Android :: Strong Security Precautions For Droid App To Prevent It From Being Cracked?
Nov 18, 2010
Can you suggest me any good anti-crack approaches (other than a code obfuscation), considering that the paid apps on the Market are easily cracked, and the same goes for a basic server check after a PayPal transaction?
My idea is to have one (very important for the app) Java object saved on the server, and passed to the app each time when it starts. Do you think that this sounds good ?
Note that it is more like of a theoretical question, as I am not going to implement it in an app, I am more like seeking the knowledge for this rather than a concrete solution to a problem.
Even ones that you are not very sure if they are good or not. Remember, the question is for Android apps.

Does anyone who has the Motorola car mount know how strong the 3M tape on the dash adapter is? I'm concerned that if I put it on my dash I won't be able to remove it without taking part of the dash off with it. Does anyone have any experience with removing the plastic disk and tape?

Rooted droid, using Froyo Kangerade V5.0.9.
I was sitting next to my friend who just got a droid and is unrooted. I was explaining how great everything was, but he was skeptical to root as most of us have been.
I wanted to make a phone call so I picked up my droid, but I went between 0 bars to half a bar and had a weak to no signal. I dialed the number, but the call wasn't going through. He, on the other hand had 3-4 bars consistently. I was pretty embarrassed when I had to ask him to use unrooted droid. I even tried *228 but my reception was still poor.
How can you explain this? More importantly how can I get "more bars" and a stronger signal.

I just got the Motorola Droid a month ago and I cant help but think that soon if not already the processor inside it will be obsolete and start to not be strong enough for future apps/games and/or Android updates. What do you guys think?

How strong is the vibrate mode on the Evo? I currently have a Hero and I miss calls all the time because it vibrates so weakly. This is huge for me because I actually leave my ringer off most of the time. Anybody had any problems with it? Anybody own a Hero previously and know what I'm talking about?
My Evo should be arriving in the mail Monday. I'm excited, but I will have to seriously consider returning it if I have to keep telling my girlfriend that I didn't feel her phonecall.

So my Desire's been working perfectly since I got it on Saturday. Today I've noticed that it's not using mobile data. Not an issue at home with my wi-fi or at work* but it's irritating. I haven't changed any settings and triple checked that every box that should be checked is. Anyone else with a Desire having this problem? Is there a T-mobile hiccup today?
Though I can't see how it would make a difference, today was the day my old number got ported over. Oh. They mentioned there would be connectivity problems during the transition period.

My wifes screen cracked on her Eris. And get this......it was from wiping it off on her shirt. She simply wiped it on the front of her shirt and now there are like 4 long cracks from the bottom right up to the top left. You can see some liquid seeping out also. She didn't wipe it hard, either. I'm wondering if the Eris kind of "twisted" while wiping and that caused it to crack. Now if you twist it a bit it creaks.
The cracks seem to be on the interior of the screen, and you can't feel them on the face of the screen.
Is the Eris that delicate that the screen can crack wiping it on your shirt? Very dissapointing. I suppose I'll have to end up dishing out $89 for a crappy refurbished one from Assurion. I'll take pics when I can.

I have the original Droid. I take very good care of it, but I needed to have the phone with me while I was at the gym last night and it fell out of my pocket and the screen cracked. It still works but the screen obviously needs to be replaced. I weep quietly every time I take the phone out of my pocket now to use it.
However, I have the Best Buy Geek Squad Blacktie Protection plan on the phone - the one for $10/mo. I am getting conflicting information as to whether they are going to take my phone and replace the glass or if they are just going to supply me with a new phone. I'll know more when I take it in for service.
My issue is this, I am rooted running a custom Froyo 2.2 ROM. Should I unroot and dial back to 2.1 before I return the phone or should I just bring it in? Has anyone had any experience with this one way or the other?

My Eris screen is completely cracked. I bought a new one now I'm trying to figure out how to replace it. I took off the back panel and noticed 4 screws in the corners of the phone. They seem to require a special kind of hex key allen wrench. Does anyone know if this is the first step in replacing my screen? If so where can I obtain these odd looking allen keys?
I have heard rumors of DIY videos on youtube, but havent been able to dig any up. Also, I've heard something about heating up the phones screen with a blow dryer and letting the glass get hot enough for the glue to soften...but im not about to try that without some serious second opinions.

