm trying to programmatically determine what audio applications are installed on an Android phone. I'm able to enumerate all the installed applications, but don't yet see a way to figure out which ones are capable of playing audio? What property of the application would have to queried to determine if is capable of playing audio?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if the Android had any limitations that would prevent 300+ MB's worth of videos to be included in the application?
Currently, I have several iPhone apps that do this, and due to demand, I am looking at the possibility of porting them over to the Android.
I would like to extend the Android platform's default Gmail/Email applications either by plugging into their ContentProvider or by using intent filters. Essentially, I want to be able to scan incoming emails for special rules that will trigger events in my Android application. If scanning emails automatically isn't possible, then I would at least like to add a menu item to the email viewer screen that would allow the user to flag the email content as needing to be scanned.
Does the Gmail/Email applications allow you to extend them in this way?
For future reference, besides finding sample code or reading documentation provided by the author of an application, is there a standard way of finding out what intents are available for my application to use? Like a tool maybe?
