View 1 RepliesOk i have an application with 2 different languages (english and german), how to change them from my application?
When i click the Language button im using intent to com.android.settings.LocalePicker and from there i select the language.
So instead of that i want to select English and German options from dialog box.
I know how to create the dialog box, but don't know how to change the locale.
Does anyone have experience with java voice recognition and localization?I'm thinking to build an android application, with some basic voice recognition options, but I want to implement localization for that based on some translate tool, maybe Google translate, and users can update his "dictionary" with new languages from remote dictionary...this project is in first phase, and I'm still brainstorming, so does anyone have some experience or is something like that even possible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedNot to bug you here, but when I was looking for translators for my application, I came across two sites that allow translators to bid on your work. Every language known, quality work, and very competitive pricing.

I have just been integrating the Skyhook Wireless technology into my Android application. This is the localization framework that gives a better localization by looking for wifi hotspots. As a result the position is better, at least indoors when it can find a hotspot. On the downside the library is around 300kb of size on the device. Now in Cupcake when I look at "Security & location" settings, there is an option named "Use wireless networks". This seems to be exactly the same as Skyhooks technology. However, I cant find any useful information about what kind of localization this is and weather it makes sense to drop the 300 kb library. Is Skyhook already integrated into Cupcake?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a set of text resources in different languages:
res/values-de/strings.xml
res/values-fr/strings.xml
res/values-ja/strings.xml
when a user runs our application, the Android system selects which resources to load, based on the device's locale.
So basically I want to add language option in my application and save user language preference, then load text resources based on user preference.
Is there any way to do this?
Are there any major localization related changes in Eclair, when compared to Donut? Does Android provide any tool(s) that would help developers translate the strings (may be to convert from xml to xliff format or some other format that translators generally use)? The 'Internationalization and Localization' part in developer.android.com still has a stub ("coming soon"). I'd really appreciate if someone could throw some light on this.

Are there any tools that go through the file taken from the xcode project and build the xml needed to use the strings in android? This tool should be easy to build but I appreciate any pointers to already working tools.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Android, capturing date from datepicker and storing as string in sqlite. Sorting by date doesn't work because they're strings (unless I'm doing it wrong.I've googled this issue for ~5 days, and it looks like there should be a way to capture the date from the date picker, convert it to a Long, store it in sqlite as a Long, select and sort on the Long date value, then convert the Long back to a "mm/dd/yyyy" string for display. I've tried various combinations of parse statements, Date, FormatDate, etc. with no luck at all.On activity start, get today's date and display it in button which calls the datepicker.Capture new date from datepicker (if one is entered), save it as a long to sqlite. On opening an activity showing a listview of records, select from sqlite with orderby on date (Long), convert Long to "mm/dd/yyyy" string for display in ListView.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have preferences where you can enable/disable what items will show up on the menu. There are 17 items. I made a string array in values/arrays.xml with titles for each of these 17 items.
I have preferences.xml which has the layout for my preferences file, and I would like to reference a single item from the string array to use as the title.
In the Android developer reference, I see how I can reference a single string with XML, but now how I can reference a string from an array resource in XML.
Can anybody give me some clue that how to convert binary string into a string(english). I have tried and googled so much but couldn't find an answer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a class that creates a view to gather data via a function getView() that provides a view with an EditText. This class has also has variable answer. When the user chances the EditText I want to store the content of the EditText in answer. If I would use an onKeyListener I fear that the answer will probably get stored before the last letter is entered. Is there a good way to handle this in the getView() function via some other listener?

View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have any idea how to find the n-th field (string) in a delimited string where the delimiters (separator) could be either a single char or several chars.and the syntax for user-defined function is FindNthField(string, separator, position)so position 3 would return three,The separator in use would actually be Chr(13).This has to run on Android and so should be efficient.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using a html parser called jsoap, to load and parse html files. The problem is that the webpage I'm scraping is encoded in ISO-8859-1 charset while Android is using UTF-8 encoding(?). This is results in some characters shows up as question marks. So now I guess I should convert the string to UTF-8 format. Now I have found this Class called CharsetEncoder in the Android SDK, which I guess could help me. But I can't figure out how to implement it in practice, so I wonder if could get som help with by a practical example.

I am going through the android hello world tutorial, and have been stuck when trying to create an XML UI. For some reason, even on a new program, in which I have made no changes to the default build, it gives the error java.lang.NullPointerException after every character I type. I can't figure out why it is doing this, as I am just trying to edit the text between the Text I want to set it to say something other than what is set by default. However, even with a fresh build, no changes, and I just try to change the text within the xml tags, it still gives the error. What do I need to do to allow it to let me type? I am using the eclips IDE and the android sdk. I was able to do the first part of the tutorial that doesn't involve XML.