My daughter dropped her new Eris and the screen cracked. We were supposed to have the insurance, but when Verizon switched her from her old phone to the Eris they removed the insurance even though we told them we wanted to keep it. Of course she dropped it 32 days after we got the phone so we can't add it back on.
We asked if we can add the insurance back since it was Verizon's fault and they just said nope, but they did apologize. Which is no help at all! Is there a way to replace the screen?

Just installed Mobile Defense. It's pretty cool, but I'm wondering if there are any better ones out there? I have a couple problems with it:You can remotely lock the phone, but when I do and it prompts me for the lock pattern I set up, I can just tap the screen or do any random pattern and it unlocks? I don't like having to do the pattern for everyday use.The tracking map is obviously very innacurate when GPS is turned off, but I don't like keeping it on because I feel like its a battery drainer. Anyone know of a way to remotely turn on GPS without being rooted?I would like to see both of these features and possibly something that can display my name and a contact number on the lock screen. Any ideas?

I know iphone has icam/Drop cam that can do this, but do the android phones have something similar where you can install cams in your house and get alerts on your phone with realtime footage, etc?I can totally relate near the end of the clip where they show a cam is pointed out in front of her yard where she can catch which dogs are dropping bombs on her lawn. I'd love to be able to do the same. Any ideas what are good cams/setup to achieve this?

So through a weird assortment of events i managed to crack the screen on my Eris. But this is the trippy part, I didnt break the glass but the touch sensors underneath. So now i am unable to use the menu or home buttons and the entire left part of my screen and more. I am unable to unlock my device in anyway that i know(menu button, the slider). Is there any other way to unlock it? I now have 11 unread texts and 4 voicemails that I desperately want to view. Oh and I know some of you won't be happy about what I'm about to say but.... I took the leap to the moto droid. I had the chance to get it on a 1 year because I didnt get insurance and I went for it. I will really miss my Eris but the keyboard lag was just killing me.

My work has free Wifi available for patients and whoever but you must first sign in on a main page it redirects to if your not already. Here to sign in you must accept a security certificate to be able to do this. It worked on my Droid the first day I did this and now I cannot get it to work, says it cannot redirect with no connection. Now this has happened before with my laptop and I just remove the certificate and it gets a new one and off I go. My question is where can I find these so I can delete it on the droid?

I remember all the ruckus about security concerns for jailbroken iPhones, and after talking to a friend with one of these devices, I began to wonder if there were any similar concerns I should have with a rooted Droid?
1) Is it more important now to have a "pattern-protected" lock screen?
2) Do I need to create a unique password for SU access?
3) Do I need to be more concerned malware or data swiping from market apps?
I love my recently rooted Droid but assume that "with great power, comes great responsibility." Is my assumption correct, or do I need not be concerned?

Okay so I just got my Eris and I love it except for one thing, I can't sync my exchange server because I get this warning:
Security Warning
There are problems with the security certificate for this site.
X: This certificate is not from a trusted authority
THEN it gives me three options Continue, View, Cancel
When I hit continue, it thinks for a minute and pops back up. View brings me to a viewing screen and then after you hit okay, back to the same warning screen and cancel. . . well cancels.

There's apps to make our phone a short-range metal detector, a radio, a gaming platform, an e-reader. you can control your computer from it, find it when its been lost or stolen, do just about everything except babysit, taxes (not sure about this one, actually), and tapdance.
but is there a biometric security app? the unlock pattern can be determined from the trail your finger leaves on the screen, so id love if it would only unlock when my fingerprint is recognized. is there an app for THAT?

I have my work IMAP account set up in the Android e-mail application. It works fine, but every mail I send from the phone shows up as unread in the Sent folder, so when I access the account with other e-mail applications I have all these unread messages in the Sent folder. I have never had any e-mail applications mark Sent mail unread. Is there a way to prevent the Android mail client from marking sent unread?
